Quick thoughts and opinions on the new Innocn 27M2V 4K 160Hz MINI LED gaming monitor.
This thing is insane. Easily the best 27” gaming monitor I’ve ever used! This thing has the best of both worlds, in local dimming it can create real blacks for content/media consumption, while having great colors, text clarity, and fast IPS for gaming. Truly a jack of all trades. I love this thing so far.
Overall Specs:
4K 160Hz 1ms IPS with 1152 dimming zones with Mini LED backlight.
HDR1000 Certification
Variable Refresh Rate and Local Dimming work in tandem at 144Hz (I overclocked to 150Hz)

Quick Update: I still have the Innocn 27M2V!! 6 months in and I still love this monitor. Unfortunately last month I discovered two pencil sized red areas on an all black display. You had to sort of look for them, and it had to be all black, but by accident I found them while loading into the BIOS menu. Otherwise they did not show, and were gone with local dimming and HDR. I immediately reached out to Innocn for RMA. This process was not entirely painless TBH. It took almost 3 weeks of emails and finally a phone call to get them to issue my FedEx label, after initially responding immediately. It felt like they are a fairly large company and somewhat disorganized as far as service goes. Everyone was friendly/nice and response were usually within a day or 2 max. But I kept getting bounced around, or told they were following up or my case was being processed. Eventually I got fed up, I called them and talked to their service department which is in Austin Texas. Then I was given a FedEx label to send the old unit back. They actually cross shipped me and brand new monitor from Amazon stock after I shipped mine out. I assume they waited for that to happen before shipping mine. Oddly enough it arrived to my doorstep with no prior notice or shipment tracking, so I was confused when I found it on my front porch. Either way getting a brand new unit with the newest firmware was a nice treat for warranty service! The new monitor is very improved in terms of firmware. Local dimming is greatly improved, they must have changed the algorithm because it no longer completely ruins the image for desktop use, and is completely usable for 24/7 desktop. Some items in the OSD are different or new menus. Most importantly HDR is greatly improved in terms of turning it ON/Off. Now it will no longer revert to 30% brightness and forget your preset image setting. It will revert to your image setting and brightness. You can also toggle HDR On/Off with windows hotkeys or in display settings, so no longer need to enter OSD after initial setup. All in all, an awesome monitor, made even better! I'll try and do an updated video soon!

Thank you for the update, I was thinking of getting one of these for productivity and my OLED for gaming. I was just wondering, how's the calibration with local dimming on because I play to run that 24/7. I'm mostly interested in stuff like the lagom black level test, is there any black crush?

I'm glad i waited for you to turn on local dimming because the ips glow at the start of the video looked horrible. Seeing the local dimming turn on is a definite wow factor. I think I've found a monitor worth selling my original 1440p g7 for.

Keep in mind I recommend local dimming only for content consumption/media/and gaming. It shines in games that don't support HDR, it's incredible the difference it makes vs that terrible IPS glow in games. Night and day. But for regular desktop use, browsing, etc. It can makes colors/text look off. You can clean this up with some of the OSD controls and adjustments, but still not perfect IMO. Alternatively you can use HDR 100% of the time on desktop to get same effect, but HDR has less color volume like most HDR monitors. That said, this monitor is freaking amazing! I've had it a couple months now and I absolutely love it.

Hey Talon! Thanks for this review of the INNOCN 27M2V, I just finished watching a review by Lau Kin Lam, but I don't speak Chinese, so while searching for a video in English, yours popped up! From what I've learned this afternoon about this monitor the "Gravity Switch/Sensor" isn't for your monitor falling off of your desk, but rather that though it's an accelerometer, it's a sensor that auto rotates between "Landscape" mode and "Portrait" mode. Gotta scoot, thanks again!

Thanks for the review! This review convinced me to pick one up. I do have a question though. What do you have your contrast and shadow balance set at? My only issue is the very noticeable blooming/glow on the bottom corners and cannot figure out "ideal" settings for the life of me lol. I tried using the same brightness and RGB settings as you, but the whites seem to be pretty yellowed out. Regardless of all of that, love this monitor.

@erikhendrickson59
@erikhendrickson59 Год назад
I've had this display for about 2 days now and the contrast is completely insane compared to my AW2721D IPS panel. There is a SSLLIIIGGGHHHTTT bit blooming visible when I play Diablo 2 Resurrected, for example if I'm running through a pitch-dark dungeon lit by torches. However, there is also a "Backlight Contrast" option in the OSD that completely eliminated the haloing, but also reduces the contrast -- even at just 15% however it is still leaps above IPS. In games that don't feature super-bright highlights against absolutely pitch-black backgrounds I've not seen any blooming in games at which point you can really crank up the Backlight Contrast. Third party calibration report are showing the panel at around 7,500-10,000:1 contrast ratio. This puts it roughly TEN TIMES the contrast of good IPS panels and 3-4 times the contrast of VA panels. Remember that this panel is reportedly a QD-IPS, and the color calibration seems to back that up, reporting over 98% coverage of sRGB, DCI-P3 and over 90% coverage of the AdobeRGB color gamuts. Also, this display is INSANELY BRIGHT! I keep my AW IPS @ 85%/65% brightness during daytime/nighttime use. This 27M2V I keep st just 55% and 35% brightness respectively. 85% brightness is absolutely BLINDING on this thing and the HDR looks *_better than my C1 OLED,_* because that high brightness really makes colors POP in a way I've never really seen before.
@TalonsTech
@TalonsTech Год назад
I also have a AW2721D boxed up and deciding what to do with it now that I no longer need/want it. It's crazy how much better this thing looks in games compared to that very high refresh rate IPS. I'm not a hugely competitive gamer anymore and I would rather have resolution, contrast, and overall a vastly superior image over sweaty refresh rates and washed out image. I also have a C1 55" in the living room and it blows me away how much brighter this thing looks in HDR vs an OLED. The OLED is always perfect with no bloom , but except for the limited cases where I can get this thing to bloom I consider this an equal HDR experience on my PC monitor. I really love this monitor. :) It's no wonder why it sold out on Amazon.

