Inherited DNA differences are hugely important in shaping all aspects of who we are; including our weight, intelligence, and even the likelihood of getting divorced. From a policy perspective, how do we take into account genetic variations when designing our policy interventions? Robert Plomin has been at the forefront of this research for more than thirty years and published over 800 academic papers on behavioural genetics, as well as his recent book, Blueprint: How DNA Makes Us Who We Are. In this session, Robert introduces the genetics of who we are and presents new evidence that shows how genetic variation influences behavioural characteristics.

I appreciate this new breakthrough is being seen as an indicator of possibilities but not an excuse. I could imagine lawyers attempting to claim there client couldn't help themselves it was in their DNA. Also glad to see it could be used to give likelihoods of potential sickness or disease. So that with the awareness we can make deductive decisions based on the results. Example you are %28 higher risk for cardiovascular issue's. Well I would change my childs diet based upon that knowledge and inform them as they mature.

Plomin will be considered rather sort of Max Planck revolutionary in genetics (with his discovery of how highly Polygenic and Pleiotropic cognitive and not only genes are as well as "anormal is normal") rather than what people in the US and in ethnic minorities often associate with Genetics. There will be no "social inconvenience" everybody will be living the way he's best suited for. As GWAS database will expand the myth of any Eurasian cognitive superiority will also inevitably collapse. And if He Jiankui would not have been punish for nothing by Chinese Stasi we would be already in the middle of another revolution aiming at Engeneering (for health not cognitive abilities) kids of everyone not just that wealthiest peoples. That will be the way towards true equality when people will finally stop associate Genetics with previous century race based misuse which contained very little science then.

Plomin is a pioneer. Genetics are the future. Heterogenous societies will avoid it due to its social inconvenience

Ok. So one needs to use big data to study the cumulative combinatorial effects of a great many genetic combinations.
