MY GOD, that bend and vibrato at 0:32 is WHY I LOVE guitar! Why I started playing and practicing guitar obsessively when I was 14 and still do now that I’m 31 years old. From your gorgeous collection of instruments and amps to your skill in, not only playing and your ability in teaching people so well, but being so inspirational with the skill and knowledge in which you ply your craft. Plus you present yourself as a very humble, nice guy! You are a true treasure my friend! Keep it up mate!

So many great solos have that lick in it. I like to play the double stop too it sounds really interesting and unexpected. Jimi was the king then Stevie took it to the next level with the crazy vibrato and fast runs. To me they are equal, soul brothers from different mothers.

Screamin' lesson Matt ! ! I like it because it pulls the essential sounding Jimi/Stevie nuance riffs that they were able to learn from Albert King. So happy to have found this page ! !
@tpap6827
@tpap6827 7 месяцев назад
His compound bends off the B and G in box 1 of the minor pentatonic were great. I really got into them when I started listening to Band of Gypsy's and Cry of Love. I am sure he did these earlier in Red House but I love the phrasing and Dynamics. I may be simple but when first learning compound bends it's tricky. Cool lick and great tone, phrasing and vibrato.. I always get the Albert King vibe from Jimi and SRV when they play descending minor pentatonic licks really bending into the root releasing a bend from the. 5th to the forth then descending the scale and playing the low root ending on the second octave. Even Eric Johnson, Bonamassa and Eric Gales cascading descending sequences often end just like these Hendrix evolution of Albert King. You find the same thing in hard rock when good players lead style is based on pentatonics (which regardless of what ppl people say believing they have advanced be beyond pentatonics, if you modal playing is not focusing on the right chord tones pl it s taking advantage of the blues style while adding additional diatonic notes where appropriate, the licks just end up sound like scalar patterns played in 3 octaves using shapes instead of listening to the melodies implied by the chords. Excellent job.

Such a breath of fresh air to hear a young guy like you say Hendrix is the best ever! So many people only listen to Purple Haze and/or Foxy Lady and think that's all he did. But there is so much MORE!!! People should listen to the Hendrix Blues album. He changed the whole paradigm more than even Van Halen did. So instead of thinking he was only good for his time and that shredders nowadays would blow him away one needs to consider his playing in the proper context. NO ONE had done what he was doing in the late 60's. No one had seen that kind of playing before. He was arguably more of a shock to the guitar world than Van Halen was in 78.

Ok, I'll play along. SRV was the king of guitar for me...until I really looked into Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix wins because he was the innovator, SRV played Hendrix better than Hendrix did, but Hendrix came up with all that stuff. When I heard the album Hendrix: Blues, and Electric Ladyland (not talking about the hits) I was blown away. I really need to find a forum where people talk about this stuff. I miss the early days of the internet.

Unless you’re open minded to other genres and other players like early Terry Kath, or Danny Gatton, or Joe Pass, Chet, Jerry Reed, or Jason Becker, other greats besides just Jimi Jimi Jimi
@commanderthorkilj.amundsen3426
Drew Biggah Hendrix’ mind was undoubtedly opened, at the time, helped by lysergic diethyl amide and other guitarists he absorbed from, was heavily into effects and quite a showman. He wrote some great songs, but there were others who were doing similar things at the time, just not as flamboyantly. He’s probably the most overrated guitarist of all time, an idol for you to worship.

Man, you're killing it--I always did that lick on the same fret (14th) bending up to the tonic by a minor third, instead of a whole step, so you use the same finger (ring) on the B and G string--it sorta switches strings under your finger. That may be a Lukather thing.
