Insane fishing! 2.5 hours of red hot fishing. fish after fish...

Well this was an evening of insane fishing. Target species was carp, with the hope of a yellowbelly. I caught exactly what I was after, as well as a whole heap of Murray cod. One after the other, all in a fishing session that lasted just 2.5 hours.
For the record, I was NOT targeting Murray cod during the closed season. Just the carp and yellowbelly would have been enough to complete my evening.
WOW This river must be super healthy.

Thanks mate. hahaha There's a lot of greenies dressed up as fisherman these days mate. They will hate the fact that I was fishing there in the first place. There's actually people calling for this river to be totally closed to all fishing for 3 months of the year. There's not much consideration for the word "recreation" in there is there! We buy a RECREATIONAL fishing licence for recreation... not conservation. I would 100% support the push if the rivers were in bad health, but clearly they are in excellent shape and we don't need to lose more fishing opportunities. Apart from 1 or 2 of my serial haters, that is where the rest of the thumbs down are coming from I reckon mate!

yep we do call them Callop in South Australia although some people do call them golden perch or yellowbelly, i remember in one of your episodes you mentioned not knowing how they got the name callop (and i cant remember if i replied) but its from one of the south Australian aboriginal languages im not sure as to which though. Dhagaay, Gagalin and Bidyin are other names for yellowbelly from different Aboriginal Languages, Callop may have stuck because its the easiest to say
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 2 года назад
Oh WOW thanks so much for the great insight mate. Was Bidyin aboriginal for Silver Perch as their scientific name is bidyanus bidyanus?
@comeatmebro3229
@comeatmebro3229 2 года назад
@@robbiefishing from my understanding the name Bidyin was the name of Yellowbelly in the Wiradjuri language and the name for Silver Perch in that language is Baawan. there is no single Aboriginal Language, each Aboriginal People basically had a different language with different names for things so although the languages may be similar there are always differences, hence the differences in the names of fish. so the scientific name for silver perch may have a relation to an Aboriginal Language but i personally don't know if it does. i personally love that some of our fish get there names from Native Australian languages (im not Aboriginal) my personal favorite fish to target and catch Mulloway is one of those fish, Mulloway is a word from the Jarildekald people and means "the greatest one" a name i think fits it well.
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 2 года назад
Thanks for the great insight mate. Sadly many of the aboriginal languages are now lost forever. I live in Wangaratta which i believe means "meeting of two rivers" in our local aboriginal language, Bpangarang.
@comeatmebro3229
@comeatmebro3229 2 года назад
@@robbiefishing just did a bit of googling and have found an answer for you "Silver Perch were called bidyan by the Gamilaraay and/or Yuwaalaraay Indigenous language group where the type specimens were collected. The species is also known as Tooroo (Morunde language group), Teheree (Ngarrindjeri language group), Kooberry (Wiradjuri language group), Kupé (Ngunnawal language group), and Bagguck, Karpa, Buruitjall, Bipe (all Jari Jari language group)." "The scientific name was derived from its aboriginal name ‘‘bidyan’’ by the explorer Major Thomas Mitchell " so yes it was in fact from a native Australian language and it is sad how Native languages around the world get forgotten, a lot of towns around where i live are actually from the local aboriginal language, one of the towns is even the Native language for fresh water spring
