INKSCAPE: EASY TRACE Method (Bezier Tool)

Inkscape's Bezier tool is a great resource for making high-quality tracings of pictures. However, the "curve" feature can be frustrating (especially for new Inkscape users). I am a big fan of easy hacks-in this video, I go through the EASY method of using the Bezier tool to create vector tracings. Using this method, you can EASILY make some really nice (accurate) tracings.
Inkscape is a free graphics design software solution that is completely free (it is similar to Affinity Designer or Adobe Illustrator). You can download your copy at inkscape.org.

I knew there had to be a easier way to draw curves. Thanks for the smooth pace of your video. Other tutorials go to fast or correct mistakes while instructing. I got confused.

I've used this method for a couple of years in my dinking around Inkscape. It is just so much easier than clicking and dragging handles. Plus, there are now some great path effects in Inkscape that will help refine curves.

Curses, I was hoping you were going to point us to a tool where the program would try to match the background curves using the points that you'd placed. Nice tip anyway. A couple in return: - you can simply right click to close your polygon; you don't need to click the original point. - the stroke can be toggled on and off in the "stroke paint" tab; you don't need to set the width to zero in the "stroke style" tab.

I know now why ipencil was created... to avoid all these clicking and drawing with a small box/mouse.... genuis! This is why procreate/ipad/ipencil is so successful! But procreate is not vectorized... stupidity.

Ok now that where on this subject. Is it possible to do something like to make your own design with something like this? In other words can you manipulate/move features from one super hero to the next to make a completely new superhero design. Without have to design from the ground up? Not sure if that understandable!

Absolutely! Use straight lines to get the rough shape you want and bend the path the way Crafty Stax showed to get curves. If you need more refined curves after that, you can either edit the node with the handles, add more nodes, or try using the path effects editor to give smoother curves at a node.

Question Can .tif's be imported, traced, and saved?

Yes Inkscape can import a ton of different image files (If you go to File > Import and then use the drop down menu for file types, the tif files are in there - as are many many others).

Another great tutorial. Can you tell us how to create shadows or a color gradient inside a drawing? Also, I've tried to draw using layers, but it seems to be a little complicated. Many thanks!

Thanks for this great trick. Trying to get an (almost) perfect curve at the first shot was always a PITA for me. The bezier tool is very powerful but remembiring all of the necessary key combinations to get the curve you want is an inferno!

same principle applies with freehand lines (button P) on more difficult areas. You can play with handles and/or deletion with nodes and dealing with corners or rounding a spot
