Aldo is from rural Tennessee, so his accent is meant to be from there and be especially thick. Accents in general were also more extreme before the internet, because people learned how to talk only from their immediate family, neighbors, and friends. So Brad Pitt is going ham on it, and it's great.

Glad you survived Kemi 😅 This was the movie that introduced so many of us to the brilliant Christoph Waltz. His perfomance as Hans Landa is magnificent and it takes a lot of talent to make a character that evil so fun to watch. His sit down with Aldo and Utivich is really funny, with his giddiness over the possibilities laid before him bursting forth 😅 "Bingo! How fun!!!" That he wails as he is carved up in the finale is 🤌

I love this movie! It has arguably one of the most unexpected endings of all time.

Note: Before the war, Hans Landa was a policeman, a detective specialized in missing persons. That's why he was so good at his job.

a gritty and glorious movie, so many memorably characters and absolutely nerve wracking in places

14:00 The milk and the cream aren't kosher, Landa is using them to see how she reacts.

The slow fade from the colonel explaining the rules of the drinking game to Hugo envisioning being whipped (either as expression of what he's enduring or something he'd rather be doing) is one of the funniest sequences. Til Schwieger is relatively unheard of in America but he is fantastic. I love his scowl.

Top 5 all time favorite movies. Only QT or the Coens can combine humor and drama like they do. Love this movie.

Oscar winning performance by Christoph Waltz as one of the most terrifiing villains in movie history. You can feel the dangerous beast lurking beind his smile in every scene.

I have to agree with your comment that Maj Hellstrom, as sharp as he was, would have recognized Stiglitz in the cafe since he was so well known.

The King Kong moment I think was very intentional, seeing as how much the Nazis were inspired by what the Americans had done with mass deportations and chattel slavery

I see a lot of people faulting Shoshanna for the regret that she showed the man she shot. In reality, most people would probably feel the same. Probably the best explanation that I've seen of this in visual media is from the show Chernobyl: in the moment, you can't comprehend that you were capable of this act, and the fact that you were paralyzes you and compromises your sense of self. It isn't weakness to behave as she did, though it was a failure to consider her own vulnerability in the situation.

I thought it made her look mostly good even if the result was bad. It's easy to dehumanize people you don't interact with, but the reality is I think if a person has had mostly pleasant conversations with someone (even a Nazi) it's natural to think/hope there is some good in them. In fact I think even people who dealt with Nazi war criminals were at times unnerved how "ordinary" or "banal" they seemed. Maybe human empathy leads us astray at times, but I don't think of it as weak or foolish.

These are always my favorite reactions. All I need to do to know not to subscribe, or all I need to know to unsub, is to watch someone enjoy the torture scene at the end. So I skip right to it, watch you laugh and enjoy the whole thing, and then I'm like, well... dodged one there.

I wasn't the least bit concerned about them giving diplomatic immunity to Hans. Given what they gained from the transaction, his transgressions were nothing. Btw, blonde really works on you. Great look!

I think the story is interesting and it has great stuff, mostly the Shoshanna stuff but some of the German or Austrian actors are good too, but I can respect hating it. I know some feel it is, maybe not intentionally, justifying the torture of POWs. (I think his intent was likely to make us think about how even "good people" might be okay with torturing some POWs and what that says about us.) Still I think saying it's not worthy of her is overstepping somehow.

@@ThomasReeves-s7u My attitude on 'historic' movies, is that they're either incredibly informative, or misinformative.
@ThomasReeves-s7u

@@futuregenerationz In this case I think once we see Hitler get mowed down it becomes clear this isn't intended as actual history. I could see being annoyed by that, but if they had indicated it was "Alternate History" earlier the scene might not have meant as much. (I could maybe see giving slight hints earlier that the audience may not recognize as hints. Maybe a character listens to a new Bessie Smith song when in reality Bessie Smith died in 1937.)
