This week I’m touring the Ultimate Mobile Home, a Beneteau Oceanis 50. Last week I made a comparison between manufactured homes, marinas and sailboats and this week I’m in Panama visiting my in-laws and touring their “mobile” home. That was so much fun. The boat is beautiful and what a great experience to live on it for 12 days. The scenery is certainly more beautiful than most mobile home parks. Happy for you to have some quality time with your family. Thanks for sharing..

Beautiful boat. It looks quite spacious. I would assume a boat of this size would have a higher price tag than a mobile home. I’m glad you’re able to see the in-laws. Thank you for sharing this experience with us.

A 55' Beneteau is probably sub $1M, with even models of less than five or six years old in the sub $500K range. As with anything, depreciation after you take it off the lot, or out of the marina for the first time. Some of them are appreciating in value, though, although not by a lot. Maintenance and upkeep are way more expensive, though.

Memories of good if not challenging times. Berthed there in 2010 in prep for the canal run and then departing on the South Pacific Milk Run. This marina offers an escape from much that is broken and/or marginally organized in the Zone. We missed our son by one week when he brought 'his boat' to the nearby anchorage - a Navy Frigate.

Thats so cool. My inlaws have made it across to the the pacific side and are prepping to go to the South Pacific in March. They were in Bocas fro 5 or 6 months so if you want more trips down memory lane they have a great channel: Sailing Gargoyle.

@@KerryTarnow Galaps in Feb/Mar, arriving Marquesas in April after the Cyclone Season ends, and on it goes. They will have a wonderful time...and urge you to ask them to host you two when they arrive in Australia. A bucket list destination, Kerry.

Haha yeah it was cool! They weren’t there at the time I think they were visiting Kazza’s family. My in laws ran into them on the dock a couple weeks before though.

I wouldn't buy a monohull, I'd be looking at a catamaran. More living space, better rough sea handling, better comfort in a sea. Also, easier to sail, usually. Look at 'Sailing Zatara', 'Gone with the Wynns', 'Sailing Ruby Rose', 'Sailing Kiwis' and there are others out there. If you can afford it, and if you like adventure, and if you can figure out which countries you can go to in the COVID-closed world, sailing is a great way to live, if you believe the videos of others. But, it's also not without its drawbacks. You need to have a lot of money, or a good income stream, to be able to afford to do it.
