What an EXCEPTIONAL drive!!! That is what I love about sports sedans, so much variety in cars and strengths/weaknesses. Simon put up a very well, hard fought battle. You could see the driving style that Simon HAD to undertake, he had to ensure his lines and breaking points were hit flawlessly in order to maximise the speed and momentum to carry him through the corners. One foot out of line to bleed any of that energy off and Brad wold have easily seized the opportunity. Then Brad.... Talk about brave... When the traffic managed to put Simon off his line and lose energy, Brad jumped... He didn't hold back and boy did he braked late! Lots of courage needed there! As for the cars... Simon had the torque to walk away from Brad when he could open up the throttle 100%, however, under braking and mid turn, Simon had to be extremely gentle on his throttle and brake inputs, as shown early when he locked up the inside wheels. Meanwhile, Brad was there the whole time ready to pounce with his lighter, higher revving Fiat. His mid corner speed and ability to brake late into; and launch out of; a corner makes him very dangerous to any of the larger sedans. An amazing drive by both!
The Rotary engine uses more gasoline, while being lighter than the V8; which means his tires will be better than the V8's by the end of the race, and his car will weigh less (less gasoline); so all the advantage to the rotary!
Higher RPM makes up for it mostly. If the rotary is running at higher RPM, it can shift one or two gears lower. The gearing differential between the 2 gears can then be added to the rotary engine's torque, resulting in almost the same torque, but at a much higher RPM.
I literally watched every second of this 15:46 video with the biggest smile on my face!!! I just knew you’d end up overtaking in the last turn before the straight this got my heart beating like crazy the further the race went on bro GOOD DRIVING!!! Once you got that boat out of your way I can imagine you put a decent gap on him considering how much more speed you can carry through the corners. Excellent work!!!
blyndrotor the new Formula Thunder 5000 looks to be very promising if they can get that series off of the drawing board. same with the can am revival unlimited racing championship here in the usa. i think urc isnt happening though its been like 3 years
That was bloody exceptional!! Bloody good driving and dear God that 20B sings!!!! If it wasn't for that straight you'd have atleast a second or two a lap over him.
Bravo for being able to use your advantage in corners and reduce the power/torque gap on the straight and finally being infront of that v8... Watching this reminds me alot of my bike endurance racing where im in the smallest/slowest bike class...being blocked by the bigger class bike in corners and then they get away with power/torque advantage on the straight... But with consistency and persistent in putting pressure on them, they would make mistake or simoly gave up then allowing me to pass through for putting gaps to my class opponent and for the victory... Just dont give up and keep finding the best way to utilize your advantage to the fullest... Awesome race...that sweet rotary note definately was part of it! 🍻
i expected him to understeer hard and for the holden to overtake on the straight...did you see how glued to the mirror he was? lol i think he expected a pass too. i'm wondering how the holden took the corner after being forced out.
its a long video and i normally tend to skip a bit of it because they tend to get boring after a while, but this is a really nice video to watch with great driving. Wish we got more racing videos like this out. And i would love to see this kind of racing on international tv instead of F1, this is much more fun to watch.
Fucking. Bad. Ass. Superb driving. The pressure stayed on. Every part of me was begging for a pass. But I had my doubts as the v8's carry more torque. Half way through, after seeing how flawless this drivers shifting was, double clutching the down shifts, and carrying perfect drifts through the turns, I realized this howling rotary was his perfect weapon. What perfect driving. All my years watching in car footage of rally and track drivers and not being able to finish the video... I was reveted from start to finish. Not only the sound of the 20b, and the straight cut gears, but mostly, what flawless driving! Wow!
Wasn't it just an incredible display of driving. Brad's a machine and really knows how to get the most out of it. Cool to hear it kept you entertained for the whole race, that's what Grass Roots Motorsport is all about. If you're interested, we just realised a long form chat with Joe (the cars owner) about the incredible Fiat 124 and it's history, it's on our RU-vid channel here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UsbA-Nz4rUY.html
No doubt a little bruised afterwords ahah, I drove halfway across my province (~3 hrs) and before I was headed back I noticed my arm/elbow had become really tender from resting it on the door/armrest almost the whole ride.... I can only imagine this kind of thrashing, ahaha...
FukU2222 It may not be great for the elbow but it really looks like the driver is fully connected with the car. You don't so much as get in the car as put it on like a well tailored suit. You feel every minute movement and react instantly allowing for a top level of driving😃
I saw this car at a Cars & Coffee hosted by Berlina Bodyworks.. AMAZING craftsmanship, amazing car and bloody loud!! :o) I have a vid of it somewhere blowing everyones ears apart...
Man I wish there was a backwards cam. I want to see the gap that was put on the red car. FINALLY he passed him. Looked like the red car was faster on the straight ( also this driver missed a few gears at times) but around the corners, this car took that red car. I was like " GET OUT OF MY WAY"! But finally the pass and it felt so good to watch!. Great race.
oh wow, for more than ten min I so much hoped that you're gonna overtake. once you managed to do so, I celebrated like I was driving myself. good job, very imptessive though. keep it up.
Loved the vid. What track is this? Parts of it look familiar, others don't. Don't get to see much racing from down under here. It never disappoints when i do see it. 👍
I've had 3 --124 Coupes and loved em all! ---- Also Had a 1500 millecinquecento Station wagon, that 4 eyed little beastie could, even stock standard, out corner the Cortina GT, wet dry or loose surface -- The GT would slowly catch me on the straights but they were easy meat in the bends! :)
Kind of reminds me of my sim-driving position with the left arm of the chair broken and my right arm restricted by the armrest. Not at all comfortable but the right armrest resisted all my attempts of breaking it too!
Riveting stuff.Watched the whole thing waiting to see if he would get past. The steering column on the Fiat is unusual, tube with a bunch of hole drilled in it...
Looks like this track isnt the smoothest, i think the fiat would have benefited greatly by softening the dampers a tad bit or softer compounds...but what a crazy car and race
That was a good effort......He had to work hard for it though, I bet once he got past the Commodore his lap time would've improved big time. The 4th to 5th gear change looked awkward.
On the edge of my seat the whole time, and that point earlier on where he was pulling hard on the holden on the straight and fucked up a shift.. man.....
We just put out a video that focuses on this Fiat 124, it's owners history in motorsport and the development of the car. If you'd like to check it out head here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UsbA-Nz4rUY.html
