INFJ and the Entrepreneur | Career Advice and Lessons Learned for the Young INFJ 

While I understand the sentiment, I think the things he's pointing out as weaknesses are also strength. Being an INFJ means I'm quite adept at sales which ultimately adds more money into the business. By also being an INFJ you can understand what motivates your employees more than money, therefore saving the business money there while developing a strong and loyal team that is able to handle the day to day. While we do have a lot of weaknesses I think many of them can be overcome and ultimately become very tangible strengths.

My best advice for INFJ’s who want to be Entrepreneurs, start in a service job and go up the ladder... most likely you won’t like it but you will learn a lot and be able to start your own business if it comes down to it. If you start young you will definitely understand all the ins and outs of business.

Another life-changing reframe! No wonder I experienced a nervous breakdown after 20 years running a start-from-scratch business! I was fighting my INFJ natural qualities. In the end, I was forced into alignment. I can accept it now. I am NOT a business person! Holy cow. I almost 'shoulded' myself to death. I've been learning the traps of being an INFJ the hard way and hopefully now that I've found quality info on what's really happening, I can avoid others. It's such a relief to have them articulated. This is such a great video you hit this from so many angles I'm a 20 years old infj who's still struggling to figure things out. Right now i just can't decide what's career i will fully invest myself into but i really want to get out of this "limbo" state Please do a follow up video on how to overcome/deal with these issues. I enjoy the start up, but I don't really enjoy running the day to day. Tried to hire employees, to service my accounts but my clients said they would only continue to do business with me directly. So that turned in to my trap. Marty this is your best video to date. Thanks

Thank you SO very much for referring me to this video. Yes! You described my struggles so well. I'm a self employed artist. I make a great living from my artwork. Early on my family thought I'd never make a solid living in just doing my art. Now they see how I'm doing and don't bother me at all about it anymore. I have a roomate, she's pretty awesome and kinda "gets me" but I work at night that way I'm alone, not interrupted or distracted from my work. I market through social media which can be... ok, is extremely overwhelming. I have to deal with some pretty unsavory people. Some just use my art as a foot in the door (so to speak) acting like they want to purchase my work but then talk to me about whatever, which irritates the hell out of me. Talk if you want to talk but don't waste my time by wanting to just chat about nothing. I can pretty much tell right away if someone is going to do this. If I find myself having to deal with a nasty customer it affects my work, my mood and my desire to even do the job. I find myself struggling both mentally and emotionally after dealing with some people. Sometimes I'll just step away from talking to anyone for a few days. Literally. I won't answer my phone, texts, emails, or social media. I call it defunking. I literally feel like I have to pull myself back together and think positive, meditate, think positive, meditate and think positive! Then I make myself work. Which SUCKS because art should flow freely not be forced. NOW what I've done is shifted into doing my own thing. No loger taking in any new custom orders. Which has seriously ticked some people off but now my art sells so much nicer and faster when I can let it flow freely. It shows in my quality of work. Bonus... a lot less stress and anxiety in not having to deal with the public near as much. HOWEVER, I absolutely despise when it comes to advertising a piece that's for sale because I have to deal with so many people wanting to buy the piece. Then I get those that want one exactly like the one I had just sold and some even will push the issue so bad to where it just f's me up. I get so mad that they won't take no for an answer. Mad that I have to restrain from them knowing that I'm mad because I need to stay professional. I just have to "suck it up" and deal with it. I also get the ones that I personally think are narcs that will call me all kinds of names, insult my work, put me down because I've told them no or have refused to do a certain piece for them for like half the cost. These people affect me a lot. I can't just simply shake it off and can't just get it out of my head. Now don't get me wrong, I have a lot of customers that are so darn wonderful to work with. Many are repeat customers and collectors. These people always brighten up my day. I've been selling and making a living off my work for years now but still riding this crazy ass rollercoaster. I make a good living but how do I find balance? I absolutely love doing what I do but my mind and emotions are all over the board especially when it comes to each sale. The day I plan to advertise my anxiety goes through the roof. I literally have to brace myself, bite the bullet, take in a deep breath and do it. I do it because I have to. It's how I pay my bills. I want balance. I want to be able to set aside my emotions from affecting my work. I'm extremely grateful that I don't have any employees, although sometimes I wish I could but no one can do what I do and I don't trust anyone to do my sales for me. (Tried that once and got burned) I only have one vendor that I can just place my order via text. I feel like a hot mess inside but no one really knows it. I try not to let it show. Smile and wave, move forward is my motto. To sum it up.... I'm pretty much a hermit anymore, workaholic when I don't get emotionally overwhelmed and crash. It's just me, my dog and my roommate. My goal is to buy another house by 2021 so I've been working my ass off. I don't get out, I don't party, I even hate to go grocery shopping because I don't like being around a lot of people. I hate crowds and the nearest woods where I can find an escape away from people is over 2 hours away. My roommate thinks I need to meet someone and go out on a date. I cringe at the thought of dating anymore. I have goals and don't want any interference in reaching my goals. THEN here lately when I set aside time to go venture out I always end up working. Thinking days off = money lost. 😣 THEN I end up being upset at myself for not taking the day off. I've pretty much came to the conclusion that this is my norm.

