That Dekay's, I would have mistaken it as a garter snake. I appreciate you doing this channel because it has truly made me less afraid of meeting a snake in my yard. I think I could even identify them now. You've also made me realize that looking down isn't the only place snakes can be. That freaks me out a little but I think less so now. So thank you.
So I live in Maine, A very cold state, so I can’t go helping year round, it really sucks, I caught the first snake of the year A week or two ago, and just the day after, there was a blizzard. And a few days after that, it rained a TON and caused many power outages. I freaking wish I lived in a state that was at least a lil warmer 😥
You seem so cool! I bet you have lots of friends. When you get to a million subs you will have to do a contest giveaway for a herping session with you lol. It’s like a “diamondback ratsnake”. 😂
Aussie here enjoying a look at what you guys have over there. Your snakes seem to be a little more conspicuous than ours. Aussie snakes, it would seem, tend to be a bit more cryptic...down here in the South anyway. Would love to see you find one of the spectacular hognose morphs that I've only seen images of. Keep up the great content.
Pat thedog at you got u some giant skinks :) (the blue tongue) and awesome spiders (like the peacock jumping spider) and other amazing and unique animals there :) best we got is the spiny orbweaver in terms of spiders and regular skinks and best we got in terms of snakes is the weastern hognose or corals and their mimics
Cheers! Certainly have some awesome sized skinks here. Turned up a couple of Eastern bluetongues in my backyard this summer. I'm about twenty minutes from the city centre of Adelaide. If you get a chance, check out the Ctenophorus genus dragons, or the Oedura genus geckoes. Awesome critters.
@@douglasstemke2444 Our nation's 2nd largest state of Texas and actually my fav is where (Noah?? I believe that's NKF's first name...makes sense) did so recently in Alpine area as well as Big Bend!! I admit though that Australia became sort of a snake Mecca for me after your Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin did his '10 Most Dangerous Snakes' episode on TV!! Jim C.
if those are fire ants and there bothering you, i would find a safe way to remove or eliminate them since they arnt native and are actually invasive:) there are environmentally friendly ways of removing ants so you dont have to worry about hurting other animals
You’ve got some keen eyesight to be able to spot that kingsnake in those leaves, well done. However you did miss that branch snake in the first stack of tin, third sheet down......
I am so jealous of all these box turtles! I still haven't found one in the the wild yet =( I have been lucky to find some amazing wood turtles though! (eastern CT)
I found one, though it was not wild it was captive, someone released his as he was too comfortable with humans, he had a large injury to his shell, I took him in well my dog brought the turtle to me and we kept him, he thrived until he sadly passed, he was such an amazing NV turtle with soooo much personality, he knew his name and he would walk on a leash and pose for pictures XD
Really good segment. That Rat snake was awesome . So many great finds . I could never stand the smell of a Garter snakes musk , nearly puke every time.
That don’t look like any copperhead I’ve ever seen 😜 Most people in the US should maybe wonder why they call the snake a COPPERHEAD with Hershey kisses down the side well that’s what they look like in Asheville NC luvvin ur videos from crazy in quarantine in Ash NC
At 15:45 minutes, is it possible that first "watersnake" was actually a gray rat?. When you zoomed in, that was my first thought. Growing up in NW FL, that was our most common snake. As a kid I handled them quite often. Btw, I just watched your Coral Snake video; OMG! I'm so jealous. I've never seen on in the wild. Keep up the great work and Hopefully more people will learn it's not necessary to kill snakes. My Dad kills snakes and I always wished he would'nt. In the past,we had a fish pond and he didnt want the snakes eating his frogs.. LOL.
Just scribed I've been watching you for awhile I sure like it I'm a snake guy and turtle guy if I ever won $1000000 I'd have a hole apartment full of turtles and snakes LOL
Hey Noah! As always, love the videos. I had a question for you. I've been uploading all my herping data to herpmapper but 90% of the records for my county are from me. Is there a better place to record findings or do people still use herpmapper?
