In this video I review a more heavy-duty microphone arm stand that I use when recording training and RU-vid videos. Links and more details below. Shown is the 19" version. Also, note that they make a smaller version which you should be able to select prior to adding it to the Amazon cart if you use the link below.

🔗 The microphone used at the beginning of this video: Heil Sound PR-40 (Dynamic Studio Recording Microphone): amzn.to/2ALLJzT
== Details about this particular Mic Arm Stand==
⦿ Spring built-in balance system looks more upscale and professional than others who are exposed to the outside.
⦿ The bearing capacity of the microphone arm stand has been improved significantly to hold up to 4.4 lbs.
⦿ The length of the single scissor microphone arm stand is 19 inches which could be rotated 360 degrees with a maximum reach of 38 inches horizontally and 37 inches vertically.
⦿ The square tube with 0.53 inches is a better material than the square pipe with the normal size of 0.39 inches.
⦿ The sturdy microphone arm stand with better compatibility even without hanging any heavy weights could be balanced at any position within adjustable range and will not bounce up.
⦿ It is suitable for both heavy-duty microphones and light microphones.

Hello @pronster1 great question and I'm glad someone asked about this. Amazingly the arm feels like it did the day I bought it. Hardly any difference in resistance and capability. And, I'm.a heavy user too. I reposition the arm several times a day and work with it nearly every day as well. It's a champ! Use the link under the video if you can! Thanks and best of luck!

Howdy. I also bought the larger version, and have been happy with it when using both my Heil PR-40 previously and my current device (the Shure MV-7). I found the arms were too stiff to permit easy readjustment, but a moment with a screwdriver took acre of that. The only fault I found was that the fit into the clamp was too loose to suit me. I make a shim of sheet metal to fill the gap. Decent product.
@MeTechie
@MeTechie 2 года назад
Hello @Ken Jones - thanks for the input here and advice about the adjustment with a screwdriver. So far, the arm has lastest really well. It has gotten a "little" looser over time since the first day I bought it but it still provides more than adequate resistance and support to the Heil PR-40. I move it several times a day - absolutely every day since the day I purchased it which is now over a year and a half ago. I hear good things about the Shure mics. I still love the Heil - and it's hard these days to find one in gold so I'll likely be buried with this one as I don't see it ever failing so long as I treat it well. Thanks for stopping by!

You needed to tighten the bolts on the old stand. Not the thumb screw, but the actual bolts going through it usually 2 in each area that it can adjust. Once you do that the stand will stay where you put it. My problem is the actual table clamp it gets loose and when you tighten it down it bends the metal piece on the bottom.
@MeTechie
@MeTechie 3 года назад
Let's Play... Ah yes, I'm not sure why I didn't think to go the extra mile on this potential fix. That would have likely solved the one issue. I also had the situation of the bent metal at the base which was the other reason for moving forward with a fix for me. And yes, I seem to recall that the weak metal at the bottom wasn't standing the test of time. Luckily, I've had zero issues with the new stand base as it's made from what seems like thicker/better materials all around. Thanks for your comment and suggestion. For some, a simple "tightening" of the arms as you mentioned may in fact do the trick for them without needing a replacement stand right away.

Two things I need to know, does this come with the thread adapter for larger mics? and will it be any good for holding the Aston Spirit mic?
@MeTechie
@MeTechie 3 года назад
@Kerri Powles. Great questions. It does NOT come with the thread adapter. It accommodates the 5/8" size only (as shipped). The stand claims to support 4.4 lbs as a max weight which sounds like it would be no problem there. According to this video, the mic itself, as well as the optional holder it comes with both accommodate 5/8": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w9QaJfP8sbU.html. Hey there! Can you replace that final metal piece with the 5/8 with the one from your cheap arm which got 3/8 or is it mounted in a different way? Would need an arm for a camera and would definitely prefer to not have additional adapters to not losen the adapter when turning the camera for example.
@MeTechie
@MeTechie 3 года назад
Hello @Kordanor - thanks for your question. So I just took mine apart and I have good news and bad news. The good news is that technically speaking, it looks like the small arm where the mic attaches can in fact be removed with a simple knob/screw that you loosen and take apart. In other words, there is nothing permanent about where the small arm adapter connects to the stand. The bad news is that when I went to apply the other adapter from my original arm, the arm didn't fit into the stand. The length of the arm relative to the groove didn't enable the housing for it to snuggly connect.

@@MeTechie Oh, thanks a ton! Didn't expect an answer that detailed! :) At least the "mechanic" which holds the little "arm" seems to be somewhat solid and easy to handle (thanks for showing!) so it might be a possibility to work around that. Obviously an easy way out could be either a 3D printer (to make a custom holder) or a way to make some custom metal part. Not an easy solution and not accessible to everyone, but I might give it a shot. Thanks again! :)

@MeTechie
@MeTechie 3 года назад
Yes, you should be able to use it with just about any mic. It comes with a 5/8" screw size and I've read that some Rhode mics come with the other size of 3/8". If the Podmic comes with a 3/8", then you may need to also purchase a 3/8" Male to 5/8" Female mic screw adapter. The stand can support up to 4.4 lbs and the Podmic is 2.07 lbs so I assume you'll be fine there too. Good Luck!

