I do like seeing different and unique things in metal, and her voice is unique. I think I'll check out more. I did get a bit of an Opeth feeling from some parts. That said, I would love to see you do another Opeth video. I know there aren't a lot of great videos for a vocal analysis, but Mikael has written so many amazing songs and does so many great things with his cleans and growls in all of them. The 2 videos you have done were barely a taste.

@@futurebreedmachine9302 Being able to to actually see the singer and what they're doing is part of the analysis. How they move their mouth and stuff. It doesn't even have to be live, a music video like this one works just to have something more interesting than a still image of the album cover.

Hmm, maybe not the best choice for a first impression (A Return To The Earth Below for example is much more impressive and explores more of her voice registers), but still a solid performance from one of the best vocals in Progressive Metal right now. Cammie is absolutely stellar, both in studio and live, and puts her soul into every note. I don't remember the last time I was so impressed by a "new" voice in the scene, she and the brilliant drumwork from her husband makes this project one of the best things that happened to Metal in the past decade. Cammie has an amazing voice. This is the leadoff track from the latest album, where they leaned heavily into a Southern gothic feel. Dark and brooding, lovely stuff. If your looking to just listen, their version of "House of the Rising Sun" from that album is haunting. Staying with a haunting, dreamy voice, check out A.A. Williams and her song "Control". specifically the version from "arco". She scored her original for strings. She was a professional cellist before taking up the guitar and singing. VERY cool to see you venturing into the "Doomy" darker side of Prog Metal :D. Thanks for that! I wonder if you might also like a band very much like this, but a completely different voice from "Marjan Welman" in the band *Autumn* from the Netherlands. She joined in 2008, and appeared on the album "Altitude" (2009). Marjan also appeared on the Ayreon album "01011001". Suggested tracks: The Heart Demands Syncro-Minds "Cold Comfort" (2011) The Scarecrow Cold Comfort (title-track) There are videos for "The Heart Demands" and "The Scarecrow" (GORGEOUSLY sung, and perfect music accompanying her beautiful voice). But . . . . If you want some INSANE Prog Metal with odd-time signature's _before_ the Djent scene, and a incredible melodic vocalist by the name of "Øyvind Hægeland", in the Math Metal band *Spiral Architect* from Norway. They've only created 1 phenomenal album called "A Skeptics Universe" (2000). The other members have been in Black Metal bands, but thought they'd try their hand at Technical Prog Metal . . . Suggested tracks: Adaptability Insect Spinning And for the band that inspired this type of Prog Metal, including the genre; from 1989 album "Control and Resistance": *Watchtower,* with vocalist "Alan Tecchio" (who came from the Thrash band "Hades", also from Texas). This was at the peak of Alan's vocal range, as it has matured a great deal. Though Hægeland's voice is still going strong and able to hit incredible highs. Suggested tracks: Control and Resistance (title-track) Dangerous Toy Instruments of Random Murder Unfortunately both bands don't have quality live footage or pristine quality videos, so I hope studio tracks will suffice. Lots of other bands of this sort (some a bit heavier, more aggressive), but hopefully others will suggest other bands. I think you will be floored by not just the vocal ranges, but also the impressive music, which they have found a way to sing on top of. All 3 bands will probably NOT have many requests, as they are obscure and very "niche'", so I hope you will search out for them. - Hope you and fans enjOy Elizabeth \m/.

Hi Elizabeth. Just stumbled on a new video from a Christian Rock band who formed back in the 1980's. The singer is Michael Sweet from Stryper and the song is called Transgressor. Amazing vocals from a 59 year old. 🤘👍👌

What a beautiful piece of music thank you for expanding my horizon! I really love watching your facial expressions and visceral reactions to music. You also point out little techniques and explain the technical terminology of what is happening vocally really well. Thank you!

this album is quite a departure from their sound , which is more like a progressive death/doom sound with tons of extreme parts and growls. Check out their previous three albums "Oceans Of Slumber" , "The Banished Heart" and "winter"

Along the prog metal lines, I’d love to recommend Ex Libris. It’s prog but with a lot of symphonic metal influence. Dianne van Giersbergen is one of my favorites in symphonic metal.

