If I make it until Christmas Day, I'll be 28 years off the meth. I mainlined a bunch of it. The cool thing is that I just turned 55 in August, so I've been off the needle for over half of my life. Recovery is possible. You have to want it. If it's worth having, it's worth working for. Merry Christmas y'all.
I want to thank everyone who has been reaching out and being so kind to me. I was really nervous to do this video, but I felt it was important to show others struggling that it’s possible to get sober no matter what you’re addicted to. Congratulations to everyone who celebrated even one day sober today and to those who are still fighting just know that I understand it feels impossible but there’s people all over the world that will help you if you want out. Thanks again for all the love, I definitely don’t deserve it but it means the world to me ❤
Congratulations ma’am. I live on a Mtn in Bama and work on the other Mtn that ran up from Meth mountain. You’d never think it but it goes on there. A few months ago a man was walking around the roads geeked out carrying a ball bat. They found him dead later on that day in a house behind where I work with a gunshot wound. Stay safe.
Lovin this kid’s interview style. No BS, just wanting to hear all the facts. He asked around 15 straight questions and got some excellent answers. Well done.
Shout out to the local firefighter that said he has job related PTSD. That takes a lot of courage to admit it, as that’s half the battle. I hope he gets the help he needs for that.
@@slycarlo8747 Totally normal for a firefighter in his career. We’ve all been there. Seen it all. Like I said, its a little odd. He wears it like a badge though. Especially on tv.
Loved watching this video. You have young people with their heads on straight. Reminds me of my life, working mom, drunk dad, I started down a bad road but I met my wife. Been married 21 years and doing the right thing.
Dude actually flowed better than most the folk you end up approaching. Edit: thank you everyone I usually don't get noticed here lol. God willing, I pray he did escape the struggles he mentioned, and genuinely hope he is sober, especially in an environment with constant temptation.
Accurate reporting that captures the scope of a situation fairly is hard to do. I really feel your desire to stay balanced throughout this video. Thanks. Well done!
Exactly, he was very fair, decent and honest in the way he showed the place and the people. As I have noticed before, some of these run down areas have the best people in the country living there.
Thank you for an awesome story ..I was on meth ,awhile ago ,going thru family problems and found so called friends , but now I'm been sober for 14 yrs. And happily living life now. It is an dangerous drug . Thank you for your video .
I remember several years ago heroin addiction destroyed my life, I suffered from severe depression and a mental disorder until I was recommended to psilocybin mushroom treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly I'm 8 years clean now. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.
To be honest, mushrooms are one of the most amazing things on the planet and it is natural, they serve in many ways not only for mental related issues.
Can you help me with a reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. It is very hard to get a reliable source here in New Zealand. Really need!
Yes, Sporeville. I had the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and addiction... Mushrooms definitely made a huge difference to why I'm clean today.
I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He's 59 & has many mental health issues plus probably CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD knows if it is common for an obsession with violence.
@@packers12to80speaking for myself; he goes out and talks to people on both sides of issues and lets them tell their story. You’re not going to find any mainstream news or interview program that is going to do this, and definitely not in an unbiased(or mostly unbiased) way, if they attempt to at all. He might not solve the issues but that’s not a reporter or documentarian’s job.
I live at the foot of meth mountain in Fort Payne, AL. I have lived here for 20 years, and I haven't met anyone who lives here who hasn't been affected by meth either directly themselves or intimate family member. I have a friend who died recently from the effects of fentanyl in the meth. This is a thing for sure.
My wife and I left empire and Jasper for that very reason. There was a mid-level dealer that tested 5 different. Batches of meth from different deliverers and she said all 5 batches had traces of fentanyl. We have so many friends that died in Jasper and empire
@@chucklee347 Such a shame they had to ruin such a good thing. I know a few people that won''t touch any drugs these days just because they have ruined them with Fentanyl. These people are not addicts. Just enjoy the buzz at a concert or two a year.
