I 100% recommend a driver fitting like this, BUT PLEASE make sure you're in golf shape before you go! I know that sounds dumb but it's not uncommon for a fitting to go longer than an hour if you're trying all the different head/shaft combinations. Because if you've never hit drivers for 1.5-2 hours straight it's exhausting! 😂
Also, in my opinion, if you have a high handicap and dont regularly break 100, then it is probably a waste of time and money to get fit. You will spend a lot of money for nice clubs with inconsistent shots. Stick with regular flex shafts for men and ladies flex for women.....get lessons, play better, and then think about a proper fitting
Thank you. But this kind of fitting is only for player that hit the ball every time on the spot. For the average player a standard shaft of today’s quality is more than good enough. 😊😊
A fitting from someone who is not selling their preferred brand would have your best interests at heart. Great facility and video. Great way to start the new year leading into all the new drivers being released
That was a long video but worth the time spent. What I took away from this clip is that to benefit from exotic/expensive options a player needs to have a high skill level to produce a regularly consistent swing. Without that consistent regularity the differences in successive swings can mask all differences that could be offered by different shafts. In effect I believe I can't swing the club well enough to feel the differences in the shaft options. Really, players need to be near tour standard to benefit from such a service.
This past September I went for a driver shaft fitting at Accra in Kingston, Ontario Canada. Lucky for me they are 30 minutes from home. Ended changing shafts in both my driver and 3 fairway, kept my club heads. Eight to ten yards distance for both clubs and much better dispersion. Two weeks later another fitting for my irons switched from stiff steel shafts to regular graphite Accra shafts. Again distance gains but better ball flight and dispersion. Rather than new clubs I switched up shafts spent significantly less money and now feel I am getting the most out of the clubs I have been playing for a few years now. Money well spent.😊
SGGT are second to none. Superb fitting experiences on the times I’ve been for irons and wedges. Also did a driver fitting, nothing came out better than what I was gaming, so no pressure to sell me some thin I didn’t need either. So good 👌🏻
Scott and his team do amazing work. The range of options is almost limitless and they're brilliant at helping you navigate towards the best outcome for you and your game! Always worth paying them a visit.
I’ve been fitted for 2 sets of irons and a driver at SGGT over the years at their fitting Centres around Edinburgh. Always a great experience. One thing I really like is you’re not stuck with the manufacturers fitting carts, you can have any head on any shaft, with any grip. My clubs are all totally unique and tailored for me, I even have more tape under my right hand and a tiny amount of extra weight in the heads of my irons.
Great video that. Loved you calling out Gaz for wanting the coloured shafts, and then you were itching to get into the bright pink Autoflex 😂 but I definitely would be doing the same. Look forward to seeing how you get on with it.
Good content and informative. Would have been nice to see a summary of the data by shaft/head combination with a comparison at the end. Also a comparison showing the different dispersion results, too.
I got fitted at SGGT in Edinburgh. Loved it. Spent a small fortune. Back end of 2024 for driver and 3 wood fitting. Please don’t go here expecting to save money. That will not happen. But u won’t be left disappointed
Go to a lighter shaft, I picked up a vanquish 40 gram stiff, tipped 1 inch @ 44 inches on a cobra ltd-ls, it's high launching and low spin and picked up 4 mph and 15 yards !!😀, James you and your family have a great new year !!
40gram shaft!? I shot a 77 on a pretty hard coarse Saturday and my driver averaged maybe 260yds😢. My daughter(high school) plays a 50 gram and I’ve always loved the weight of hers but obviously it too whippy. I’m gonna take your advice and get a light stiff tip shaft and try… thanks
Hmmm Autoflex launching a too high and spinning too much but the same distance , I am surprised the fitter did not lower the loft which would have helped both of these issues and addressed the swing weight as Autoflex straight from their sight have a chart which shows the proper swing weight for each shaft , mine wanted a D0 D1 SW , that TSR is factory D3 - D4 which could cause a droop issue that heavy , it can be a real beast once its tuned in !!! I love mine !!! not for everyone seems to work better for smoother transitions. Hey James order a few lighter head weights and give yours another try !! it also took a few rounds to get used to the lighter feel, good luck !!!