People definitely use Herpmapper but it’s mostly herp people. And unless you live in a popular county, it wouldn’t surprise me to find out you’re the only person uploading from there. iNaturalist gets more uploads from non-herp people.
@@NKFherping thank you! I suppose I'll continue to use herpmapper then simply because I like the format and on my phone it's easy to look back on my records. Keep up the amazing content and God bless!
The DeKay's Brown snake is a good looking little guy. Do they stay on the small side? Don't think I've ever seen a Smooth Earth Snake. I have to wonder how many thousands and thousands of snakes I've walked by without knowing they were there. I do know I see turtles, and turtles, and turtles, like crazy down here in Florida. See Mud turtles all over the place while fishing. Snappers and Red Ear, I also saw a Pygmy Rattler down here... Only once but it was really cool little guy. it was on a concrete drive way when I saw it.
Are you placing all these pieces of tin in these locations, or is there just an epidemic of tin littering in Georgia? I lived briefly in Northeast Georgia. How is the herping in Jackson County?
My mother and aunt were fishing in Eastern Alabama back in the early 60’s. They were walking along the bank of a dam created lake and met a game warden heading the opposite direction. Almost immediately after passing him, they heard two gun shots. Two coral snakes were apparently following them and the game warden shot them. It seems somebody had been bitten by one a few days earlier.
I can't believe I've never seen all those small snakes you guys find,, ring necks and I've already forgotten tne name of the shinny brown one. Been outdoors in Kentucky all my life and of course have seen a few snakes but nothing like you guys find. I've never really looked but still... I did identify this rat snake correctly after watching a few vids.
I once caught a hybrid gray rat corn snake most beautiful snake I've ever seen the next day here in Florida I caught is 3 foot monitor lizard rainbow from Australia and he lived under my house for 5 years
That is a beauty of a Rat Snake. Not sure I would have been able to identify that one. Wonder if the eye problems you find are due to shedding issues or what?
How do u know which snake is which and live ur videos btw there very informational and they have inspired tmr to set out my own tin and keep a check on like every two weeks
I mentioned you in a video. Because after watching your channel I started my critter list too. Underwater critters, not reptiles like yours, but still.
I’ve been watching you for about 3 months and yesterday I finally decided to get up and go herping. I flipped for 2 hours and hiked around and ended up finding nothing. Can you please do a tutorial on how to hike for snakes? I also live in north ga near Ballground
What were you flipping, rocks and logs? I mean I think if you can find man made piles or stacks of metal, construction supplies, etc that helps. And not always, but a nearby water source tends to be useful for finding things. But not necessarily always the case... I live in California and water sources can be few and far between. But when I lived in the mountains/desert here, the most animals were caught or found by our pool! Tarantulas, garter snakes, red bellied snakes, blue tailed skinks, gopher snakes (and gophers lol). The snakes laid eggs in flower beds by the pool. I guess they're still attracted to the water even with chlorine. And then down by the creeks and ponds we'd find frogs and crayfish. Keep trying!
They’re not too bad this time of year. I get a few here and there, but that’s part of the reason I wear sandals and shorts, I feel them when they start crawling so I hardly ever get bit.
You can take Sulphur pills, after a few days, they want bother getting on you. But, you will smell like rotten eggs when you sweat.... I know someone that took Sulphur when he was collecting plant species for his Master's Degree, no ticks .....
Hello NFK. I have been watching your channel recently. Very interesting. We live in upstate South Carolina. Recently a 4 foot Kingsnake has taken up residence in our backyard I am fine with it , but, it is driving my better half crazy. I fear that I am going to have to catch him and take him elsewhere. They way you are hand catching this critters is really something. I want to catch him, put him in a pillow case and take him elsewhere. I am somewhat nervous about possibly being bitten . Any advice?
Nice find!!! I have been lucky enough to find quite a few snakes and had my camera in hand to post to my RU-vid. Now that's lucky!!! Great. Video and thanks for sharing this. LocStar Naturalist