Hey there. So I had a look at mic stand (LogiLink AA0127). I like the look of it and it has some nice features. *Pros for the LogiLInk* A. I like the modern look B. I like that the joints appear adjustable (where you can tighten them up and perhaps even lock them?) C. Clip-on cable clips to organize cables. I really like this feature. D. 360° rotating arm, with a rotary knob for flexible angle adjustment and alignment I don't own one so I can't speak from direct experience. I know the cost is a little more for the LogiLink but it may be worth it. I can't speak for how heavy duty it is. But overall, it looks like a good mic stand and a worthy consideration.

I was watching this for the stand but once the unboxing starts I hear background noise that reminds be if my core issue. Just want to know which mic did you use for the later half of the video as the starting is quite clean audio. Maybe I can try a better mic as I have Shure mv5 still I get background noise while I don't have any sound proofing yet in my room.
@MeTechie
@MeTechie 3 года назад
Hi @F K Tech - so, the sound you hear during the unbox and review is just the "camera mic" which in this case I think was a Cannon M-50. So, nothing fancy but really just a camera Mic. And for videos like this, the last thing in the world you want to use is the built-in camera mic if possible. And what you are hearing is not so much the background noise, but the background echo/reverb/ambiance of the room. You're hearing the sound reflect off the walls in the room and from the floor. Technically I should have been using either a headset mic for this video. That would enable me the following advantages: 1) I could move my head all around without the sound fading in and out. 2) The headset mic has built-in noise cancellation. 3) With the headset mic close to the mouth, you lose a bit of the room "ambiance" which most consider a very good thing (higher quality with less room ambiance). Now with that said, while using a headset mic on video, you might feel like you are now a "gamer" or an NFL football coach or announcer, Some people have a real issue with this "look" while presenting because to be frank, it doesn't look as natural as a talking head without the headset. But I tell you, it gets the job done FAR BETTER than any other solution (my 2 cents) when it comes to the best audio solution under the conditions I've outlined above. The headset I use now also has a noise-canceling mic with headphones which I also need when playing music along with the training: (affiliate link): amzn.to/38392q9. Keep in mind that the headset requires an audio interface/mixing board for it to work! It's NOT a USB style mic so beware of that. Now, the main mic I use (non-headset mic) that you saw at the beginning of the video is a Heil Mic which is perfect for broadcasting. This Mic is a favorite of Leo Laporte (The Tech Guy). Here is a link to that one too (affiliate link): amzn.to/2ALLJzT. Like the headset mic I use, this mic also requires an XLR input for it to work (it's a non USB mic). You could literally spend 20 hours researching mics and still end up not knowing what the heck is going on or which one to choose. I think you have to pick a mic that suits the style of videos you want to make. The problem is that the world is filled with too many choices (a good problem to have I guess). But a problem none the less. Luckily, there are a lot of videos comparing one mic to another on RU-vid and for every person you ask "which mic is the best for this and that" - you'll get a different answer from each person. So, it comes down to what resonates with you. You also have to decide if you want your mic visible or not while you're filming. This is also a choice and with that choice comes a different set of options too. Hope that helps get you started and good luck!

did you get the small one or the big one
@MeTechie
@MeTechie 3 года назад
@Shawn Herron - Great question and I regret not specifying that in the original video. It was the *large* arm. FYI There are times where I find the long arm a bit too long, so plan accordingly. I got the long arm because I have a stand-up desk and I also swing it over to the keyboards without remounting it. So because I have so many positions and not all of them are close to where I mounted it, I needed the extra length. If however, you find that you are going to be in a single position and you can mount it fairly close to where you might be using it, the small arm could do the trick.

@MeTechie
@MeTechie 2 года назад
Hello! Wow, that is a heavy mic! I know it easily supports my mic at 13.4 oz which is 0.3798836 kg. My assumption would be that it should support a 1 KG mic with no problem. I have to physically apply a fair amount of pressure to move the arm up or down. I think you'll find it will work well for you. Make sure you plan to mount it to something sturdy and fairly thick. That is an important part of the equation here with a mic that heavy and for an arm like this that is fairly stiff compared to others. If you are purchasing from Amazon, I have a link in the description. Good luck and report back if you move forward.

Hey Troy. After a couple of months, I think it's still doing very well and it has easily maintained its sturdiness for sure. I have learned that there are still springs inside the metal arms so if you bump the stand, you'll hear that through the mic. But I don't know of any way around this. I suppose a shock absorber on the mic would help. But in the end, that aspect doesn't get in the way of my recordings and I try to avoid bumping the stand like you would with any other mic stand situation.
