Thank you, Barry! I like this shoe and hope for a model between it and the G270 with the same drop as the G300 but not so HEAVY! Wanted to love it but not feeling it on those steep uphills. The VJ Ultra, just released, is better for me in virtually every respect and hope you’ll consider trying that. Happy trails and glad you’re reopening Over There!
Right so...will have to get a pair of the VJ Ultra's! All on the up here...I got my first Pfizer vaccine yesterday...and the next one in 4 weeks...and by June everyone might be offered it...Barbers opened this week...hopefully I will be shorn by the next video!
@@OldManRunner Congrats on the first shot of vaccine. Good luck on the second shot with no residual effects. Could you consider a future video on comparing grips of the most excellent shoes you have on road and trails (like G300, VJ Ultra, Craft, Flight Vectiv, Cloudventure, etc)? Thanks much!
@@rajkumarraosinhji1397 Rajkumar… I’ve been trying for awhile to figure out a way of doing some objective testing of grip… I have some ideas… but will work harder on them! But it’s a good idea… Thanks!
Troy Eid how stable is VJ Ultra on technical stuff? Pretty high stack... I see Salomon is coming out with a Ultra Glide @ 10.5oz/US10 'Stack height 32/26, more roomy toe box than most Salomon shoes. Drops in July for $140' that looks very desirable to me. Specs on the VJ Ultra look quite close to the Speedgoat EVO [EDIT a promotional video lists 300g at US9 (doesn't jibe with VJ listed weight), quite heavy (my US13 EVO is 10.55oz). I'm annoyed these companies are playing games with listed weights], but again I'm wondering about stability....
I have a pair. Yes they are heavy compared to some, however they are very comfortable with one addendum, don't over tighten laces for me as it's a thin tongue, but fits really well.
@@i.p2088 I went running last night in The North Face Vectiv… I have to be super careful with the laces. The shoe is narrow in the mid foot (I have wide feet). The laces really lockdown which is good, but if I don’t leave them loose I end up with searing cramp in my mid underfoot. I learned this the hard way… but at least I remembered …and had a most enjoyable run in them last night…
@@OldManRunner I usually lace to tight in the midfoot and have foot pain in the midfoot the following day. Tried the elastic lacess but it was a non starter. I want to get the Nike shoes with the un center lace like Vapourfly or Streekfly to see if they fit better for me. I do have wide midfoot..
I have the G270 which is a zero drop ha very flexible shoe. it only has four and a 4.5 mm lugs I think but the grip is great. Took it on wet rocks took it on some wet boards. The grip was really good probably not gonna be the greatest in real deep mud or something but oh I’ll find out how long they last though I’m not at that point yet
Hello Bilal. This is the shoe that I have run in the least that I like the most. The lack of distance in them is because I live in the city and I have not run on as many trails as I like. So I can't comment on the wear and tear, apart from that they seem to be very solidly constructed. I find the shoe true to size. In a UK 12 it is an EU47. It is a good fit, I often go to an EU48 in other brands. I do recommend them, I love the ride in them.
Hello Boudewijn. I took them to the beach this morning to see what they were like...very comfortable on hard sand and also on the loose stuff, really nice on the sandy trails as the foam is very comfortable and the shoe adapts well to the terrain underfoot. I did run on some small dunes, always a struggle, like swimming in honey, but they worked fine. I didn't over tighten them but they didn't let much sand in.
Excellent review, Christmas is coming and I'm after a trail running shoe for mixed terrain. I'm training for an ultra in the summer, so looking for a shoe for all the training and the race itself. I have a few trail shoes but there not comfortable after roughly 10miles. I've narrowed it down to on cloud ultra ( at £160) or invo8 trailfly ultra g300 at (at £138) I average Park run in 25mins so feel the carbon plate offerings wouldn't help as much. I'm after comfort over speed. I also have size 12 feet so is 425g too much. Which shoe would you choose ? or is there an alternative ? Any help with this is much appreciated 👍
Darren. The weight is the only downside to the G300. The grip it offers is super. The Cloudultra has less grip but has a lovely ride. If it was a dry park run on mainly packed earth in summer I would go for the Cloudultra … but if the terrain is mixed and tricky and you need the grip then the G300 would be my choice… I really enjoy both. The G300 belies it’s weight with its comfortable ride. I haven’t run in the G270 but it has been well reviewed and is lighter... and might be worth considering. The G300 is very well built and feels indestructible. Much as I like my On-Running shoes they suffer from wear and tear more quickly than they should… this could be a factor I think you can get a discount on each by signing up for emails, which you can always cancel later. I think the returns policy is pretty similar. About 30 days and send back in the original condition… I have both of these and I have the North Face Vectiv and Craft CTM Ultra Carbon which have Carbon plates. I reviewed both on the channel. I would love to combine the best of each of these two into one shoe…they both are flawed first efforts… though I have a soft spot for the CTM If you want grip and good wear I would go for the G300 otherwise the Cloudultra Hope this helps
@@OldManRunner thankyou for your fast and detailed response. It's down to the fact if on was more durable and gfly lighter the choice would be easier. Saying that I've been trying to purchase the craft ctm ultra carbon in black/white (awesome colourway)size 12 for the past 4 months with no luck . If I could get hold of those I wouldn't need to make this decision.
@@darrencobby3959 I love the colourway… the grip is shockingly bad in the wet. It’s probably the shoe I’ve most wanted to try a version 2 of…it popped up recently heavily discounted in brighter colours… but I do love the Zebra one…best of luck with the ultra!
@@OldManRunner You never heard of swimrun? The reason I asked is because I live near the sea. It's very rocky here, so yes I always wear a pair of shoes when I get into the sea. Of course those I wear for that are made... for that. Since the inov8 are very durable, I wondered if they could be used for running down the trail, jump into the sea, climb back the rocks... Thanks ;-) by the way, the first time I heard of inov8, I was looking for versatile swimrun shoes...
@@ahlen10 Apologies! These are very heavy so they really couldn’t be used. I imagine the foam is light so maybe they would make a swim run shoe… inov-8 are true to their name so maybe they will make some. I live near the sea in Dublin but grew up in Jamaica… and I find the sea too cold…(I’m not very brave!)… I wish I did because I know it has huge health benefits…
Yep, but for some odd reason it doesn't feel that heavy on the move...I searched online for The Furry Glen and found a documentary from when the trail opened in 1975...on RTE...the steps are nearly all worn since then and the handrail is long gone...but these shoes might last that length of time....