I too live in North Alabama. I'm not sure why they wanted to get that dig in at Trump during the beginning of this video but in my nearly 50 years of life I can damn sure tell you that Biden is by far the worst POTUS I've ever seen and it's not even close! Think what you will about Trump, that's fine and I get it but Biden?! Really? The man is out of his mind and has done nothing of significance for anyone.
Ehh, I’m from Attalla. Fort Payne isn’t anywhere near the mountain, do not lie to yourself. Fort Payne is a nice city, please don’t try anything. I literally live in the valley, and have never seen meth in my entire life.
As someone from north alabama this was awesome! That kid with the red hair really was quick and high iq. It's crazy these sorts of talented people exist from where i grew up and I had no clue about. Respect.
I’m from glencoe 5 mins from east Gadsden man it’s different down there moved out once I got my finances right and ain’t looked back I just hope the same for the rest of my family I only go back if it’s absolutely necessary nothing but trouble back that way and I never touched ice.
You're a good man Tommy! Keep it going and I am now a subscriber! I really like your videos too, you are very talented in winning people's trust and letting them open up!
The way you speak to people, no matter who they are, makes my heart happy. You are such a clever, articulate guy. Plus, you must have big balls cos you go to some real sketchy places. Tommy G, you are awesome. Keep doing what you do. Love from London UK NW10 🇬🇧 ❤
i was honestly slightly scared to even watch this but this was such a respectful documentary. thank you tommy it means a lot to anyone using/have used. you didnt paint users as terrible people or inhumane like most do. 3 months clean today
I used it for 3 months was the worst 3 months I ever had. I used too much and went into psychosis. 7 days away thought aliens were landing. Terrible drug. Dunno how people keep using its horrible
I was a meth monster from the end of my teens to my 30s then kicked it. Wasn't until an injury that the dealer in the white coat introduced me to Oxys and Fentanyl. It wouldn't be until I turned 5o that I got completely clean (no booze or Rxs either). Kickin after 14 years of Fentanyl+ nearly killed me and I had to be medically monitored as blood was coming out of 3 holes. Forget kids...whatever feels like a rush or can make you accomplish something better or quicker will ALWAYS bite you in the end. Work hard/Eat & Rest Well and you can do anything.
@@Brodie1906 quite alright my friend, yours to keep. I don't have answers or solutions to anything I haven't experienced. It's why I'm always interested in that of others. Be well.
Just happened to find this channel. You're an fantastic interviewer and your respect for these people is palpable. You care about the people you're meeting. Just be careful out there. No content is worth dying for. Especially when your future looks bright and successful. Respect and empathy for other's will carry you to great heights. Helping people is the greatest antidepressant. Keep up the great work. ❤ from Canada. I loved the definition of a "holler". I somehow knew it was low land but this was funny and enlightening. Thanks.
Two years ago I took a road trip through this area and ended up on the Little River Canyon Rim Pkwy. It was a midweek day and we seemed to be the only car on the drive. After a few miles and a couple stops for pictures, I noticed an old 1980s Pontiac that seemed to be following us. I pulled off a final time to see if he would follow, and he did. I immediately cut a u-turn and passed right past him and saw one of the most gaunt, methed out faced I've ever seen, gawking at us. Needless to say that was the last stop we made. Not sure what that man's intentions were, but the idea that the hills have eyes in these parts is very true.
@@densonfletcher8612 This is a public scenic drive through a state park territory. Why would they be checking to see who I was? That sounds like meth-addict behavior to me...
@@iggiewalsh2237 tf he supposed to do? He does what he can and gives us an inside look on things you’d never experience, he tries to make things better but he can only do so much
Thank you for covering this story Tommy it is so important it's talked about. I feel like nobody does I moved across the US to get sober off m3th 5 years clean now. I wish there was more I could do to help... so thank you for spreading awareness and giving voices to many! Bless you! ❤️ 🙏
I’m sorry to say .. the US is not a good place to move solely if you’re trying to get off of meth. It’s around every corner. But more power to you if you were able to get off 🙏
Brilliant documentary. You've captured the harsh reality of the meth crisis, it's both heartbreaking and eye opening. It's important to bring light to issues like these that are affecting a great percentage of our society.