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer Great vid James. I've also been watching your pal Gary's fitting videos and he seems to have had a lot of success...especially with his driver, by adjusting swing weight.
I remember when the average Golfer barely thought about shafts beyond the flex! This along with Gary Martin’s videos have been excellent in explaining the importance of being fitted. Enjoyed this.
Thanks James. I think its important when you get a fitting that the golfer talks up to the fitter and says what feels right etc. If you are hitting good shots it could be just time to stop and pick the shaft! Otherwise you risk messing too much and getting confused.. Also beware picking the last shaft you try as you are warmed up and probably walloping it at that stage!!
As an owner of an AutoFlex X shaft (not currently using) I recognised the similarities to what you were getting. Would have liked to him try you in a lower spinning or lofted head just to see if you could have dropped spin and descent and gain some more roll out yards. Would also like to see some form of alignment on the mat just to get a better perspective on target. Also, looking at your swing it seemed clear that the old shaft wasn't ideal for you.
I am gaming TPT in both my driver (nitro 16hi) and mini driver (red 15lo) - never looked back!! dispersion is much tighter, and ballspeeds are through the roof without killing dispersion closing in on 200 mph BS - 10/10 recommend it to everyone,
Chris great observation, limited time with James for this video as we typically have 90mins minimum for a driver. We air compress grips and swing weight everything when time allowed but this was a pure shaft fitting same head to max out potential
Very interesting video James. I also like that you somehow are driving into the default windows 95 desktop graphic. :). Keep the great content coming in 2024.
This was very interesting and the interplay between you and the fitter both engaging and enlightening. One question though - at the end of the day, did you switch outs of the Paradym Triple Diamond??
Something I don’t understand… the driver is hit at most 14 times a round. Irons at least double that.. why aren’t more iron shaft fittings done. Like I want to keep my iron heads, but maybe an updated stiffer shaft may help you more than a driver shaft.
Can’t be the same price as a normal fitting but looks amazing I’ve gone from 60g stiff to 50g reg to hit more fairways so somewhere like that would be something I should look at 👌👍👍
Not a clue this was there, it's less than a mile from home! My local driving range, but haven't played for ages so not kept up to date. No excuses now re kit if I make a comeback..
Do they have every shaft with the appropriate manufacturer’s tip or a universal tip (like All-Fit)? I think a lot of people that tinker would be interested in using a universal tip if a suitable one is available.
good vid, thanks James. would have loved to see how much impact was with the new shafts fitted to your Paradigm triple diamond head. just thinking the new driver head must have had an impact on the result compared to the Callaway. Good nontheless.
I was so interested in this as I’ve always had a keen interest in golf equipment/fitting and the tech side of the business. Unfortunately, James, you constantly interrupted the fitter. Having posed an interesting question, he tried to give a scientific and practical answer, but was always stopped halfway by you making a statement about YOUR game. He was so polite and fascinating- shame your inability to listen, stopped us from hearing the full analysis. It was as if it didn’t matter what he thought was best, you knew what was best and that was that……..shame.
James, was this before, after or with Gary? Answered while watching, Gary was having the iron shafts checked, graphite on the way. The shaft of choice at the fitting, really delivered, but will it enter the bag in the not too distant future James?
Problem with alot of ppl, me included, is not having a consistent swing. What might work best for a certain swing speed at the beginning of the round may not be as good when you've been playing for 4 hours and just want to get home.
