In my pov, it's kinda like she's the one pressured here (since takumi was able to caught up with them even at c-121) and she's losing focus and went too fast on the incoming corner
They explain it in the original Anime after the race. Takumi was good enough to mimic all of Mako's maneuvers, putting pressure on her, causing her to get reckless and spin out. She was way too caught up in the rear view mirror, if she stayed focused, she could have kept Takumi at bay the entire race, and then probably won once he was up front, after swapping places at the end of the pass.