You and Arab are the best journalists that I've seen so far in decades. I remember when the mainstream media did stuff like you and him, but those days are long gone. I'm glad I came across your videos.
Nothing wrong with green pal, it can be rehab for the mind and soul combined with good appetite, pray and listening to good music like Clapton or Peter Gabriel, Emerson Lake and Palmer. Good vibes and good lyrics that warm you and not leave you feeling depressed or In emotions like a lot of today’s garbage promotes. ✌️
I struggle with alcohol regularly; different beasts but I hear you brother. Please keep on with sobriety and it’s okay to live in recovery. You know the vibes baby crush shit day by day
Wow, I'm 1 county over. It's pretty cool to see someone come to bama. I understand the real mission. Awareness of what's going on in our cities. Praying for our country🙏
@@maxwalsh234 so you wanna lock up the one person who can make america great? do you not see what chomo joe has done to this country? you must have been born from pre c um
Originally from RI - found myself settling in Scottsboro, AL temporarily after I got back from overseas during the pandemic and visited my parents in Mentone, AL. I probably hear the term "meth mountain" at least once a month. Alabama is beautiful and I highly recommend checking out the southern way of life versus where I come from up North - it's definitely got some perks. But just like everything that is beautiful in life, there's also the ugly side - whereas pills and heroin wreaked havoc on everyone I grew up with in Rhode Island, down here pills and methamphetamine seem to have taken just as many lives. Nowadays it looks like fentanyl is killing everyone everywhere. I'm glad I made it out alive over 10 years ago. Awesome episode and glad to see Sweet home Alabama getting the coverage even if it isnt the best. Go check out Burrillville, RI next.
Tommy G. Dang great video, very informative I live north of there. I remember hearing about the homicide and that situation(s). Where I worked didn't pass on much information on that or even have any concerns regarding meth situation. The F.D. I know had to deal with a few cases from it though.
Wife & her family are from the area. I’ve heard how bad it is there. We live in Florence (she moved with her mom here as a pre-teen) & so glad she was fortunate enough to get away, as her half-sisters didn’t 😞 Glad you are clean and doing well!
I respect your hustle and your passion for the real truth keep it up brother! Love the content you are extremely talented with uncomfortable interviews mad love 🙏🏻💪🏻
That was extremely entertaining. Tommy, this is my first video to watch of yours and it was done superbly. I will definitely check out your site and become a fan . You have a thirst for knowledge and you asked all the right questions. I'll see you at your other videos.

HE EFFORTLESSLY ADAPTS TO THE ENVIRONMENTS HE STUMBLES IN TO AND ITS SIMPLY A JOY TO WATCH! AND TO SEE IT ALL MATERIALIZE OVER THE LAST YEAR OR TWO IS COOL AF TO WATCH!! THERE'S NO OTHER CHANNEL LIKE IT ON RU-vid. IT KEEPS THE AUDIENCE TUNED IN AND GETS BETTER AND BETTER EACH VIDEO. LIKE WHERE OH WHERE WILL TOMMY G GO NEXT? LOL😂 IVE BEEN SUBBED FROM THE BEGINNING!! I’m in Oklahoma now but I grew up just up from sand valley and it breaks my heart to see my stomping grounds going down hill and now called meth mountain. I grew up on rockledge rd and Gazaway rd on the mountain. I hope God will work through these guys and help to turn the area around…
This is legit in my top 5 channels. I lived most of the scenarios that i see on this channel and its actually real life. And anyone in addiction is only one day away from recovery, never forget that
I was just home in alabama for holiday in December, if you want to keep looking into this speegle mountain near my home town of cullman is also called meth mountain
