I’ve had a Solectrac e25 compact tractor running in Wisconsin weather since December, and its run great so far - including plowing snow in -10oF weather. You know, when you run one, after a while you don’t really notice anymore - it’s just a really quiet tractor. (Although I do love the quiet - no hearing protection!!)I have a hobby farm, so it’s perfect for me. I’m told it will go 6 hr, but I’ve never had the battery run down to less than 60%, so range has been a non-issue for me. I just do whatever project I’ve got for the day, plug it in to a wall outlet overnight, and the next day it’s fully charged. It’s nice to just plug it in, and not have to worry about getting fuel out to the farm. No oil changes, either. No spooking the horses. You can do inside work with the doors closed. It’s got lots of torque all the way from 0 rpm, so it’s great for plowing. Lithium-iron-phosphate batteries are a proven technology. So, I really like it. All of the concerns about electrics that I’ve seen have been non-issues for me. Hats-off to John Deere for putting electric out there as an option - American innovation. I just wish they would move faster . . .
Great post Chit. I've been following the Solectrac since they first came out with the e25. I agree, progress seems incredibly slow considering battery powered fork lifts have been around for decades.
I gotta get to one of these shows... lol. Actually, given my current financial condition, I should probably stay away. Really good stuff Brock - thanks for sharing!
Kioti is making bobcats tractors until they have facilities up and running so I'm sure they have a mutual sharing of design factory space for their skid Loaders. Probably uses kubota engines like bobcat
Aa long as Bad Boy wants to sell tractors I'm sure nothing will change. Making tractors for others is nothing new for TYM as they already manufacture all RK tractors and some Mahindra tractors.
Could you just imagine if all that electric equipment was plugged in charging lol it might look like Clark Griswolds Christmas lights lol. Interesting stuff tho. I think it should be an option not the power choice of the future. Everything has its place and I think the Army saying " you can add too but not take away " is valid point for auto and equipment industry.
Electric tractors are not for me but I can see them for some. They are coming that’s for sure and see more and more. Brook good video and just subscribed and looking forward to more of your content. Missed you at NFMS this year maybe see you there in February
It’s probable the main market for electric tractors are governments. They will buy them to signal their virtue and because expense is not a concern they can afford the higher prices.
I gotta say the rep who was talking about the electric Deere either knew absolutely nothing about it or the numbers are so bad that it’s nothing but a really expensive Christmas decoration…lol. She didn’t say one single thing. Great video as always, would love to make it to one of these shows.
I gotta agree with you and couldn't have said it better, That deer rep had no clue, and if they have had the concept since at least 2019 that tells me they cannot get much run time in that small of a package.....by the way electric is not the future, they ( big tech) knows this....I agree it should be an option but not the whole answer...
@@ABMFARM Exactly. They’ve made a calculated decision to represent it that poorly at the big shows. On one hand it shows the priority they place on the concept, but also shows the vanity of the brand itself (taking loyalty and reputation for granted). I agree that a lot of companies know the technology isn’t there to support customer demands but are doing enough in the arena to secure subsidies and elevate ESG scores for access to capital. I was a key manager for a very big brand you know for about 6.5 years and saw all of that from the inside. The part you won’t know yet is which companies are all in on that future ideologically, and which ones are playing the game at this point but are pragmatic about the technology.
Thanks for this view of the show. Lots of interesting products. When I saw postings regarding the JD 1RE last year, I was excited especially since they had been working with the concept since at least 2019. Here we are a full three years later and they are still in concept phase which is disappointing, but like you said, better to get it right rather than to rush to market with a product full of bugs (wait, don't software companies get away with that?).
The problem isn't the battery getting low.. its that it will take hours to charge and get back to work. She was playing coy with the battery life because i'm sure its uselessly low once a high demand attachment is running or even cutting thick wet grass.
I totally agree. Battery technology is not there yet. I cannot see electric tractors in the near future. Nor am I interested in an electric car or truck. I know a local company that has a new Transit van for local delivery. The driver told us that when it got cold last week and he turned on the heater, the van had to be charged multiple times during the day. I’m not interested in paying more for less!
Cool video, but I have to point out...This is the first Kioti "Branded" Skid-Steer, but Daedong has been making them in some capacity for year for other companies!
If I was in your shoes I would still stay with the old school for the tractor 🚜, but that stuff. I seen that you have the same idea. As far as having saws, and drills I like the quality of battery life. Also what do you do when your power is not working from your local utility. Now what do you do if your machine is low on charging.
Cool stuff for sure. I'm really intrigued by the electric tractor. And as you mentioned, the industry is definitely leaning forward towards all electric.
