Very pleased to hear that they also work well on the road as I have a few kms of road to get to the trails! I want something quite cushioned though, so maybe the Parkclaw would be better for me. As a Hoka fan it was also very interesting to hear that James was slipping in his Speedgoats. I can't help thinking of Nicky Spinks saying in Last Woman Standing how her Inov-8 Mudclaws would be her secret weapon for her 2019 Barkley attempt ... I'm addicted to such videos on RU-vid!!
Nice to see an inov8 review Andy. I love their trainers and their kit has been great quality too. For me it’s their Parkclaw shoe that works best for me 👍
I have these and loved LOVED them and so I just the big brother to them on Monday (Trail fly Ultra G300) - Loved the run out, will be using them for the trail marathon late Feb
My first run today at Street parkrun all off road. Got out my van and ran up the road and just like you found the 270 hard at first. Once on the move on the wet grass 270 came good.
They are amazing. Absolutely love mine. Agree they are firm on the road to begin with, but they do soften. I don't get the ankle movement- maybe I've got fat ankles? 😂😅 After the speed series; maybe it's time to do a trail/mountain running series? 😂
Awesome mate! There will indeed be a trail and mountain series coming next late spring / summer…. In for this - trailevents.co/events/wye-valley-trail-running-challenge/
Seems an ok shoe. Just the lockdown could be better by the sound of it? Ankle i don't want wiggles on the trails . Good to hear they don't feel like ice skates on the road . Very informative review thank you !
The 0mm drop is the only reason why I'm reluctant to buy a pair of these. I might go for the TRAILFLY ULTRA G 300 as that has a 6mm drop. I currently use la sportiva for all my trail running and needs to be something special to prise me away.
I've got both, first the 270s, and more recently bought the 300s. The 300s are the best trainers I've ever owned, can be used for everything and the drop height is perfect. Would highly recommend.
Only had one pair of Inov-8 and that was ages ago. I have still got the adidas Terrex Speed Pro to take out that bought earlier this year and was bit nervous about that at 4mm and really a racer. I was going along more sedately today in the Peg Trail 3 GTX but pretty dry at moment. Not sure I would have place for a shoe like this with also the Terrex Speed Ultra which is probably similar use case of a fairly lightweight trail up tempo shoe and that is a more friendly 8mm. Be interesting to see what you end up using it for.
Yeah your adidas probably covers the base that this one also does! I think now with the ASICS and this shoe I’ve pretty much got all areas covered for now!
That sounds a lot like the roadclaw's I've used in the past, I can only agree. It's a flexible shoe that comes alive on the trails and makes the feet work. I use them for training on the trails up to half marathon and steep hill reps, because they will make the muscles in the feet and ankles work work work. Shift into a more comfy stacked shoe for racing and you feel like flyyyying... Good luck!
Hi Andy, I have just purchased my first pair of inov8's and chose the Oroc, I was ment to be racing the Cheviot 🐐 and was looking forward to seeing how they would perform on the snow and ice but due to storm Arwen it has to be postponed. Might
I’ve got the On Running Cloudventure waterproof (2021). It feels a bit heavy and inflexible with firm cushioning. How does the Terraultra G 270 compare with the Cloudventure in cushioning and stiffness and weight?
@@ScheKitoff You know, that’s very true. I’ve lost over 20kg since July 1, and when I was heavier I could feel the individual cloud elements compress and decompress as I walked or ran in my Cloudstratus V2 shoes. But now that I am lighter I do not notice that cushioning action. I still love the Cloudstratus though. Super comfortable with a stable base and a firm ride. I can run with or without socks and with or without lacing them up tightly, and I never get blisters or pain of any kind in my body no matter how far I run and even if I run every day for weeks. Great shoes!
some manufacturers in providing midsole stack height only give measurement of the midsole and not including outsole (usually about 2mm in road shoes) and insole (usually 4-6mm). Others give measurement of combined stackheigt. By the looks of it, I would guess the 12mm stackheight in the G270 is only the midsole part.
I’ve probably not tested it on the same terrain as him, that’s what I’m guessing is the answer… I’ve used a few nike trail shoes and the grip isn’t great, these are head and shoulders better than those… but I haven’t used them in really muddy or wet conditions,, probably more like damp/slightly muddy
