The Voigtlander 35mm f1.7 and f2.0 are both exceptional lenses at a much lower weight. Something to consider maybe.

have the 40mm 1.2, very similar, think the same lens hood- if your gonna keep it get the hood-clicks twist on nice- i shoot my 40 on my m2, with a 6 stop ND- can get some 1.2 shots but hv to settle for some 1.4, f2- or f4

I’ve been debating buying an ND filter for it!

Maybe we could actually see what it looks like on a camera next time?

I have the 40 mm f /1,2 VM on my leica m type 246 i really like but honestly consider buying the f/1,4 SC vm why big heavy and very agressive focus throw. I do know the smaller version has the same focus throw but you have a finger tab. Makes it easier. But a big wish to voigtlander start making the focus throw a big longer and less agressive.

Two questions for you....does the fact that this will scale focus to .58 meter but the rangefinder only goes to .7 meter cause any issues for you of turning the barrel too far since you can no longer see it register on the rangefinder patch? Also did you find the extra half stop f1.2 vs. f1.4 worth it over say the 35mm f1.4 Classic ? Thanks

The first ones never really caused me an issue. The patch stops moving once you go past the 0.7 metre point so it’s pretty obvious in use when you’ve gone to far. And therefore I find easy to avoid I also rarely find myself shooting near the 0.7m range, it’s also quite nice if you are using a digital body to have the option of shooting a little closer using live view I’ve never used the classic, however personally right now with my photography and my preferences I’d prefer the classic. The half stop gain isn’t to me worth all the extra size and heft, it’s a heavy lens, and f1.2 the depth of field is tiny! It’s easier to use on a digital body with focus peaking

how about shooting subjects with F1.2

A real bargain 'old school' optic that has fantastic imaging; the Canon 35mm f/2 LTM using the LTM to M adapter. No other optic will give you such a Compactness to Cost to Performance ratio... The 'heavyweight' Noton f/1.2 should only be purchased if Ultra low-light is your main emphasis. The modern mirrorless digital sensors perform like never before, especially with their low light performance, so a high speed lens isn't as important as they used to be...

Have you tried pairing you m240 with the Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 SC?

No I haven’t! But I do like the idea of it’s far smaller profile. I thought I’d find myself using f1.2 a lot, but I rarely use it!

You need a lens hood for this lens. Get a third party one, the original optional Voigtländer one is overpriced
