I agree with Janice, the remote was an amazing innovation for the TV. It's also interesting how fast some innovations were phased out (3DTV) compared to other features.

Great topic- not one i think of regularly but truly revolutionary in even my lifetime. One of best memes I’ve seen is about kids these days never knowing the adrenaline of running to the fridge and bathroom during a commercial break while one of your siblings yells “IT’S ON!!” while you sprint back to the room and leap over the back of the couch like an Olympic hurdler

Interesting video. Television has evolved alot over time. The advent of ott platforms has provided huge scope of advancement for not only television technology but also content creation. The world feels more connected now.

Zenith was a throwback! My parent's first television was that brand. It also came with a remote.

I watch so much tv but know so little about its history. Thank you for making this video to help change that!

The best invention yet was the remote as I am old enough that I had to turn the dial to change the channel for my parents. Definitely the remote.... I still recall the day we got one :)

It is fascinating how we often regress back to black and white television because of its advantages in cinematography. Facial expressions pop, lighting is more dynamic, and there is a certain disjointed mystery that you cannot capture with modern techniques (these can be uncanny at times!). Classic films such as 'Psycho' and 'Ikiru' pave the path for cinema as a whole, leading to genius modern derivatives such as 'The Lighthouse.' It certainly speaks to our subjective human comprehension of art, and how technology acts more like a paintbrush in the hands of the artist, i.e., an option, rather than a necessary and inevitable, non-negotiable strategy for success.

I liked Pinaz's comment. It will be extremely interesting to see where the future of viewing experiences will take us. Especially after having watched the Apple Vision Pro video in class

Would be interesting to see where mixed reality (specifically, thinking of the new Apple Vision Pro) would take televisions or viewing experiences overall in the future among other things

It is interesting to me that the latest innovations in TV have not been about the display or encoding of video, but content delivery and user experience. While things like 8K TVs and 3D TVs have been developed, they aren't that popular as the "standard" HD or 4K TVs are seen as "good enough" for most people. I wonder if the next innovation in TV will be VR/AR like the Apple Vision system, or maybe even something else like Neuralink. I can imagine the day when video is streamed directly from Netflix into the brain, skipping the display entirely.

Part of me says it will be VR, but the other part says that's not as comfortable or as shareable of an experience as TV. At some point, I'm sure those issues will be addressed!
