In this video, I, Dr. Josh Madsen, will be demonstrating and explaining primitive reflexes in adults. Our focus will be on a patient who has faced multiple traumatic brain injuries. However, it's important to note that these reflexes can resurface due to a variety of stressors.
To begin, we'll test the Moro Reflex, observing the patient's blinking response and startle reflex. We'll then move on to the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex, where the patient may experience balance issues and hyperextension during specific movements.
Next, we'll explore the standing asymmetrical tonic neck reflex and the symmetrical tonic neck reflex. This will involve observing the patient's arm and head movements in response to head rotations.
Additionally, we'll identify the presence of a spinal galant reflex, which can be observed when stroking the patient's back, causing her to curve towards the stimulated side.
Finally, I will conclude the video by examining the patient's ocular response during side-to-side head movements, allowing us to further understand the impact of these reflexes.
Overall, this video provides a visual demonstration of primitive reflexes in an adult who has a history of traumatic brain injuries. By showcasing these reflexes, I aim to increase awareness and understanding of their presence in adults and the potential factors that can contribute to their reemergence.

I used to be an OT until I had a rare Hypoxic-iscemic brain injury as well as several concussions since. I'm in poverty on ssdi with Parkinsonism, dystonia and a long list of problems. I can't find a therapist that does anything close to this or anything else covered by medicare/medicaid. I feel hopeless. Money buys health. I have nothing to live for. If I could only afford help, i could help others instead of wasting away😢

I stumbled on information about primitive reflexes only today. Commenters on the Harkla channel recommend yoga to integrate reflexes in children (5+) and adults. Perhaps with free online resources you'll be able to do your own therapy. I'm sorry you're struggling, but there is always hope.

I have all of those things but have now developed intense tremors and muscles spasms in my neck, back and tummy. I know it’s to do with my reflex’s, neuropathy, base of my brain and adrenalin. Something isn’t right but God only knows what. I think it’s an easy fix but it’s finding the right consultant. I swear it’s driving me insane now.ps. Brain scans were unremarkable.

Great to see someone specialize in this. If you test someone and they are positive with most reflexes from fear paralysis to Babinski do you start with the reflex that should integrate first and then go in that order? Do you integration with later reflexes even if prior reflexes haven't quite fully integrated?

as far as i understand it, this is just session 1 of multiple to train/stimulate the brain into using the correct reflex (or suppressing the reflex). so it's a temporary state in this video and would likely regress if the patient stopped treatment before it was fully resolved. there's nothing wrong with the body, it's the brain getting confused and using the wrong set of reflexes. he's just reminding the brain to use the other 1. you just have to keep reminding it until the underlying problem goes away (like inflammation) or it rebuilds the pathway to the correct reflexes with all the stimulation
@ayamesilver
@ayamesilver 16 часов назад
@@user-pj9vw8ic3vit's involuntary so you can't just choose to not follow the reflex. it bypasses the part of your brain that controls your conscious actions, so the signal is sent out before you even know it's been triggered, much less stop it. the best you can do is desensitize a reflex so it's more difficult to trigger, which is how people learn to not flinch at things. the only way this could be faked is if the patient didn't actually have the reflexes to begin with and is just pretending to have them. and would have to be a really good actor at that, because everything else points to this being a new patient (reserved body language, but not off put) that's at the center of attention. you can see the patient getting less reserved as time goes on: talking, making a joke, getting more comfortable around him/less "robotic" or stiff movements. ^ that stuff alone is difficult to fake, much less micro expressions and such i mean, I'm not sure what the lazer is about since you don't have photoreceptors in the back of your head (temperature or something similar?) but sensory feedback would be reasonable to expect if you're trying to stimulate parts of the brain through the nerves. it's just a sign saying "hey, pay attention to me!" and waiting for the brain to catch the hint as to what you want it to do. and he said, himself, that it's not an instant cure all. you have to work on it until your brain does it on it's own