I’ve never experienced any black screens at all. That sounds faulty or a bad HDMI cable. Ensure you’re using a high quality HDMI 2.1 cable. If using a bad cable, black screens are a potential. If that doesn’t fix it, then I would return the monitor.

Have you had any issues turning on Local dimming when playing games with HDR,VRR or Gsync in combination. I have a 4090 as well. Right now I’m on an Asus PG27uq. Similar monitor but with a lot less dimming zones(352) and no HDMI 2.1. After watching your video; I think I’m gonna buy one. I just wanna make sure everything works correctly. Like my Asus is an HDR Ultimate. Meaning I can run Gsync and HDR at the same time with no issues(As I’m sure, you already know being a HDR monitor fanatic like me. Lol)That’s kind of why I’m asking. I didn’t see that this monitor has the ultimate badging. I’m pretty sure it’s just compatible. Anyway, great video I really wanted to see this thing in action and you posted it so, thanks again! Much appreciated…..ps. I bought the Asus 32UQX about a year ago on sale for $2700 and it runs everything all at once too; but then again the flawed masterpiece that it is does not support HDMI 2.1 Now I’m wanting to put my PS five on a monitor as well, so this kind of seems like the perfect match. I guess in summary; my main question is I just wanna make sure that when I turn Gsync on and have HDR running at the same time(hopefully supported)that it works fine and that the local Dimming does not freak out. Subscribed!
@TalonsTech
@TalonsTech Год назад
Hey so hopefully I an answer your question clearly. You can run HDR/Local Dimming/G-Sync Compatible all at once on the DP 1.4 with DSC. As I said in the video VRR limits Nvidia to 144Hz but not AMD? It's such an odd thing. Interestingly you can actually use HDMI 2.1 and get 4K 144Hz and G-Sync as well! This monitor supports G-Sync over HDMI which I find odd and has to be one of the first. Now officially this monitor is not certified by Nvidia, but I have had 0 issues with G-Sync or VRR flicker in SDR or HDR. So far I love the monitor, despite it's odd quicky menu at times. It's picture quality is pretty unrivaled at this price point, nothing better for the $$$$ IMO. One draw back I have found is there is some pixel overshoot at lower FPS, it's small but a keen eye can notice it. Thats because it does not have real GSYNC and therefore no variable overdrive. This can be fixed with "normal" overdrive mode, but I find I'm usually far above 60fps anyways, it was something I found in testing when pushing 8K. I have 2 monitors that are G-Sync Ultimate and old school GSync on 1440p TN, and I wish more monitors had the real deal module inside but it seems they are becoming more rare and kinda overpriced.

I still use my Asus PG27uq(module ) and I also have Asus PG32UQX 1400 nit (Module)they are both flawed masterpieces because of the lack of HDMI 2.1 but that again we’re talking 2018 for the 27 2020 for the 32. 14:00 I'm looking at it from an LG 42" C2 TV and the blacks do look black with my OLED. I'm thinking about getting one of those as long as I can get inky blacks with local diming. I use my 42" TV as a PC monitor and for watching TV shows, movies, and videos. My TV shows 1,332 hours given that I mostly use it about 15 hours a day. A 27" would be a great size for me, but I'll miss out on 42" for watching movies where top and bottom black bars simply do not exist. Of course, as much as I want to go with a 27" 4K monitor, I'm kind of hesitant when buying this monitor for dark room performance alone. Beats saving hundreds of dollars over a Samsung Odyssey Neo G8. I seriously cannot stand backlight when it comes to watching movies with a 27" 4K monitor. Hopefully there will be monitors with IPS Black with local dimming that would surpass even this monitor's contrast ratio so that backlight bleeding is a thing of the past.

The issue with the 32" version is not the quality of the picture, which is identical, but the fact that the IPS panel is different and has a much higher response time. @@Tyler3x With Nvidia, no. Nvidia is limited to 144Hz at 4K with VRR ENABLED. AMD cards for some reason can do 160hz VRR. Makes no sense as they’re both using DP 1.4 with DSC. My best guess is it’s some sort of Nvidia tax they don’t want it pay?

Have you actually been able to watch Netflix 4K HDR on PC with this monitor? I have a Cooler Master GP27U and It acts like its not HDCP 2.2 compliant, and only streams in 1080p SDR. But if I hook my Xbox One X up to it, it streams Netflix 4K HDR no problem

@Talon's Tech did you end up checking this? I have a samsung qn90a hooked up to my PC and Netflix always streams to it in 1080P SDR too.

That 1440p LG OLED has way more problems than it's worth in my opinion.

OLED is garbage and should be avoided. Burn-in, bad text quality, and too dim.
