Great video, as always. That place is a dream. Thanks John, you’re a blessing! Can’t wait to see you win one of these, I believe it’s only a matter of time
Keep chucking and winding 👍 Buzzbait before sunrise then right at sunrise switch to a double willow leaf gold blade chartreuse skirt just under the surface making a wake. Grassy areas are a must. Have a Blessed Day!
That is a massive river quality, small mouth. Seems like there's no end the places to go. Great day John. You know, there's big ones left in there. Go get them.
wow that looked a lot better than when i was there the Wednesday. Made the mistake of going above the dam since I didn't have confidence in myself below the dam. Crucial mistake.
Welcome back to the Susky… I love this river which is why I bank fish, wade fish and kayak fish it all year long… just a great fishery! Glad you enjoyed your time in PA!
I fished that tournament and still can’t stop thinking about how good it was 🔥 I caught so many fish the 5 days I was there it’s silly ! Can’t wait to get back to PA
John unbelievable 1st day showing thank you for sharing your day on a very beautiful experience fishing and catching done amazing fish lots of great competitors out in the field can’t wait for part 2. Tight lines take care and God bless!
@@CreekFishingAdventures Last Fall I hired a Susquehanna River guide to go for Musky... only got one small Smallmouth. Afterwards, I took the kayak up to Northumberland to fish where the two branches come togather. Nothing hitting til I make a few last casts before I pull the kayak out...and I get a Pickeral!! Everyone I talked to say Pickeral are very rare on that river, so what are the odds Pickeral are my thing and I get one on an unlikely river?
Great start to the tournament John and follow your gut. You're were smacking some well built PA smallies and tomorrow you'll land a few more. Blessings
I bet your loving the motor, was able to consecrate on fishing than padding & a lot less tired, that's a great score first day, can't wait for the next video of this tournament!👍
Every time I see the Susky puts out giant fish, you think it can't get any better, then it does. As someone who lives in PA, I need to be down there more than just once or twice a year. PA has a lot of nice rivers and they keep improving. PS, it's pronounced Sus-KWE-Hanna, but I'm sure others have told you that, lol.
I grew up on the North Branch of the Susquehanna. Unbelievable fishing some days. Good chance of hooking into a musky while smallmouth fishing up there
Great vid as always John! Sorry to see yer favorite rod pop; if the blank gets “bruised” I’ve had em go like that. Great work in the tourney that sounds like 4 days of hard work!!
Well I purposely don't keep up with tournament standings so I can go into these videos without knowing the results. I'm really looking forward to part 2. 👊👍
As someone that lives 5 minutes from the Susquehanna I can tell you that.2 3/4 - 3 1/2 inch tubes are king in the Susquehanna. Rapala x rap works great also but should be Hot Steel color for best results. Great video
I’m in eastern ky we don’t have a lot of good smallmouth fishing here don’t get me wrong u luck into a 2 pounder every now and then again but not that often. I still love fishing the creeks around here Just wish it was better. Love the channel tight lines
Wow John. 89" and 44th place... Man there are some nice fish in that river! I just saw a Matt Stephan video where he was saying he likes to throw dark colored spinner baits. As much as you use and love spinner baits, you should check out that video, see what he has to say, and then try some! It could be a way for you to start catching a few more spinner bait fish. I look forward to seeing how this tournament turned out for you. Blessings.
That place is screaming for a Rage swim bait on a ball jig and drag those eddies! It would be hard for me not to throw the Jackhammer with a little trailer too. That place looks awesome.
Welcome to my neighborhood! You put in a solid day. Is the tourney limited to the Susquehanna or can you hit tributaries, too? I've always had good luck on the Juniata.
You might want to tie that safety line on your motor key, it does you no good if you knock it off into the water. Tie it off and attach the line to your pfd. Your motor is louder mine, mine is really quiet. I am running mine on a Hobie, wonder if mine would sound different on a different kayak. That motor made quite the difference for you this year didn’t it!
Would I be better suited to mount my anchor wizard on the bow or stern? I usually fish rivers, might take my kayak on some smaller lakes. I usually try and go up stream so I have the current to help me back to the car when I am done fishing/tired. I like to anchor at a spot for a few minutes/break it down and move up.
I like to anchor off the front so i can face the current with my kayak, easier to control and if off the back it can be useful but also can get dangerous if current is really strong
They’re fishing measure Matt the yellow one where did you buy it? I’ve been looking for one like a Dck Wallmart and I cannot find one. I love to get the one that you have any information thank you.
Those guys that told you to throw top waters early are probably the leaders after the first day. It pays to listen. It just seems like you have become too dependent on the spinner bait. Just another thought you might throw a real walk-the-dog top water, something with a little size. I am sure most people commenting just want to see you do well.
You are doing so well as a newer fisherman. When you are catching a lot of fish on a spinner-bait remember that the hook will get dull. just like a knife the hook needs to be resharpened and touched up. A simple 4 dollar knife/hook sharpener on amazon will fix the problem. After you catch a fish, it takes 5 seconds to hit the hook with a sharpener. Works I promise. It took me years to learn that trick. Do it after a snag on wood or whatever also. Trust me
nice to see the action.. Im a north eas tpa guy / wyoming valley. up this way and north of me. T here are some absolute slammer spots.. Big fish and lots of them. clippers and stone cats for bait and you will get sick of realing fish in lol
@usmc24thmeu36 I live up here and fish the Susquehanna every single weekend. They definitely get to 5 but I've never heard and seen anything get up to 6. So I would say 5 and maybe a little above.
Keep fishing some of the bigger river systems, better quality fish makes for better video content. Love the creeks but blue gills are blue gills 😂😂., start to lose interest after 5 tiny fish. Just my opinion, keep the videos coming.
