I start working on my 1989 Yamaha ysr 50 that has been sitting for years and end up finding it has a huge problem with it. It is in rough shape, but I think we can fix it up. #Yamaha, #YSR, #2stroke,

What you could do is sanded down the plastic what does sandown machine if you got one if not just paint over it

Happy Father's Day to all and I'd like to share a joke my Grandfather always used on me when I drug home a derelict project. I'd say Pap's it won't start and he would say your radiator cap is the problem! Then I'd say what's wrong with the radiator cap? He would say it's attatched to a piece of shit! sand the plastics that’s what i did to my moped to paint many of the parts and it came out pretty good

Clean all the white powder out of the carb from that e-85 someone most likely ran in it then get a smaller jet to match the regular gas and change the plug.

Check that you have a good clean ground wire for the ignition to the frame. And all connection in the harness.

2 weeks ago i bought one here in argentina. 1.5k usd. The commn problem is the carburetor. Clean it. Old gas. Then check the sprak plug and change it.

I’m guessing there could Be Carbon in the pipe the plug could Be fouled like u said or it could be a carb issue which I doubt. The screws may need adjusted or too much oil

Hey just wanted to let you know 2 strokes us the pipe to make power that loud noise is the pipe leaking it’s making no back pressure which leads for no power band and top end . Keep up the good work man🙏🏻🤙🏻❤️

Get an exhaust donut or find a way to seal the pipe to the cylinder that’s why they sold it cheap. Obviously they weren’t skilled enough to fix it lol.

Just wanted to let you know before you buy a Cdi or something, definitely try this I promise it’s everything on a two stroke, the exhaust has got to be at least 40% of Your motor lol

Depends on what you're planning to do with the bike, if you're selling it then might not be cost effective to get new plastics but if you're keeping it these are rare bikes so I'd say it is worth the investment and then you have a backup set if you wanted to sell the used set to recover some the cost

I like to disassemble my bike when I paint anything but for touch ups invest in some Saran Wrap and masking tape.

You should also use a scuff pad to prep the surface for good adhesion. If not in time your paint will peal or flake off

@Sky B thanks it's easy to obtain and it clings to the parts your trying to protect. Just use a sharp razor blade to trim as you go and final mask. Much easier than newspaper in my opinion!

Spray paint just doesn't hold up very well if you have a bike that is worth getting painted, paint it with real automotive paint, even a poorly sprayed automotive job will hold up better than the best spray paint job especially on a bike that gets gas or oil spilt on it

My brothers Yamaha blaster would run but Would not Rev I know it sounds crazy but the pistons rings might be bad not totally just enough where it won’t perform right I even checked the carburetor on the blaster and it was clean As soon as we put a new piston and rings it works that’s all that I can say

Air leak or timing issue for sure. If not definitely check your ignition system but that's less likely the issue.

Me looking at the exhaust when you pulled it off like it looks like a two stroke pipe but I thought it was a four stroke then when you started it up I realized ITS A TWO STROKE

Same thing was happening with my 1996 kx 250 i would put a new spark plug in and about 5 mins later it bog again had to replace the cdi and the coil

2 strokes dont like to be ridden slow. They need to be thrashed or they will get carbon build up. I road ride my cr125 sometimes and it splutters so I gave it a good thrashing and it was okay again

Check the spark plugs and make sure the Jets aren't clogged in the carb

You never EVER should premix the gasoline ! Put only gasoline in the tank ,the mixup happens when the oilpump does

Have you got the choke on? The choke is on the carb, possibly the lug for it has come off,I think that it's over fuelling causing the spluttering.

It’s could be a cdi unit stator needs cleaning a bad coil pack or ht lead is bad for the plastics I’d sand them down to bare plastic or metal as in tank primer them with white primer then paint with a gloss paint then put a layer of lacquer to bring the shine but you need some petrol resistant lacquer for the tank

Good quality oven cleaner can remove spray paints from plastics pretty well....spray on ket sit 15 mi power wash of wear gloves and goggles

Nail polish remover does an amazing job at stripping paint off plastic

Possibly because you're adding mixed oil and there's already oil injected into it and it is fouling out the plug check plug size also might need to be hotter

Your oil mixture is fine it can’t be to much oil because it would have cleared out it’s either you spark plug or your carb

These engines comes with points located behind the flywheel which you could check, but firstly replace the plug either if it looks ok or not.

i think it's the spark plug but if it's not it could be the float which hangs in the carburetor. and if it's not i would check the kabel which goes from the ignition to the spark plug connector. but it's defiinitely the carburetor or somethibg with the ignition.

Did you try it in a higher gear? My yz100 did that in 1st and second, but the higher gears didn’t, suprising ly it was a gas issue needed to reject it

Could either be the spark plug, the coil or the points. Also Check for proper Earth on the engine, could be a earth problem. Greetings from Holland. I wrenched on bikes and mopeds since i was 10, i am 33 right now.

Just get a new coil,plug,and cdi, also you could just cut the plug wires back about an inch,put new ngk plug caps ,and make sure the coil is grounded and connections are clean,also the battery should be fully charged 👍

@Sky B the best and cheapest method is to get the ohm resistance specs for the ignition components and start checking each part to see if they fall within spec. Also check all grounds and pin connectors for corrosion and faulty connections. Use Deoxit D5 to clean all terminals and remove all corrosion to ensure proper contact.

Like I said use nail polish remover on the paint and it won’t damage the original paint or the plastics trust me I’ve done it multiple times to remove spray paint

Need to strip it bare and go over everything repaint the frame a color red whatever Yamaha has changed colors through the year so you have a wide choice
