Don’t expect many Americans to appreciate the magnitude of SUKRITHAM ( massive good deeds in births past) that results in this splendid initiation in to the MAHA MANTRA.
I hear that after Bhaktivedenta left his body, there was much in fighting within the movement and literally"too many cooks, spoiling the broth as a power struggle ensued!Surely one succesxor could have been chosen by ac Bhaktivedenta!?
When Srila Prabhupad was asked this question, his reply was that acharya is not appointed, he manifests. He said all his disciples who would follow him sincerely are his successors. Even Srila Bhaktisiddhant Thakur, his spiritual master never appointed any successor. For decades before Srila Prabhupada came to the United States, so-called svamis and yogis had been coming here from India, supposedly to teach Vedic philosophy and religion. Yet they created not a single devotee of Krsna. Like Srila Prabhupada, these “gurus” also introduced India’s greatest book of knowledge, the Bhagavad-gita. But unlike Srila Prabhupada, they could not present it purely, as it is, because they were not unalloyed devotees of the Supreme Lord, Sri Krsna, the speaker of the Bhagavad-gita. Lord Caitanya, the inspiration for the present-day Krsna consciousness movement, predicted that the chanting of the holy names of Krsna would spread to every town and village in the world. But only since Srila Prabhupada arrived in America in 1965 has this prediction been fulfilled. Only by Srila Prabhupada’s compassion, intelligence, and complete surrender to the will of Krsna were Westerners able to receive the rare gift of Krsna consciousness. Thus Srila Prabhupada’s contribution, proves that he was empowered by God to spread love of God all over the world. Such a unique world-teacher is not to be replaced. Śrila Prabhupada gave complete arrangement for pushing forward the worldwide Krsna consciousness movement. As early as 1970, Srila Prabhupada created a Governing Body Commission (GBC), which now consists of twenty-four senior devotees, all personally selected by His Divine Grace to supervise ISKCON’s missionary activities in various zones around the world. These GBC devotees have been trained (some of them for ten or eleven years) under Srila Prabhupada’s direct guidance. For years now they have been conducting all the spiritual management of this mission within their assigned zones, and now they will continue to do so. The GBC meets yearly in India, and together its members plan how to execute the will of His Divine Grace. Srila Prabhupada selected eleven senior disciples to act as initiating gurus who could accept disciples after his disappearance. In this way he insured the continuation of the parampara Śrila Prabhupad said that he would never die, he would live forever in his books. He has given all the transcendental knowledge required to be successful in spiritual life in his books. This is a rumour that serious fighting was going on in the movement and power struggle endued thereafter. The instructions and teachings of Srila Prabhupad were based on Guru sadhu and sastra and were perfect, his disciples wanted to continue the movement as per his guidance and he had imprinted in the minds of his disciples that are the servants of the Lord not the svamis or god themselves. The question of properitership was not in their mind as Lord Krishna clearly says in Bhagvad Gita that He is the only Supreme Proprietor and every one else is his servant. About 50 years have passed since Srila Prabhupad disappeared from our mortal vision and still his mission is going on successfully . His disciples and grand disciples are working tirelessly, preaching all over the world the message of Bhagvad Gita and Srimad Bhagvatam bringing thousands and thousands of people in Krishna consciousness, showing them the path back to Godhead where they can serve the Lord eternally.