As far as battery stuff. I'm curious on what the cold weather is going to do to them. Tree huggers need to realize what their doing to the atmosphere when they catch on fire. I'm old school. Lol
We work In landscaping and a the first time the company rented an Takeuchi skid steer it broke down after just 4 days on the job loading mulch on to long bed trailers
Skid loaders kinda need a new design ? always an accident waiting to happen getting in and out of them , many times I've slipped when doing so especially in wet and muddy conditiond on the farm . I'm getting older now and mobility isn't what it used to be i don't want to be climbing over the machine to get in it so changing to something like a Tokeuchi loader or simular.
takeuchi makes great equipment Ive been trying to be a dealer for years but they setup some junk dealer in my area as well with zero knowledge and zero service techs so i just bought several million dollars in kubota equipment which imo in just as good !
We need diesel electric forgot electric only for equipment even if it can work all day if you don't have on-site power and live in the south it's not going to work well
Close but not quite accurate Bobcat is owned by Doosan Kioti is owned by daedong Not the same parent company. They have a Partnership on the compact tractors. Bobcat compact are made by kioti, but they aren’t owned by the same company
Bull,I work at a power plant, we don't have a big enough grid for these electric equipment? I have seen a tractor with a solar canopy on it, home made of course, other than that I don't buy it,!
I know this is an older comment, but bad boy is not made by kioti Bobcat is made by kioti Bad boy was made by Branson, which is now owned by TYM. Bad boy tractors are made by TYM.
Right, and the concern being that you have to stop in the middle of something and charge your tractor and the job doesn’t get done because charging is slow. For most people it actually probably won’t be a problem by the time they bring it to market
Yeah, sorry, I struggled with that on this video. That is a pet peeve of mine but there are two reasons. One is sometimes there was a lot of noise in the background and I was trying to digitally filter out the background noise Second, I was using two different cameras and one has a nice microphone on it but it is bulky and the other one is convenient to carry but has no external microphone I thought I leveled that all out in the edit but listening back I hear what you hear so sorry about that
I’m 6‘ 1” , John is 6’ 6” Josh is 6’ 5”. both of those guys caught me off guard with how tall they are the first time we met I don’t know how tall Neil is but it’s a little bit less. Great guy though and he makes great videos
The tech isn't there yet, but it's coming. Just like when those 15,000 dollar plasma tvs first came out.. they gotta run for a little while. As an owner of a couple acres I like the thought of an electric tractor as long as it can do enough work to save my back
Interesting, I thought it was the other way around that Kioti and bobcat were both companies that contracted Doosan to make machines for them I did know that their tractors were almost identical, but wasn’t sure if that would be true with the skid loaders
The 1RE concept is... nothing more than a shell. We've seen this thing get all of 8 minutes of airtime in close to 3 years. It's true name is the NTE 1A. Not to exceed 1 Acre Great video
Yeah, there was a little bit of buzz about it at the show and when I brought the woman over to talk I honestly thought it was ready for sale Not that I’m getting one but people are curious
@@RockhillfarmYT it's definitely got appeal, small applications only. And the fixed battery will be it's downfall. Has to be able to get out of the woods, running out of gas happens. Knowing the gas can in the truck is great piece of mind. How many days were you at the show?
Not excited about e in a Deere, they are obviously no where near ready hence she was dancing. I’m surprised she agreed to talk about it. A,so lithium batteries are through the roof expensive and after 3 years of use good luck. The battery performance significantly drops. I’ll burn dinosaurs 24/7.
It's not that people want to go electric they forcing people to go electric it's illegal in 2024 for a commercial company to run anything, but electric in California.
I know they are partnered with Bobcat on technology or even owned by the same company but it does look like bobcat copying Kubota with the split handles and door design
Electric equipment. Designed for the weekend warrior , it will never work for the full time user's . Also what they will not tell you is that the harder you push the electric equipment the quicker the battery dies. Common sense needs to kick in at some point. Gee wizz.. Let's see I need 30 more minutes to finish this job. Well I have to tell the customer can you plug my machine into your house and I will be back in about 24 hours to complete my work. Nope not for me and will never be for me. Give me good old diesel fuel.
It's funny watching someone talk electric and not want to say any good about it. The guy asking questions oh he knows nothing about electric. Does the battery come out? Hahahahahajah.
Well you obviously don’t know anything about Electric mowers because I talked to a dozen manufacturers. Half of them the battery comes out and half of them have a fixed battery Since the answer can be yes, or no, it’s a valid question. I made 3 videos on electric equipment. One of those videos I was very positive about the electric mower and I’ve never received so many negative comments in my life. The consumer clearly does not really want this product. 90% of people are convinced the technology is not ready. I was roasted for saying I like one of them
@@RockhillfarmYT the funny part is I think you most likely know quite a bit about electric. It's such a taboo subject however everyone gives a very reserved commentary. From a viewers point a view its funny. I'm sorry it is though.
@@RockhillfarmYT oh the question I believe was how exited we are about electric tractors. So, my response is not very. not sold on all the battery powered items.
