Eh not really, Ryosuke, Go, Keisuke, Shinji, and Takumi, all still use old cars from 80's to early 90's, wouldn't break time logic for having those cars on the show. The show has weird time travel where you see cars that are too early to be shown in the series for example some traffic cars or as you said, Kobayakawa's 2001 Evolution despite the show having been set in 1999 and the series ending in 2000 as Project D only lasts one year.

actually kinda sounds like the VQ though, specifically like the early Z33's on Best Motoring. go watch some of those clips, those early japanese Z33's sound nothing like the USDM 350Zs

@@FalbereChan I can confirm that the older VQs in the 350z is way different than the modern one we have now, the ones used in initial D are the older models with FnF has the newer model VQ sounds

Classic muscle cars (60s to 70s) _never_ did well in these kinds of environments, and the stock brakes being shit _is a known problem even with the base-trim versions of modern models._ They were built to provide high-end levels of straight-line performance for affordable prices and handling suffered as a result. They "dominated" back then simply because the tech to make a handling focused car was still extremely expensive at the time and early exotics and roadsters tended to be shitboxes when you actually tried to drive them. Of course, Japanese muscle cars (yes, they exist) like the Skyline 2000 H/T GT-R, the Mitsubishi Galant GTO and the Toyota Celica Supra (before the split) are a bit different _because_ they had to be built to handle mountain passes, as well as the maze-like road networks of Japanese cities. As for modern muscle cars, there's no point to that argument. The _modern_ Mustang GT350 is pretty much a track car, but it came out almost two DECADES after Nissan's S13 platform. Comparing a car that's probably older than you to a modern track-focused car never works out, the modern car will generally win out unless you're comparing a track-prepped econobox to a late 90s supercar or something similar. Also, minor correction, that's a SilEighty, not a 200SX. It's a _180SX_ with a Silvia front end. The 200SX model name specifically refers to the European domestic market version of the 180SX - same chassis, but with alterations to make it appeal to European consumers.

Usui Pass doesn't have many elevation changes, and Mako's Sil80 only has like 230 horsepower, but it is also pretty light, so im gonna assume its a combination of that + using the clutch to raise the revs to keep speed.

@@sevens12 you kidding, the animation and physics detail is no where near this in Fifth Stage.

i coudlnt really tell if fifth stage was a upgrade or downgrade from fourth stage, but the cars looked really good and detailed in both

@@HellcatMonkey Fifth Stage had more detailed and polished cars but maybe too much. The road seemed perfectly flat with no bumps or elevation changes. The animation was just as bad, seemed like the cars were sliding on an ice skating ring.
