They try and dissuade you from recording it yourself because “they have body cams.” What they forget to say is half the time they “forget” to turn it on, they “lose” the footage, they mute it whenever they want, they can straight up deny your request for the footage, charge you exorbitant fees for the video, or redact it as they see fit. “Nah that’s ok officer, I think I’ll record my own footage.”

What's worse, these cops aren't thinking about the fact that plenty of people have pretended to be police in order to take over and steal delivery service stuff. There was no attempt to de-escalate, especially after they realized he didn't believe them and the dispatch notified them. They easily could have communicated through dispatch to find out if he was armed, exchanged names to confirm they were police, then approach and calmly investigate. They'd have found out that they really were wrong.

How can they justify it since their body cams need to be reviewed before being released to the public, i think the public needs to have them remove some of situations from their policy where they are allowed to mute since as I said before their body cam footage has to be reviewed by somebody already in law enforcement before being released to the public, they talk about wanting to be transparent, wouldn't it be more transparent if they were not allowed to mute or block their body cam So everyone would be able to see and hear what actually happened since they have the power to change some ones life. They need to be held at a higher standard. But let's be honest the dishonest ones do this because they don't want their colluding to be known to the public or higher ups.

@oneofthosepeople2101 Thanks battle buddy. We were told early that our job was to "kill people, and break their shit". There were the other required training on the use of force continuum, and LOAC, but nothing about civilian law enforcement, neither US law nor host country. In the video the first officer shouts "contact!" and that's when I realized he was likely a combat Veteran such as yourself. Aside from the use of firearms, there's really no transferable skills from military to law enforcement, even though most people just assume they're practically the same thing. Thanks for reading.

They do it in my city to make sure we don’t swarm when then on-site officers aren’t answering their radios because of yelling. You’d be surprised how many times dispatchers fumble a call by either not following up or relaying information.

What makes no sense is why officers are not running red and blues until 2016 on the body cam. These officers had zero reason to have drawn weapons, they had zero probable cause of a crime much less of a threat. They intentionally blinded him using multiple lights and strobes, but didnt put the red and blues on? Why couldnt they simply walk up to the truck vs yelling? If you walked up to a cop who is sleeping in his car and had a bright light shining at him he would immediately draw his weapo. Last year Texas peace officers killed a landowner for shining his light on them. Yet these idiot officers think yelling while blinding a man is the "safest course of action" he had zero legal obligation to exit his truck. He's not in an armored truck and did not attempt to flee. Cartel hitmen would have killed him if that was his concern. Right vs wrong can be argued after the fact. Pedestrians rightfully in the crosswalk are killed by distracted motorists almost daily. Being right doesn't matter. If you're not going to flee a perceived dangerous situation, freezing is not a viable alternative. If the cops shot him, they'd be dead wrong and he'd be dead right.

That's an exaggeration of the information given here. He explicitly said that the use of a box truck fit the MO of other burglaries in the area. Given that, it's reasonable to investigate it, especially since it was parked in an odd spot and left open. Granted, the EXECUTION of this interaction was awful and illegal, but the inclination that investigate the truck was understandable.

They were happy the 5th circuit gave them qualified immunity on some of the civil complaints, san antonio police officers association will pay most of their "personal" liability. So in a small way it does affect all their fellow officers. Most atty are not going to bother with an appeal to 5th circuit for qi because of the history they have of being pro police, but this was damning when the stupid officers were sarcasric saying "thanks for your help" to the DA who told them there was no PC they sealed their own fate. Yet they still went and pushed for the arrest.

About the same thing happened to me in Wilmington NC. Was doing Door Dash and Uber all day and night. Pulled into a strip mall parking lot to take a nap. Had the window half open and got woke up by someone screaming in my face while blinded by a flash light. Realizing it was a fat deputy I started feeling a bit better that I wasn’t being car jacked but became sick to my stomach when he kept telling me that he got me for DWI/DUI. I had parked there because they had an empty patrol car in the lot. Told him several times that I had been working all night and day and after 24 hours I was tired and was taking a break. He kept saying I was red eyed, drooling on myself, and smelled like alcohol when he walked up. Said that was impossible because it was a new car and I hadn’t had a drink in years. Even demanded the breathalyzer. When I blew 0.0 he really got upset. Told me he’d “do me a favor” by allowing a friend pick me up while he had my car towed. I said no and began asking for his supervisor. That’s when he let me go but with a parting shot of, “I may not be able to arrest you right now but if I see you again tonight I have friends who will find a reason to arrest you”.

@@randilowery9669 good luck getting anything to trial and judgement against police. every time someone sues the legal fees force them to take taxpayer money and let these scum off the hook. the only things i can think of are 1) to start requiring the state to file charges and seek justice so that the state apparatus uses it's power and money to fight for it's citizens (good luck) or 2) to somehow involve the insurance agencies, maybe federal requirements for individual officers to carry malpractice insurance like doctors - meaning that the tried and true rule of insurance companies not wanting to pay out and brutally refusing to insure risky clients would begin to slowly weed out some of these criminals. and of course qualified immunity needs to be addressed probably at a Constitutional level.

Not ridiculous, terroristic threats. That's what they'd charge me with if I did it to them. The cops ARE a threat, their presence carries a threat of physical and legal force. There is no reason to threaten a suspect with assault and physical harm. There is an argument to warn them that if they don't comply, they may get hurt, but even that would need to be delivered very calmly to not simply be a threat of violence. This was a set of threats of deadly force, assault and kidnapping; they just let the guy go eventually. No harm no foul, right? I'm not sure that's how kidnapping normally works.

@@30.06onaGrassyKnoll This wasn't a traffic stop, it was on private property where police cannot conduct a traffic stop at all. Thus there was no reason to command him out of the vehicle. Also it's insane to not just go to the driver's side and have a mutual conversation - instead of threatening a law-abiding citizen with a gun and yelling at him while blinding him with lights.

So, right from the start the only cop with any degree of professionalism is Officer Bird, the only cop that covers himself by starting his BodyCam! Unfortunately all the other cowardly thugs show their true colours by avoiding any evidence of their questionable illegal actions throughout the entire encounter. Any other thugs/cops involved in this dumpster fire turn up as if it’s a major firefight, instead of it being the usual crapshoot with the innocent victim being targeted because he’d woken up to a loud, gob-shite yelling in his ear about his questionable presence in his own driveway! When the cowardly cop calls for backup when there’s no reason, it’s clear that the cop is trying desperately to find any evidence/excuse for his illegal actions so far, yet there’s far worse to come. It’s just more proof that the training of American cops is too short and lacking in the appropriate legal system that is required to perform their duties correctly in the job they are very overpaid to do.
