Hopefully this covid bullshit winds down soon so they can plug the hell out of the new album they’ve already recorded with Dave & have coming out some time this year. They deserve way more success than they have now. Watch their Bus Invaders episode on RU-vid, 7 guys living & sleeping in a shitty little modified van that most people would go insane living in for days let alone weeks on end. I don’t know how the lads do it but they at least deserve an RV or better yet a proper tour bus. Hopefully this new album that’s coming pushes them up above the surface & gives them the exposure they deserve so they can start making a better living🤘

@lobster272
@lobster272 5 лет назад
@@McFangsworth Most of his metal mixes are brickwalled and they clip like hell. Drums are way too snappy/clicky with like no low end. Vocals always have way too much post processing. Any time he tries to do a "raw" mix it's dry and lifeless (ETID for example). I think his guitar tones can be pretty good sometimes but besides that he's just not good. I don't get why he's so popular.

“Vocals by them selves, are not that amazing sounding” Dude you’ve given yourself way too much credit. This song is only as good as it is because of Oliver’s vocals. You would be hard pressed to find another tech death vocalist that has the chops he does. A lot of that song should be credited to his skill. Not to say production is not a huge part of why I love relentless mutation, but when you say things like that, I feel like it takes away from the artists and the talent that created such an amazing record. Honestly I stopped watching after that. You may be amazing at producing and engineering, but without Oliver this record would not be nearly as good
@daveotero
@daveotero 5 лет назад
You're misunderstanding the intent there, somewhat understandably so. I cringed a little when I watched this as well because I realized that part didn't really come off correctly. Obviously Oli's vocals are absolutely incredible, and unique, and a large part of what makes Archspire amazing. However, that doesn't change the fact that from a production standpoint the vocals alone don't quite have the necessary impact to feed into the song with the most potential. These samples (mixed in lower than the vocals) add some necessary impact and make the section much more powerful and effective. Besides, this was the band's idea. I'm just showing how we set it up and achieved it in the studio. TL;DR: Calm down, bro.
@ButPirate
@ButPirate 5 лет назад
Late to the part here, but it was awesome you replied to my comment and I’m happy you said what you did. I totally agree that the production adds layers, and complexity. There’s is obviously many reasons the industry is leaning so heavily on these tools. Honestly I probably misinterpreted some of the things you said, including the specific quote. I personally would consider a lot of this “embellishment” more than “augmentation” but semantics aren’t really my point here. Hearing people in engineering and production aspects of the process say things like “it’s not that great” is hard as a performer. I definitely think your contribution to this record is part of why it is so great. The gunshots are definitely punctual, staccato, and add the perfect effect to really make that intro brutal. I really appreciate how humble you were in your reply. Stay tech. And just a quick sidebar, don’t #TLDR someone and then reply with a longer (by character count) or equally as long (by word count) reply. Just makes you look inconsistent.

Seems like you're coming at this entirely the wrong way, the point is to find some sort of unconventional sound that accents the music you're making in a positive manner. "I didn't like this because I don't like this music" just indicates that you missed the point completely. There is no value in not liking things, inspiration and growth only come from taking in new experiences with an open mind.