James, I purchased a Tour Edge Exotics C723 Hybrid, it is incredible. I am very interested in the Fairway Woods now, possibly a 15 degree 3 Wood the Tour Edge Exotics C723 with adjustable head. I would love to see you and Chris test it in your usual process. I believe it will have the same sweet balance, feel and performance. I would go hit one but there's no shop anywhere near me with any. Hope you, Chris and families had a "Happy" Christmas....Blessings to you in 2024!
If you’re looking budget my pick is Callaway preowned, like new paradym 3 wood is $210. Pro clubs and mikes golf outlet has some good options too. You can get a new Cobra driver head for $150 and used ventus velocore or graphite design shaft for $200
All the best for the new year firstly. So why doesn't manufacturers pure their shafts before sending them for dispatch. Would have to go to the Edinburgh branch for a fitting but think I'll get a few lessons before splashing the cash but certainly worth a look do they also mess around with the weights in the head as well??
Gary didn't just change the shaft. He got his swing weight dialed in, too. I didn't see any checking or tinkering with the swing weight directly in this video.
You sticking with TSR3 now?.😂 Watching the ball tracker, it actually looked like the Autoflex was very consistent, you just needed to turn the loft on the head down a bit to reduce some of the spin. Go back and do it again.... good fun 😂😂
@@LaurencePawley Thats fair enough, Maybe worth mentioning in the videos as people will judge it as a fitting and perhaps think its not as in depth, thanks for the reply! Would be great to see a video comparing a pured shaft to a standard one and make it a blind test.
Whats your opinion on mizuno swing dna tool on the shaft which uses your swing data and narrows down a selection of shafts ? Would be good to see the same for driver fitting.
‘Every shaft in here has been pured’ fitter later states ‘You can’t pure this shaft’ when referring to the TPT! Hmmm so why has it got a Pured sticker on all the TPT range? Hope you aren’t misleading customers into charging them £30 for it to be pured when it can’t be or is not required! Anyway, still looks a top class set up but chubs will have a new driver/shaft combo in a few months again! Leopard never changes its spots!
Great video, always love to see a proper fitter help someone max out their potential. Looking at your tracers, "seemed" like the Autoflex was the most consistent?
Kinda feel you down played the Autoflex a bit there. TXG tested and actually showed that Autoflex can benefit even the top players with the right fitting. If the ball went the same distance with more spin, then if it was a "true" fitting to get the maximum performance, I think you / the fitter should have tested different heads / lofts / swing weights to bring the flight / spin lower to optimal. Jumping to a conclusion, same performance double the price isn't a fair fitting I think. I'm not an Autoflex user, I play Hazrdus smoke Yellow, just point out what I felt like a bit of bias fitting.
No elephant Oliver, Sam is an exceptional fitter and had a fitting myself. This video is 27mins of fitting which was the full time we did and only looking at shaft profile. More than happy to talk you through the full process which when you see our workshop behind the bay will show we cover everything, with universal adapters to use your own head if you wish. 👍
Because of a total lack of info: a driver fitting here is £100, and driver, fairway and hybrid fitting is £150 and takes 2 hours. If you buy the product from them, the cost of the fitting is deducted from the price.
Until we put ‘dots’ on shaft and see players characteristics and match them with manufacturers own characteristics this will be a long arduous stressful process.🤔
That was a driver fitting, not just a shaft fitting. The first change they made was to switch the head and then you picked the shaft to match that. If you'd gone back to the triple diamond at some point after narrowing down the shaft, I could see calling it a shaft fitting. However, a normal Joe like me would end up walking away $1000 poorer at the end of that "shaft" fitting. So for the price of a set of Takomo irons and a couple of wedges, or about 15-20 rounds of golf, you get how much improvement out of the driver? We didn't get to see the numbers. At the end of the day, I would have a really cool driver, but I'd have blown most of my annual budget for actually playing golf.
Hi Vic, why limit the fitting to those 3 just because a product is an in vogue product on tour doesn’t mean it’s appropriate. We have all of those in the studio as you can see on James’s video but just not appropriate for him on the day.