dude...you crushed it!!! the start up to day2day example blew me away. it always happens to me. so much energy and joy in the creation but soon as the grind seems to manifest itself..i pull the rip cord to run away from the hamster wheel and find something else to start up. ughhhhh so annoying

Its almost like being a business owner came help mature an INFJ. There is alot of value here Marty. Business is a ruthless pre-established structure that we step into. We can't change it. If we do it right....it will change us 4 the better. I love how youvdid not talk about yourself or your own experiences with business in the video. You delivered the lesson. The value is in the lesson. Im not dismissing the human process that generated the lesson...but at the end of the day....the lesson is the only thing that is transferable. There was real power in this video. Im not saying that because im a business owner and an infj male. Im saying that as if im considering your channel as a business. The profit is "social".....meaning the positive transforming of others. It gets spent in the booming economy that is your comment section. The success of that economy is measured in healing. I suppose it's human to want all the things that happened to us to matter. Ill buy a laser printer for the office and replace it 2 years later. Just like that printer....we don't get hung up on the life and experiences. What the printer spits out is what matters for the business. There is no limit to the printers we can buy. What ever you have learned came out of your life experiences. Ill never tell my customer about what kind of printer I have in my office. Im not saying that you shouldn't talk about yourself anymore. I'm inviting you to re-look again at the value of the lessons.....they are scalable. Your life experiences are not scalable. They limit the profitability of your channel. If you deliver the lesson like you did in this video(and im trying to watch all your videos....BUT THAT IS NOT REQUIRED FOR ME TO COMMENT IN THIS VIDEO).....people will TRUST and already know that you were qualified to deliver it. Im excited for you....and I'm excited for me that I found this channel. By the way, I love the writing on the glass. I could write 1million more words on just that. Just you in a dark background spitting out ideas on glass.....im going stop now.....just keep doing it Marty....it matters.

the reality check I needed

Excellent video. Thank you Marty. In my business I found an extrovert and taught them to read and paid them 10% of net to bring in people. They stayed with me in a 2 man office for 20 yrs. My other need was to go to another city 4 days a week and sub-contract to other providers and have a co-operative situation. So M Tu in NYC and Wed-Fri Boston. And than Friday night and Saturday work in Hosipital as Radiographer. Work-a holic. But I was the main bread-winner. I found people who found me a confident that they could trust. I Tell them "that is a good question. I will answer when I am finished" Than I walk backwards toward the door and answer as they are exiting. Have more than one job and location. That will mix things up.My family worked at my office.

Another thing from my personal experience... I am a brilliant leader till i have to do the basic shit the day to day stuff. So a key to success is also in the people you choose to have in your team. And then how you manage them by learning to balance the personal life business life. It is possible. But it starts with knowing and accepting your own weaknesses. When you accept those they become areas of opportunity in which you can become successful and again level up. Wish i knew all this 10 years ago when I started my career.