Wow. Never heard of them before, but I looked them up based on watching this video. Seen they've done covers of some old classics too, like Nights in White Satin and House of the Rising Sun. Cammie's voice is truly haunting. I will definitely be listening to a lot more of their songs.

Great to see you've reached Oceans of Slumber and the latest of Ayreon's leads (Transitus). I've been hoping you get there, as she's quite amazing! Their earlier stuff was reminiscent of The Gathering and was heavier, doomier, like an awesome cover of Solitude a few years back, but now they've evolved to a thing of their own, with this latest work moving off on a tangent of their own, less metal, but just as impressive.

Oceans of Slumber is SO great! This song seems like a very odd choice for a first listen though. The obvious choice (to me) for a vocal analysis is their live studio session of "This Road". Runners up would include "Winter", and "A Return to the Earth Below".

Hey Elizabeth, recently found your channel and love listening to your take on songs old and new. I especially liked your Tremonti video of his Sinatra cover. I've listened to Tremonti for years now (huge fan all the way back to his Creed days), but it's cool to have someone walk you through the song and techniques he uses, and really appreciate what a talented vocalist he really is. If I could make a recommendation for you to look at - take a look at Our Last Night. They're a trio, consisting of 2 brothers who both do the lead vocals, one's clean and the other is a screamer. They do some really cool stuff, and one of their videos is of Disney rock covers which I think you might find quite intriguing. Anyway, keep up the great work, and look forward to seeing what you come out with next :)

Since we're back in prog metal I'd love for you to check out Ne Obliviscaris again. I feel like you've barely tasted their potential. I discovered them through you and they've since become my favourite band by far. I would recommend Painters of the Tempest or Forget Not as some of their best pieces for a reaction.

Oooh a Oceans of Slumber reaction! Maybe not the best first impression track, but it's still a very good song. I think Winter is still their standout track, but they've got a lot of great tracks. ...This Road, A Return to the Earth Below, or The Banished Heart would be good reactions

Yes! One of my favorite bands. So many great songs, I wouldn't have known what to pick, but this is certainly a good one. Maybe not their most vocally elaborate, but definitely a solid representation of their sound these days.

A Return to the Earth Below! I'm not the first to say it and surely not the last, for a good reason too. I implore you! Listening to that song again I don't really understand why recommending this over that considering the vocals.

Yes Madam, that was about time. Cammie is one of a kind in metal, soulful, powerful and unique ❤ Maybe not the perfect choice for a first reaction, there are better songs, but it gives a nice impression of what she’s able to do. Cammie is Instant goosebumps. A Return to Earth Below would have been my choice I guess, or maybe Banished Heart

Good stuff! Talking of Houston why is it that the genius 3 part harmonies of 3 piece masters KING’s X (from Houston) never gets the vocal coach treatment? I think you’re missing a real treat there. “Summerland/Goldilox/It’s love” all bangers from one of the most overlooked bands of all time. Same can be said of the queen meets beach boys power pop multi layered harmony- tastic JELLYFISH too. Love the videos and songs you cover. Hoping you one day get to Soen (ex Opeth drummer Martin Lopez’s band). Joel has a beautiful voice. 💙🤘

Since you mention that you've been into Thrash Metal (my overall favourite metal subgenre since I heard "Fight Fire With Fire" for the first time on the radio in 1984) since the 80s, I wonder if you are familiar with Znowhite's only full-length album "Act of God" (1988) which is one of my favourite Thrash Metal albums and one of the very few way back then to feature a female vocalist and a black guitarist - Greg Fulton aka Ian Tafoya - who also wrote all of the songs.
