Or at least 5 toughness. Their shoulders look like the heavier style that comes with t5 for regular primaris like heavy intercessors, eradicators, and captains in gravis armor. Plus they have a some extra armor plates on their forearms and hips.

I’d say give them the Ap and a 2+ save show they are wearing some of the best armor in the chapter despite the milllenia passing since they are Hersey era dark angels heck if they tossed in toughness 5 they would be excellent even at that cost with our Grandmaster Azarael

There is little to no consistency between the stats of a weapon and it's visuals, unfortunately.

Def don’t need all that. The ap needs a bump but making them just flat superior to the bladeguard ain’t it. They really should try to be a closer analogue to the black Templars sword brethren. The sword brethren are like deadlier but less defensive versions of bladeguard, which is what I feel should fit for the companions as well. Maybe not as killy as the sword brethren, but should be better at dealing with character units. If you want a unit that has all the best statistics possible for elite infantry, just play custodes lol.

Just remember, the more you cry about things you think should happen while having no agency to actually enact change fill me with joy and pride. Keep crying about things subverting your expectations. It's gold and reddit loves this.

I’d just make them general purpose bodyguards. Give them 5+ FNP as long as a character is attached to the unit, and change their weapon to A4/Ws3+/S6/Ap-1/D2/Heavy, Dev Wounds

Hell no. I hate what they are doing making stuff hordey but 9th was the WORST 40k since 6th. The end was just so atrocious. Outside of being a competitive scene player running weird souped lists it was horrible at the end the codex creep was the worst ever witnessed in warhammer with the ignoring invuns and healing rules etc

It's terrible for multiple reasons and ultimately sucks for both standard marines and divergent chapters. For divergent chapters it's because of what you mentioned. It makes it less likely for GW to pay proper attention to the codex unique detachments and their internal balancing. It also makes them less uniqur. It's worse for regular marines though, since now their detachments not only have to be balanced around their own roster and interactions, but also other ones. If it's broken for some other chapter, you end up with a no-win situation. It's extremely poor game design. This is true for most souping rules, as it creates problems for the faction that the unit it originally belongs to (being nerfed cause it's problematic in another faction), but also for the faction that soups it in, as core issues sometimes require you doing so (which then aren't addressed). Perhaps it would be fine if Gladius was generically allowed for all divergent chapters, but it would be much healthier for everyone involved if all the other detachments in codex space marines were limited to that codex.

DW knights, sword s6 ap 2 d1 / Mace s6 ap 1 d 2 New great sword unit - s6 ap 1 d2... wat? Like, WHAT?! Who the fuck approved this? On pure visuals alone, hell drop the attacks, go 3 attacks at s6 ap 2 d2 and I'm so much more pleased then this bullshit. It's not even internally consistent in the application of its rules to weapon types. What's next, our big Plasma Cannon is ap -0 gives target cover? Like holy fuck, I'm not usually a get mad at rules guy, but I've played this game as a dark angels player for 22 years, and I'm looking at switching to guard.

Good. Why should Divergent Chapters be superior in every way? They get the most attention, have the most unique datasheets, their own Codices etc. The rest of us aren't even subfactions anymore, but simply the inspiration for a detachment that anyone can play as.

Second of all direct your frustration at GW. None of the divergent chapter players wanted your own flavor to evaporate either. I get they wanted to pair thing down, fine but this is lazy what they did to us and the more codex compliant chapters. We all lost character.

If they are 105pts then they’re basically the same per model as Terminators, for a unit with AP-1 weapons and no invuln save… brilliant stuff from GW

ap1 is the WORST ap value to have in 10th my dude. You're paying points for an AP value that gets immediately invalidated by AOC, which is absolutely everywhere. AP1 on shooting is even worse because with the prevalence of cover it essentially creates the same issue just without your opponent having to play the strat

Steel is not strong boy, the will and hand the wield it, that is true strength.

They could have made them glass cannon character buses that would use transport but with 3-6 unit size, Impulsor is not really good for them.

To be a glass cannon they would need to be able to deal damage first. Im skeptical of their profile. Only hitting on a 3+ feels bad, then there's the loss of AP@@SZUPERhun

@@jonathanmalone1943 Yeah it's a shame. Both compaions and knights are a joke in terms of damage and they are overcosted. Though cost can change but even if they are cheaper, they can't be cheap enough to compensate for their low damage.

The only hope is to have good strategems, that the points costs of competitor units go up (ie bladeguard), and perhaps even that some of the character buffs have changed for the better@@SZUPERhun

Consider for the same investment Azzy could be leading Sternguard who bring crazy dakka with his sustained 1 and the deathwing vow bonuses

I think they shouldnt buff the factions that get codexes, they should correct balance issues and offer more unique playstyles. the nerfs are heavy handed in this case but saying all factions that get codexes should be better just leads to imbalance in the game and is why 9th felt so cluttered in the end

@@martinfllan9163 They should buff that are weak to have more competent playstyles and buff alternatives to must takes (or nerf the must takes if they really are that strong). They just kept the index rules that everyone knew most of them are bad. They should have changed the index detachment and some of the characters rule wise. Now they will stay weak for the whole edition and they might get points reductions but nothing else.

After 9th editions powercreep, seems like 10th codexes tend to not be straight buffs, more like side grades or nerfs. Which is quite funny how everyone didn't initially believe GW promise of getting rid of rules bloat which actually happened, then expected cycle codex powerup is gone as well.

9th edition after AoO was my favorite state of the game. The nerfing when codexes come out just needs some changes to your outlook. I can’t wait for the eldar codex because I don’t play them! But -1ap sword is so bad

@@SZUPERhunthis codex was gonna have been written and likely finalised before the index came out, too late to course correct now… And they’ve already shown they are willing to do major changes to detachments outside of codexes, case and point death guard actually getting a detachment ability. No reason to assume they’ll suffer for the whole edition yet.

These guys are no longer Fallen, they've all been personally judged and found redeemed by the Lion himself. But that doesn't mean the rest of the DA chapter has to like them. The Fallen angels who drank the Chaos kool-aid are still Chaos Space Marines.

They were purged by the Inquisition for being heretics.

The problem is that apart from everyone and his dog fielding 6 of them + Azzy, there is no point in using them. So unless you WANT to reduce your army's power...
