I don't comment on anything. Im conserved like that. But here I see a guy teaching us literally how you would teach something to someone with absolute zero background in it. No crappy long openers or agitating background music. No overwhelming starters showoffs. Just showing us what this software can do. Im watching this series and learning a lot about different tools available in the software. In the meanwhile I try to imagine their potential. I know I've got a long way to go but with this series, I am hopeful that I can create something sensible and start putting pennies in my pocket which have been empty for a long time now. I wish I could give back in some way for proving us with in legendary source for free. But as of now please accept my humble appreciation
I gotta say, you are one of the best teachers I've watched so far especially for beginners because everyone else moved too fast or they acted like we knew where to go and how to do it and not explaining anything

These are freaking incredible!! Inkscape was so intimidating I didn't think I would ever be able to figure it out. You are explaining it so well anyone can understand. I am finally getting somewhere with these tutorials!
I've played with this software at a very basic level a year ago achieving very primitive results. When someone explains the basics like you, before even going under the hood, it really begins to open up possibilities on what can be achieved. Thank you!
I love these videos. Us Mac users definitely miss out on all the keyboard trickery. The same commands don’t work for us. For now, anybody wondering, If you can have your text tool activated, than highlight your word (or half a sentence etc...) and play around with the top right of the screen. Mine has 5 options when the text command is being used (and not the cursor looking tool to select things). But basically there is where you can play with spacing etc... My 5 windows on the almost top right have menus that can drop down to make the spacing bigger or smaller etc...doesn’t seem as simple but with practice we can learn it I am sure...

Having watched some of these videos, it’s given me the confidence and ability to recreate a small low-res wallpaper I like and make it a crisp 1200x1600 and it looks fab! It wasn’t hard to do, but I wouldn’t have had an idea where to start before! I’m going to be watching a lot of your videos!
I have a silhouette craft cutter and Inkscape is way more robust. I will definitely be doing my designing in Inkscape from now. I deal with so much text.

9:07 It takes more than clicking the blue circle to remove the binding to the curved text ! You have to click on the curved text and then go to Path > Object To Path

I'm just getting started with InkScape and just from this one video I'm seeing how powerful it is. I was especially impressed with the text following the curve of the elipse in just a couple of clicks. If it was in this video I missed it, but I'm needing to increase the text border size by a couple of pixels. I'm sure it can do it; I just didn't see it. This video really go me interested in use InkScape more. The quality of the vector graphics is so much better than raster, especially for text, and I need smoother, but sharper lines for book cover designs.
Thanks for your great videos . . . I am going through them one by one, like a college class . . . so to speak. Great Stuff!!! But, I do have a question that perhaps you can answer for me. I am using Windows 10. And, I am using version 1.3.2 of Inkscape. I was doing the step--along with you--where you hold done the ALT-Shift-< . . . and the ALT-Shift-> . . . to compress or expand the text. It worked as it should for a short time. Then, I got some weird pop-up in the lower right-hand corner of my screen. I did not see what it said . . . then, it disappeared . . . immediately this feature stopped working. Now, when I do this, it simply types the < or > characters. Did Windows somehow block my ALT feature, do you think??? And, is there a way to undo this so that I can do this function moving forward??? Thanks for your help.