Man, I appreciate your contact and what she got through... I've had 7 levels of fusions in my spine and multiple surgeries. I was oblivious to addictions and how prescription painkillers affect people until I was finally feeling pretty good after about 6 years of recovery from the surgeries and fusions but I had absolutely no clue how horrible it would be to get away from pain meds. Doctors and books claim you can just taper, easy peasy and symptoms are flu like which is the biggest lie ever told!!! Problem is, doctors who haven't experienced it believe what they were told. Flu-like for about a week, can't kill you, etc. Absolute BS thrown out by the big pharma companies so they can sell their product. Then when you actually try to get some help with it, the doctors step around the door and giggle with their nurses about the junkie, addict in there. Police do the exact same thing while someone is literally puking and shaking to death in their cells like they all brought it on themselves and they are so far above that! It is truly disgusting as they laugh while they watch people die and then act surprised or pretend it must have been something else. It is easy to see how people who have been severely injured and given pain meds turn to the street after they get nothing but ridiculed and treated as junkies by the same community who prescribed it in the first place. The only thing they do is send people to a "Pain Clinic" where they keep them going so people don't get sick and if they decide they want to get away, these doctors just get pissed off and cut them off cold turkey to "Teach them a lesson about who is in control" until they come back and start padding pockets again. What is really interesting is that doctors get people on suboxone and methodone to get them off things like morphine and oxycodone which as the guy you interviewed said is probably worse to get off than anything...
It also depend on the addictive traits you inherited from your family , which is certainly true. Like a curse. Glad to hear you could make amends. God bless.
I appreciate that ❤️ my story is very similar to yours, was given pain pills legitimately and realized everything that I was upset about before the surgery all the sudden didn’t matter because I was emotionally numb. If I had gotten therapy or just talked about my feelings I would’ve avoided 8 years of wrecking my body and mind. But we got out and that was a big reason I did the video, I want to destigmatize addiction and recovery because people will never want help if it comes with even more judgment and strings attached as in the streets. Thank you for sharing your story with me. XOXO
I was a police officer in Gadsden for nearly 15 years. Most of the people where you were at at ok to deal with. You almost really messed up going to Gadsden tho. It can get super dangerous if you find yourself in the wrong neighborhood. They use to stop cars in the road on 4th ave and rob them.
That sir is a fact. I wouldn't feel too uncomfortable anywhere around sand mountain. Of course watch your step. But 4th Ave....different story. You have to go thru there you better be moving.
Methadone saved my life. Got me out of addiction and able to have a stable life and even start and run my own business. People like the guy at the end sayin stop supplying suboxone and methadone will never get out alive until they realize its not suboxone or methadones fault its his own fault that he is where he is. Noone ever heals til they take responsibility.
100%, he had the wrong message. He was high, what else would you expect... been there, sober 5 years, though i didnt do meth, mine was painkillers for a long time. I grew up an hour from where this video was shot, meth mountain is no joke. all the way from gadsden to huntsville and all 4 corners. South alabama is pretty bad too.
Isn't that basically legal drugs? Hate to break it to you, but your life isn't saved yet until you get off everything. I heard that is harder to get off than H and street opiates
No, one gets you high [H, opiates] and suboxone does not. Anything in pill form is technically considered "drugs". even aspirin, so in that case 99% of the world uses drugs.@@jimbojones9118
@@jimbojones9118 wrong bud i own my own business my life is a complete 180 from where i was when i was doin heroin. My life is stable thats what matters most. And if you taper off right its not bad at all i did it so u can shut the fuck up and not speak on things you know nothing of.
I was a meth cook for 5 years I'm not proud of it at all! I was arrested and I was sentenced to 5 years to the florida department of corrections.. I say all this to make people aware that this stuff is terrible and it will kill you! If your on it I pray for you, don't go down the dark road I went down. I pray for everyone
This was pretty tough to watch. I'm from Birmingham and spent a lot of time in the darker areas of Pell City this really does paint the perfect picture for what goes on out here in central Alabama. God bless America, and stay sober Alabama.