Regarding criticism: I have found that rolling strait into solution oriented thinking helps tremendously. I also encourage the "complainer" to roll into solution suggestions based on their interpretation even if I don't agree that there is a problem. It's so much easier to manage.

What about having a business model that has a very high profit margin , you don't need capital at all , you can do it alone or with a very small team , less than 5 , I'm talking about service providing business ( coaching , online Coaching , personal training , translation , web development , graphic design ) selling your skill sets to a few number of clients and serving them and that's it .

Well, I am once again commenting on here but I just wanted to say thank you for addressing my question. After watching that video I am seriously reconsidering how I might be an INFJ but I genuinely had a few reasons for thinking I am. While I was reading Psychological Types I read the part that described Extraverted Feeling and the description of it felt like me. It says "her feelings harmonize with objective situations and general values" which in my life has been very recurring. Often in relationships, an event would happen that would make me feel sad or happy and I would feel like it was the right thing to feel in the objective situation. When others didn't react the same way or express the same feeling I would be stunned and entirely confused as to how they aren't feeling the same feeling as me. I am sure Fe is either my primary function or secondary function meaning I am a Feeler. You once mentioned in one of your videos that you have never said that any of what you perceive is the truth. When you said this it spoke out to me since my entire life I have never felt like anything is an entire truth but everyone has their own truths in sorts. Reading Psychological Types helped me understand that this was my subjective view. I am religious and I know not everyone believes and I know there are some that believe so much that they feel like it is an undeniable truth. I have always envied those who could fully immerse themselves into a religion or philosophy since no matter how much I read or think I can never feel like I have reached an ultimate undeniable truth. For this reason, I feel that I am an introvert which would mean I am IXFX. Between Judging and perceiving, I had to think about my way of being and how I like to get work done or do daily tasks. I myself as a person am not spontaneous and dislike disorder. I have a girlfriend who is an ENFP and I learned what it means to really be spontaneous which led to my belief that I am a Judging type. I am left with IXFJ which is where things got confusing for me. I read about both Si and Se along with Ne and Ni but the only functions I understood were the intuition functions. I tried to understand Ni through an image, when I think of Ni I think of a scanner. The scanner takes the papers representing information gained from other people or events and scans them but if you stuff too many papers into the scanner it will get stuck. Ni works in this way by taking objective data and forming its own simplified yet abstract version of the objective data turning it into subjective. A simpler way that you described it was that it connects the dots. I have heard many times and read from Psychological Types that the entire process of Ni is unconscious and involuntarily. It has happened to me many times that I will be thinking of something and know something is on my mind but not actually know what until I make sense of it. This could be something entirely different than Ni but I also go into exams with a general idea of a subject and just tend to understand it in a different way than usual. When I think about what I know on a certain subject I feel like I just know a really general idea of the subject but I would not even know where to begin if someone asked me to prove that I know a lot on the subject. For these reasons, I feel like I have Ni and could be an INFJ but I am open to being proven wrong. Another two things that made me believe I was an INFJ was the video you made of "#1 Way the INFJ Fails in Dating and Relationships?" This was one of the first videos I watched from your channel and I have never seen a more relatable video in my life. Two years ago I had a very close friendship for three years with someone who suffered from depression and hurt himself. My mindset for those years was egotistical at best, I believed I could fix him. One of the biggest mistakes I made was believing I could somehow fix him instead of insisting that he should go to a psychiatrist. When you brought up how INFJs are counselors and they just want to fix the other person I remembered my relationship with him and how all I wanted to do was to fix him. He was very apathetic with me and would constantly do things or say things that would make me feel miserable. I started getting feelings of depression as I saw him depressed and attempted to share his feeling. Around the end of our relationship, I would somehow remember every time he made me feel bad and every time I felt like he wasn't putting in as much effort as me. I deeply related to the video I mentioned earlier since that is exactly how my relationship with him ended. In the end, I felt like it was one-sided and I knew for a fact that I was the one in control of the relationship. I knew that the second I stopped putting in an effort the relationship would fall apart and I was right. I ended up blocking him on all social media and door-slamming him or ghosting him. For all these reasons I feel I am an INFJ, feel free to prove me wrong. I am more interested in what my real type is and this was all an attempt to type myself. Also about being a teacher, I used to go to a psychologist and I would tell him that I felt empty. Every time I told him that he always told me that if I wanted to fill that void I needed to go out and help people. Ever since then, I have been trying to think of ways to help people but I am not very knowledgeable in jobs in the psychological field which led to me thinking that the only two options I had were being a therapist or being a professor/teacher. I thought that teaching was a good way to help people that also didn't require me to listen to people's problems all day and try to help them because I have the feeling I would end up wanting to fix their problem entirely and spend too much of my energy thinking of solutions for my each and every patient which would be extremely draining. I changed my name so I no longer care if you mention it or not, thank you for not disclosing it in your video.

