I was there on the night and while I will say she sounded great I do have to add that the late Cara O'Sullivan RIP who represented Ireland that night was every bit as good on the night. I believe it was between the two of them in the final. What a night we had in St. David's Hall! For that matter all the finalists were excellent too. A night I will never forget.

I think that is what Handel heard in his mind as he composed this difficult piece! Inger is a glorious soprano. I recommend her Cleopatra in the Danish production of 'Giulio Cesare'.

Kathleen Battle with Marsalis puts this to shame. I think this soprano is way too 19th century operatic. She’s extremely (and unnecessarily) loud and sustained. Other instruments decay in final notes of phrases while the soprano just yells to the maximum duration of the note. Trumpet could be better in tune.

I completely concur, not to mention she rushes tempo so much on her runs that it messes up the orchestra a few times lol.

I believe in this interpretation the trumpet is not on par; it foes not feel at the same level as the soprano since she’s going over the top.

But working with her is much more enjoyable. Being Battle's colleague was a nightmare.

@@Feisenbach I have heard that KB could be “difficult.”