My great grandpapa Lacey lived on Arlie Lacey Rd which is named after him on Sand Mountain, I use to visit my great grandparents there a lot, it was such a wholesome place.
Listen, if you're going to do it, please just buy a rubber hose 20 foot long with a $10 wet and dry aquarium pump on the end, vent the hydrogen out the rooftop or top floor window, and PLEASE just buy a $2 plastic blow off valve set to 40-50 psi. You don't need higher pressure than that, and you don't need to hand burp the bottle.
Salutations! I have lived in Attalla my entire life, and I have never heard of it as “Meth Mountain”, nor have I met anyone ever on meth or showing signs of addictions to meth. I’m sorry to say, but most of this is completely unknown to people in Attalla. I live in the valley, and never have I seen anything suspicious or such. Sure there’s a bunch of destroyed houses or such, but that is because Alabama suffers from poverty. I am always delighted to see people talking about my town, due to its small size of population and popularity. I can guarantee you with my entire heart that 40% of people here are not on meth. This video does slightly hurt the pride of my people, though. Also, if any of you decide to come visit Sand Valley, the old church he showed is a poke stop, but service doesn’t work back here, eh.
As someone who took Adderall for 7 years to help me through school, I'm happy there's someone shedding light on the big pharma situation. I have permanent side effects that I suffer from everyday because of what Adderall did to my body. Don't let doctors and pharmacists tell you what's best for your body, or your children. Especially without enough research first.
@@lordrichard64 It’s the lesser of two evils. If he took it for 7 years of school that means he most likely started when he was 15, way before his brain/ body would be fully developed. Strong, daily stimulants at that age is going to fuck you up and have long term consequences
I’ve been on prescribed Suboxen now for 3 years.I had a lumbar fusion failure in 09’ and since then I’ve been on every legal pain medication there is…..including Fentanyl & Methadone. This Suboxen seems to work the best for me. When you take it responsibly it can be a positive life changer.
As a fellow North Alabamian we’ve heard about this place our whole lives. (I have at least) It’s wild seeing this on RU-vid. I appreciate you covering it.
hey tommy! i was watching your video on “meth mountain” in attalla, alabama and noticed you had made a stop in gadsden! as lauren had mentioned it is a very sketchy area and is completely different compared to attalla. the drug, crime, murder rate and gang activity in gadsden is CRAZY. the night life and street life here is pretty wild. gadsden jail (etowah county jail) made two seasons on “60 Days In” because of how bad the environment is here. there is a upcoming rap group that is located here as well. it would be so neat if you could come speak to some locals and shed more light on gadsden and raise awareness on the violence and activity that goes on here!
My wife’s family is from that area. Her half sister just “got clean” after 11 years on meth - following the death of her son at age 20 due to a lumberyard accident (where a methhead was high on the job & let an 800lb log fall off the back of a truck and crush him). My wife was about to head back down to Attala for his wake & help her sister clean up her home. Due to her getting COVID, we both were in quarantine when it happened & she had to cancel the trip…the day before her sister got caught trafficking $76,000 worth of meth & meth-making chemicals for the illicit purpose of manufacturing methamphetamine (not exactly sure that’s how the charge is labeled but the jist of it). Every single person in her car on the way to the wake is now facing 20+ years in prison plus fines none of them will ever have the ability to pay back. Just thankful my wife has officially cut ties with them.
I'm from Gadsden but lived in Ft. Payne and Rainsville for years and remember sand mountain always referred to as meth mountain. It was so sad to see 👀
I lived there for about 5 years. It was so crazy for me to see how a majority of the population was on meth. It’s literally insane. I’d go through a drive thru and the person at the window was obviously on meth. It’s really sad honestly.
the police must be completely useless with the lack of public social safety net. you cant prevent crimes unless you make sure peoples basic needs are being met by any means possible.
