Check out the Hocking Formula Holden currently run by Rohan Carrig in the Historic Formula Ford category. Built by Chris Hocking in Melbourne, Australia the car is based on a March 87B Formula 3000 car. As Australian rules of the time didn't allow carbon fibre tubs, this car showcases Australian ingenuity to copy the car in Aluminium and other composite materials.
Powered by a VN Holden Commodore V6 engine, "The Buick based V6", this car produces 340hp at 6,800rpm.

Thanks for all the comments, it's my car. It is a Holden 3800 V6, the engine in the early day was called the Buick because that was the design taken to create the Holden. Nothing in it is Buick, it is not a Buick.

The Buick V6 was in almost every race car back then. Atleast in America. They were in Indycars, NASCAR stock cars, IMSA prototypes, Pro Stock drag cars, Trans Am cars, etc.

Slightly different engines, most of those are either 'Stage 2' engines or the 3300 Indy turbo v6

Remember this thing sitting under a tarp in a back yard on the southside of Brissy. He had two cars got them for a bargain price (I know I was not quick enough to snap them up from the previous owner), I was keen on the red one. Good to see it back on track.

I was at the opening event for these cars in the late 80s. About 10 cars,, 3 broken cranks and a couple of bent cars. Not the ideal!! Bargwarna and Bright beating each other up. Buicks?? early VN Commodore engine that was based on a Buick. Complete with front drive intake manifold!!

The car was driven by Roger Martin in 1990 and he had an association with Richmond Tafe, I recall some of the apprentices worked on the car ant some of the race meetings.

Why?? Look at a March 87B F3000. Cars from that era all look similar. The theory was to get the driver as far forward as possible.

Perhaps based on a Buick motor of old but it's NOT a Buick motor, its a Holden motor made in Australia. Get it right.

While the origins of the Holden v6 started out as a buick motor, not much is interchangeable as Holden modified the engine to suit it's purpose here in Australia.

@@Frietpan no the Indy buick v6 is a completely different engine with no directly interchangeable parts. Also the Buick 3300 turbo v6 came before Holden began using the v6 here