...I'm going to throw up now. Think about this for a year. Then listen to it again and pray that I have grown.

So for me I had to learn to take feedback and not see it as criticism that is bad. If any other young INFJ see this... we are very good with giving feedback to help make the world better and help others. If you place yourself in the mindset that if i learn to listen, i can grow from any critique good or bad, and see any feedback as an opportunity to grow and learn in order for you to help people better that helps. A lot. Add purpose to taking feedback and look for ways that anything anyone else says as a way to grow yourself to do what you do better that makes all the difference. I wish i knew this 10 years ago. Also believe in yourself but if someone gives you feedback it is NOT necessarily to shoot you down it is there as an opportunity for you to level up.

Hi Marty, this video is old but it is related to a question I had. This analysis on how an infj would do as an entrepreneur was really interesting and I personally don't think I'll be an entrepreneur but it was still intriguing regardless. I saw another comment that mentioned it but I also am not sure what career I would want to dedicate my life to and was wondering if there's a type of job or career that might be benefitting for an infj. I've been thinking of entering the psychological field because I find that understanding other people and why they act the way they do is interesting to me but even then I'm not sure if that's a good decision. You didn't go to high school so I'm assuming you haven't been to college but how do you think an infj would do as a professor or teacher? In the Carl Jung book named "Psychological Types," he specifically says "he is a poor teacher because all the time he is teaching his thought is occupied with the material itself and not with its presentation", meaning an infj would not make a good teacher as the infj has introverted thinking as a 3rd function. However, I am curious as to what it would be like if an infj were to become a teacher or professor. I of course have no way of knowing until I try but I would like to hear your insight on how an infj would do as a teacher/professor. It was my original plan to become a psychology professor until I came across Psychological Types.

A 32 y.o guy here, still searching for my own path, AND YOU STRUCK THE REALITY directly on me. And I'm really thank you that, it SO RELATE to my personality. Recently crying cz of all those tangled situations, it's hard to sort out every single one of them. I'm struggling with money, unable to live independently, it's so hard to save mone too, and my job right now as a swimming trainer, giving me repeated fungal infection inside my ears (swimmer's ears), it's really annoying, itchiness really distract my concentration, my jobs, etc. I even got sleep deprivation thanks to this. There's no way I can marry someone and live independently with such harsh reality I'm right now. My parent will hit retirement next year,...and here I'm, unable to take care of everything, crying so many times. Struggle with IBS, OCD, stress too at the same time. I feel like....everything's so suck... 😔 And yes, after working here and there under some companies, I really can't fit in all of them. Simply put, I'm not fit to work as an employee. The most I can be, is become a partner. No more than that. Even my previous workmate said directly to me, "Dude, you're more fit to become entrepreneur." while I wasn't even told him that I'm not fit to be an employee. He simply saw right through to me. But, with INFJ trait inside me.....what am I supposed to do with it ? 😩