I cannot select individual letters and position them with the alt key/ arrow keys. Is it done differently on a MacBook? This is the first function I’ve seen on TJFree that has not worked or been similar enough for me to figure out…
Thank you for all your instructions on Inkscape. It's been very helpful. Question; Why is it that my fonts all come out gray and fat? No matter what font I use they stay gray and are almost unreadable. I'm sure it's a setting I'm missing but I've watched several videos, tried help pages, and not finding anything.
for anyone having trouble not being able to move the letters with alt. when u click on the text tool the 'A' just click on the canvas do not click and drag and create a box. then u will be able to move the text with alt
I am just learning inkscape..Question... After I finished with the fill and stroke part.. I added text but it was clear text... no color. I did figure out how to get my gradient to fill it in, however I am a bit confused as to why my text did not fill in automatically. I just downloaded Inkscape a few days ago, (8-6-22). Why did I have to drag my text box to include the new text?? Did I miss something??
I'm not able to change the allignment of letters in single word like you did with 'TJFree' by holding selecting a single alphabet with shift and then holding alt key and pressing up or down arrow key. Kindly help me out.
Haven't messed around with text manipulation in a while and I just tried to simply center a paragraph similar to how center in Word works. How do you do that in newer version of inkscape? I don't see that entire tool bar under the font family as shown in the video at all. Nevermind, I found the option on the long horizontal toolbar across the top. That was driving me crazy like finding waldo and waldo ain't there.
QUESTION: I couldn't get the letter spacing shortcut (shift + alt) to work for me. I figured out how to do it using the + - options from the toolbar but wondering what I'm doing wrong that the keyboard shortcut wouldn't work. Thank you so much for making easy to follow tutorials! When I try to move a subset of letters in the text box up or down using the "alt" key, nothing happens. Is there some other way to move these letters besides the alt key?
You cannot use a text box with vertical kerning. You have to just click where you want to type and then type - adjust. A text box will grey out the options to Vertically Kern the text.
one thing that you did not include in the Text lesson was to click filter and show the very extensive choices available to apply effects to the font ...but thanks for what you did show ...
Once you have changed the aspect ratio by resizing you are screwed since there is no option to revert that even if you set a new font size, it will just keep that screwed aspect ratio
Thank you for this. I just have a question: I've had a bit of trouble with writing words with foreign characters. In particular, I've designed a logo using Japanese Katakana: クラッシュ (translation: Crash, written as "Kurasshu"), but whenever I type it out, the text won't show up at all and even when I somehow got it to work, it won't let me change the font at all. Do you know why this might be the case (note, I've never experienced this problem in Illustrator while I was learning the program in college)?
My Text and Font menu is much different than in your RU-vid Lesson 6. I cannot find the left, right, center text justifications icons. They don't exist! Appreciate your help.

Good question. If you recently changed the text to a path, you can control z or edit undo to get it back, but other than that, no, paths cannot be reconverted back into text or objects. Another option is to look into an OCR tool that will detect the characters on an image and turn them into text.
I noticed the text does not keep the options settings like the objects do. In other words if you have a certain fill and click another area the fill will be reset to standard. am I wrong?

I'm adding text to an object as a layer & grouping them to upload to a website. When I export the connected image to my files, it's fine, but when I upload to site, text is missing. What am I not doing that's causing this? Thanks.

I've downloaded a SVG file but need to clean up the font, rounding text letters, eliminating breaks etc. I've tried in the node tool but cant seem to get it. (FYI I'm using an IMack)
Having an issue occassionaly. When I choose a shape such as elipse, rectangle, 3D image for some reason instead of getting the actual shape I get a dotted line with circle and square nodes on. This is happening now and again and I don't know what causes this to happen - nor how to stop it. I have to exit the page and re-start to get it back to the normal default.....? help would be appreciated.
Is there any way to reverse the text? I'm trying to put text on the edge of a circle for a coin design, but the letters curve the wrong way and everything I've tried has the text coming out mirrored or backward.

However, I have been following you as I watch your video and somehow when increasing or decreasing the space between letters in a line by holding down both alt & shift at the same time and hitting + or -, the letters are not reacting at all. There is an icon "AA" in the upper taskbar where you can change space between characters. You select your text or your texbox and then you press + or - next to the icon to increase or decrease the space.
Looks easy when you’re doing it but all I get is keyboard shortcuts that change my toolbar after selecting text option. I’m unable to type but the shortcuts work great. I also tried the f8 key. Apparently I cannot type text once I’ve drawn an ellipse. Is there a way to add text to a drawing??
Can you tell me how i can add a bullet point? I only saw adding an extension but idk how to do so, the version I saw was basically just code, not a download. All im trying to do is add a bullet in my text so I can space words without using a simple dash " - "

Hi, I can't figure out how that letter moving around works and also how you can space out words, maybe one of my keys are not set up properly as I followed the instructions, it highlights the letter but when I try to move them around using arrows, nothing happens. How the whole function calls so I can go to command settings and maybe check there. Thanks
Hi! Thank you very much for great tutorials! I subscribed to your channel. I've a few questions. I can't move around the individual letters, doesn't work for me. When I put an exclamation mark at the end of my text, it goes to the front of the text. When I work with text and click on text tool it opens up a text toolbar, but it's not like yours in the video. There're no justification buttons for text in my version of Inkscape. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Why do my text prints so fuzzy (pixellated) while the screen image is sharp? When I copy and save as a GDI metafile in LibreOffice, the print is perfect - even at 5 pt.
I have a question for you, specifically about arcing your text. You said select text, shift select shape , but you're on a mac and the shortcut must not be the same for me. Can you help me figure out what the name of the function you're shortcutting is? Thank you.
Good question. It may be different on Mac, but shift just lets you add an additional object to the selection. You could also just left click and hold and capture both objects inside a selection box, to make them both be selected at the same time.
