Question about the quality smoke on the kamado vs workhorse. I noticed you had to get rid of yours because you were moving. How much different would you describe flavor taste between the both? What you do now vs when you had workhorse. Is it worth the hassle of being outside for 12-13 long cooks.. wood supply etc specially when doing long cooks like brisket or pork butt
The smoke profile is definitely different when comparing the two. I’ve now owned 2 of these Akorn kamados and 2 Weber Smokey Mountain 18.5s. I would describe the smoke profile of the Workhorse to be cleaner and more subtle in comparison. These kamado or bullet style smokers have a distinct flavor from the recirculating smoke and minimal airflow. The difference to me is very noticeable and I personally prefer the flavor from the Workhorse hands down. In a perfect world I’d own both a Workhorse pit and either a kamado or pellet grill. The ease of use while producing decent bbq is super appealing with the kamados, and the vast majority of people I’ve cooked for simply cannot tell the difference. So in short I’d say these kamado style cookers will get you 80% there which is still often better than most restaurants. But that final 20% requires the work as you mentioned but that labor of love is worth it. My .02!
