The Wildest Mercedes 450 slc EVER! - 1100hp Insane Monster of a Race Car - In The Pits Blend Line TV 

One of the most iconic cars of Australian Sports Sedans! Imagine it going toe to toe with the WEC Porsches at Sandown :O Do you have a standout memory from this car on track?

A car of many incarnations. Started as a Sports Sedan with the Fowler twin cam heads, then went twin turbo for a while and broke quite a few engines. Then it became a GT car with some success. When that inevitably fell over it went back to being a Sports Sedan. Last I saw off it in Thommos hands was the 94 'Thundersports' race at the 94 AGP supports. 10 lapper and hot & drizzly. I was in a group of cars with Bryan, Bob Jolly, Des Wall [Thommo wanted to beat the newer car that he had built from the Jane Monza] I have a feeling it broke the gearbox there and am unsure wether it finished. We had a couple of other cars try to play but they kept falling off. Dave Attard in the Alcair Commodore did it twice! Second time was a hard hit. As did I on the last lap with a spin in the increasing rain on slicks where I lost a spot to Bob Jolly. I finished 6th. I do know that the car then sat on a hoist for quite a period until it found a new home and from there went to NZ. As a n/a car as it is now it never had close to 1100hp. Even Simons 700 may be optimistic. Simons dad Bernie Pfitzner was part of a group building the Develco chassis for Sports Sedans that included Clems Charger [also owned by Simon] the McCormack Charger, and Jag, Peter Finchs Monaro [where is that?] and Tony Ross's 48 Holden [which Simon also owns] Simon runs PPG gearboxes that sells world wide.

I remember when this car was built it was a stunning sports sedan back then ,by the looks of it it still is and it really did have quite a few engine combinations. By memory the turbo set up was the most troublesome but you couldn't go past a Goodwrench motor sport block with brownfield head's and McGee fuel injection music to the ears. Great program guys.

This car is the reason why I, as a teenager, really loved motorsport. Infact this car was on the cover of Auto Action which I then bought for for years and years. Nice seeing it dicing with the Barry Bray Stanza, wonder how many races they have sparred in over the years

So many great old sports sedan/GT cars out there still. As a kid I liked the Merc, also the Bob Jane Monza, and Rusty French's Porsche 935.

Watched this car live 2 weeks ago at Mallala and it's awesome.

Brian Thompson used to race this car back in the early 80s. I used to race Vees at that time and I remember Brian blowing turbos and generally having a number of reliability issues. It was a monster. Still have many photo's of those days and the cars. another great one was Tony Edmondson's Alfetta

worked out at racers rest with peter fowler,the quad valve was ahead of its time then. i can remember reducing the port size to get more torque .

Early 2000's Geoff Munday drove it in the Vic State Series before it went to NZ if memory serves me correctly

Motorsport as it’s Best for real Man

Much prefer to watch these cars than any formula 1. Wish they would ban paddle shifting in racing. I have all the photo's of this Merc from back in its racing days.
