To apply as a Gunner or Officer is my main choice at the moment; I have a degree and at twenty five I have some life experience under my belt; Its a big decision to make, so for now I'm training hard and researching, gathering all the information I can before I make the choice; Thanks for the video, wish me luck!

@DubzXD yes you would. In the RAF pilots are officers and thus have to pass initial officer training at Cranwell

you have to be able to swim 2 lengths and tread water for 3 ins and get out. If you're a weak swimmer i would advise getting some time in at the local pool as swimming in a coverall is much harder than in your shorts.

It's NOT the same as the ARMY, however it has changed: press ups: 19 Sit ups: 32 Run: 9.04 on the MSFT and you can check this at the following RAF website:

All the information you want is on the RAFs own website, no need to go to forums. A simple search would have answered your questions. It just shows a lack of initiative that you haven't done this already, something than an RAF Officer must have.

If you're asking these questions on youtube I really don't think you've put enough thought into this career path.

yes big balls is correct. Army is 44 in 2mins and 10:30 run for 1.5 mile. RAF is 11 in 2 minutes, its not a guess, its not about whether it is easy or not, that is the minimum requirement.

if you do cadets you are prepared for the drill and weapon handling. which is good practice and you would be ahead of the game ;)

all you said is correct but the air force requires more brains then physical endurance. the 8 weeks are to make sure you are fit enough for emergency. know in my case i went through 8 weeks of basic and 9 weeks of indocrination and even after that i had another year and a half ahead of me. the millitary traines those that need the training the most. *special ops Air Force* e flight 333.

Quite an insightful video, no one should be under any illusions as to how physically and mentally draining they will find IOT. I don't see the need for 'trolling' on such videos however, the recruitment process will weed-out those with potential and those without. If you need advice, get in touch with your local AFCO - don't expect much help on youtube, it generally isn't in the nature of the users on here. Best of luck.

My god, how old is this video? the class rooms are different, so are the rank slides for term 1. And we never do fire exercises on the base any more.

Yeah sure one of the only reasons RAF pilots were from wealthy families was because the cost of private flight training is very high but nowadays its possible and very common for people from low or average income families to join the RAF, you just have to be committed and work hard.

What's the definition of an 'officer'? How does an officer differ from an airman/woman? How is the training different? Any response would be much appreciated, thanks

Please don't call me a wuss or an idiot or anything, but I have three questions and Id be really greatful if someone could tell me the answers: Im hoping to aply for Aerospace battle management, however I had one single asthma inhaler perscribed to me when I was 14 (17 now), would they still let me in? 2. Is a ABM aircrew or groundcrew? 3. Is IOT a lot of peeing and pooping in bushes in a forrest?
@Hereharehere90
@Hereharehere90 9 лет назад
The inhaler is likely to cause you issues. It is ground crew. I am on IOT and haven't peed in a bush once.

Officers in a way are more intelligent (and most hold University degrees)with better leadership skills.....Officers are higher ranked millitary personnels such pilots...engineering officers while airmen/women are people like aircraft technicians with no university degree but some sort of qualification if that makes sense (they can however go up in rank but not as quick or as much as officers. hope that helps a bit

Have you done it?! unless you have dont think you can judge about slackers hopeless people! Get your facts straight first. The docs do SERE a short 10 week course, everyone else does the long 30 week course. Trust me... its not easy, tell that to the around 30% failure rate per course. :(
@callum1131
@callum1131 11 лет назад
How have I tried to change your mind? You can still go in as an officer but just make sure you know what you're getting yourself in for. It's a lot of hard work and you need to know the facts before you join, like i've said over and over. I'm not insulting you, merely stating observations about your comments

+Faizan Mahmood After IOT pilots do their EFT (Elementary Flight Training) Where they learn how to fly in a tutor plane, Once you have completed that you are streamed to your specific training So either Fighter plane, Multi engine (Herculie, C17 etc) or Helicopter.

@ArranRWilliamson
@ArranRWilliamson 9 лет назад
***** Thank you for the response. I was unsure, as I have found conflicting sources about the topic. 30 weeks for most officers and approx 11 weeks for 'professionally qualified' entrants, was what some sources have stated. This is why I asked if the initial training will be the same. I've still got a few years to figure it all out :)

Ok here we go again... I don't know why but many people think the corps and services of the armed forces are called Royal because they are better or something like that. No. It's much more practical: Those units were created with Royal warrant (the sovereign's consent) and they pledge allegiance to HM the Queen and her heirs and successors. Simple as that. Royal means belongs to the Monarchy, nothing more, nothing less.

Why do RAF officers need to be fit?!
@ameripenguin
@ameripenguin 13 лет назад
@Kampfer1445 you realized that the US Army does 10 plus ait. then the US Army does up to a yr of training before deploying. The difference is the British keep all the recruits together longer and the US military sends them to their unit to train more. Both are constantly training, but considering each's success in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US Army is obviously the best, followed by USMC, RMC, then British Army.

yeh yeh for Queen and country etc. I don't see you as a joke, I see you as naive and showing a lack of initiative. I commend you for wanting to join the armed forces, I can't think of a better career frankly but you need to seriously put some thought into your decision and look at the facts about what you need and how to get it before you make a rash decisions or any cliche remarks (too late).

Think about it. You want to be a Legal Officer. You're going to need a law degree, it's that simple. How did you not grasp that?! As you Logy, no you don't. A degree will mean that you graduate as a flying officer rather than a pilot officer.

That's real funny as we kicked their asses for years before the Americans joined the war. Plus all the Operatives who worked behind enemy lines for years unaided. Personally each country has their individual benefits within their soldiers ranks, it matters not what country they are from.

Uum... think you've been taking piss taking seriously. Have a word mate. And no. Those crabs that are not pilots do NOT mostly do as demanding work as the army. They do a job that is really quite different actually, as do the RN from the army. So don't try and equate everyone who wears a uniform, or you'll have to include MOD police and traffic wardens.

I've come to the same conclusion, only far to late. Good luck with whatever you're going to do, but make sure you research it thoroughly before you do. Don't join the RAF.
