Hey everyone welcome to the channel!

A lot has happened since I started the channel so much of the info in my intro video needs updating. For one, our family recently moved to Colorado so no we're now doing life and making BBQ at a mile high. I'm not officially pastoring at the moment, but currently work to help a Christian non-profit do some behind the scenes work as they serve pastors and their families through counseling and mentoring.

I've been smoking on modified electrics, kettles, pellets, bullets, drums and offsets. I love the learning process and sharing the final product with others (except when the cooks go bad of course). In addition to the process and craft of making good BBQ, I also enjoy exploring new tools and gadgets too. I post videos about BBQ and share some product reviews every now and then. Thanks for stopping by!

Typhur says there’s a range of 135ft from the probe to the base unit through obstructions. 400ft without obstructions. In my experience the base intermittently lose connection with the probes at around 30ft so there’s no real benefit for the display on the base if I need to depend on the app on my phone.

Tallow when you wrap. Also using Turkey roasters to hold at 140-150* is a game changer.
@waymor2460
@waymor2460 21 день назад
The reported Typhur range is false. This from their own support after I bought their product. “Verify Proximity Between Base and Probe: Ensure that the distance between the base and the probe is not too far. If the distance exceeds 10 meters/32 feet, the probe and base may repeatedly attempt to connect, leading to intermittent disconnection issues.” Hardly 400’
@HuSmokin

I definitely don’t keep my base farther than 30 feet from the probes for a consistent connection as well.

I own all 3, and I'll never buy Meater again. I've had 7 of their products, and they're consistently junk. I despise Tappeque, Fireboard, and Chef IQ fir the same reasons. I love my ThermoPro and Typhur. Thermoworks is king of wired setups, and I can't wait for Thermoworks and ThermoPro to release wifi wireless probes.

Sorry it’s been awhile since I ran this initial test. I think it was around 20 hours before the battery was getting low. There have been several firmware updates since and I’ve been able to monitor a brisket cook and rest totaling 16-20 hours without needing to charge.

The Meater also does a great job estimating remaining time. All the units I’ve tested however aren’t the best when it comes to estimating longer low and slow cooks like brisket and pork shoulder.

Hi, I think I see an exhaust deflector inside the pit on the outlet. if I did how do you find they work?
@HuSmokin
@HuSmokin 2 месяца назад
To do it again, I’d only get the heat deflector/tuning plate for the bottom and leave the exhaust/smoke stack alone. The airflow is already limited and by adding both, my airflow suffered a lot the smoke profile was noticeably more dirty.

I've only had the TP620 about a week, however I am cooking on the Blackstone nightly. So far I am having mixed results. It does help me make a better steak/chicken, however I find myself watching and waiting for the final temp after inserting the thermometer. The claim is 2-3 seconds, but I believe it is more like 6 or 8. I know, still better than old school analog, however I lose confidence since I can watch it climb until it finally stops 6-8 seconds later, even longer. I do like the large digital reader and it works well until you get that angle where reflection voids it. Seems like an unreasonable complaint on the surface, but when you are trying to position thermometer and holding for 5 or more seconds over a 36" searing hot griddle, it can be annoying. I paid $29, so while I think it is par for the course at that price point, the normal price of $60 is not even close. So, while I probably will keep it, I imagine my frustration will force me to search for a better primary. So, save money where it makes sense; I am not sure this is it... BTW, I expected a nice carrying case, but they no longer include it, at least on the Amazon model.

Have you done any testing of the accuracy of the ambient temp sensors? To me that’s just as important as the internal temp accuracy. The built in sensor on my pellet smoker is not close to accurate so I rely on a secondary temp probe which is currently wired. Thanks for the review.

Very even-handed review. I just got mine last week. I use a FireBoard pit controller and food probe combo which I feel is without equal but, it isn't wireless. So, I added the Typhur to my kit. Some additional info- Their are 5 sensors inside the stem plus the ambient. In the app you can see each one on the "advanced" screen. Second, the app will give you a.predicted time to reach the target temps.. very useful. Finally, all 6 sensors update several times per second! Just waiting for Wear OS support so I can get notifications on my watch.

I use the TP-19 and think it works just fine. Stepping up into using any of these from guessing or relying on time, etc is going to make a quality difference in your food. And the $30 Thermopro is a huge step up from my old analog 'instant' reads. I like Themopro enough that I have two of the ones w/ a brain box, and cabled probe(s). Still, I'm a maniac and will probably get a Thermoworks down the road, but not priority. Oh.....I also have one of those IR temp guns.....those things are useful.

I picked up the Typhur Sync a month or so ago - have to save it works great - on the App - are you able to put a range of temps for the ambient temp (like you can do with the MEATER) so that it will notify you if your temp goes below or above that range ? Thank you
@HuSmokin
@HuSmokin 6 месяцев назад
Congrats! Glad you’re still enjoying yours. To answer your question, absolutely. From the app you’ll want to set up “alerts” by selecting the probe then press the bell icon toward the bottom right. Press the “+” icon and you’ll see options to set up ambient, internal, and general time alarms. If you’re using both probes, you’ll need to do this for each. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the review…a few things, one is connectivity for wireless 5ghz? It appears their is a safety line to insert probe how does that compare to other probes? Thickness of probe seems s little on the thick side for delicate slices…no direct grill temperature mentioned….so will have to do some more analysis paralysis..lol
@HuSmokin
@HuSmokin 8 месяцев назад
Good questions. The Sync only uses 2.4ghz. Thankfully it hasn’t been finicky with our mesh system at home. Regarding the safety line, all of the probes I’ve used, including the new MEATER 2 Plus have a safety notch or minimum insertion requirement. And yes the thickness of all of the probes are thicker than the traditional wired ones. The MEATER 2 Plus is definitely the thinnest probe and helps alleviate some of these issues.
