I'll put wedge down on the patch getting even better results if placed at the focal point of the dish, where the LNB used to live. -point the patch at the reflector/dish then once a signal is acquired, adjust focal distance(between the patch & dish) to achieve max signal over/to noise... :) Nice vid.

Excellent video.... I too am in UK & I'm currently just into Inmarsat stuff.... built an outernet patch antenna with aluminium & copper.. Just getting the SDR# plugin to work..... 👍👌

@@TechMindsOfficial, I would really like that video on the plugin. What SNR do you get with the active patch antenna on the dish, say on 1.541.500? I'm using a home brew helical in the feedpoint of a 100cm dish witch will be re-activated as soon as my RTL-TCP is running again with a Airspy one sitting @ the dish to avoid signal loss over a 40 meter RG6 coax. Nice video!

Had some excellent results using the patch antenna and Multipsk (EGC-Professional Mode) easily displaying messages. Frequency used was around 1537.100 Bought the Tekmanoid STD-C Decoder but have not had any messages displaying even though the signal and quality are very good. Anyway its only been a few days so will keep playing with the software. Fascinating subject this L band, cant wait to see you experiment with a dish.

Thanks for an informative video. I did a similar test of the SDR-Kits L-band patch antenns with JAERO receiving both the 25.5 East satellite, and the 54 West one. As well as testing from outside, I managed to decode the 600 & 1200 bps channels from inside the loft, with the patch stuck to a steel beam! The video of that is on my channel. Did you ever do further experiments with your dish, and finding the focal point? I managed to get a few extra dB using a Sky mini dish and rotating the patch by 90 degrees.

Nice one, put your SDR up next to the antenna the current long coax line will be massively attenuating the signal then you can listen to 10k BW, Another cool vid would be the SAR stuff on 1544?

I think your patch antenna would be better at the focus of the dish to utilise the gain of the dish. How you have it set up the dish is just a piece of metal that would have no gain. put it at the focus where the LNB would normally go would give you considerable gain.

Do you realize you could make money remotely setting up computers for people to do this ? I am totally lost when you ran over the loading of software and selecting boxes but would gladly pay for someone like you to do this.

Hi and thanks for all the great Videos. I tried out the Antenna just on the Balconyrail (Location is Austria, SDR is a RSP1A) and was successful with the reception of the ACARS Channels using JAERO. Sadly i cant receive the C-Channel on 1.541.449. I cant even SEE on the Waterfall that there is a Transponder. I guess the Balconyrail isnt enough. What do you think ???

Did you try rotating the antenna to see if the signal peaked? Or maybe try something larger for a ground plane, like an old dish or metal biscuit tin lid

Hello, Thank you for this video to discover the range of possibilities with Inmarsat. I start to work well with a helix 12 tours made home + LNA NOOELEC, but with which INMARSAT was made your video? I am in the south east of France and connected on the 2F2, I still do not decode everything ....

I’m in the UK and pretty much pointed west I think. Just move the antenna around until you get the strongest signal

The patch used in this video has an LNA and filter all built in :) So it’s a great price. If you check my latest video you’ll see how I constructed an even better antenna, but does require an LNA. Thanks for watching! 👍

@@TechMindsOfficial The patch antenna is RHCP when you place it at the focal point of the dish it will not be as good as you expect. The reason is when a RHCP signal hits the dish surface and is reflected the signal become LHCP. So while there maybe some gain it will be nowhere near as it should be possible 20-30dB down as the patch isnt being illuminated correctly. hth Mark

I don't understand why it should be a dish? I mean the antenna is not in the focus point of the dish, so i asume simple Metal Plate will have the same effect?

Haha no offence taken at all my friend. :) It’s funny because when I started using it I hadn’t heard it anywhere before and then I saw someone else use it. They also watched my videos and stopped using it, but as you say it is licence free. Although, I have paid for the license now because some company was trying to put copyright claims on my videos, which we all know what that means. So now I purchased license :) I’m hoping to have a make over of intro, artwork and music as some point in the near future, but I have had so many people say how much they like the intro music that I dare not change it just yet. that patch antenna stuck to the dish looks ridiculous. what is the point of having the dish then? Obviously the focal point of the dish is some distance away and that's where the receiving (or transmitting) antenna is supposed to sit in order to achieve the required gain. This thing shown here is nothing more than mounting a patch close to a ground plane

Exactly! If you didnt realise the whole point of this video was to show how well you can receive inmarsat just stuck to a drain pipe, I didnt even show in the video how well it works when placed in the middle of the dish. You are correct though, in theory it should work better with the patch antenna facing towards the dish at the correct focal point. This is something I will try shortly. :-)
