I was one of the people that got sick from chlorine exposure at this place. For whatever reason they were putting significantly more chlorine in the water then what was necessary. You could smell it from the parking lot before even entering. We were only in the water park area maybe an hour and had to leave because I was so sick. My eyes and skin were burning so bad and I couldn’t stop throwing up. I’ve never been sick like that before. This place definitely had potential for being awesome, but whoever was running it had no idea what they were doing.

Chlorine is no joke. When i was a kid a train derailed and there was a chlorine gas spill. Alberton, MT. It was horrible. The town was evacuated for weeks and it even killed a person.

Seeing this made me tear up yall…. I had my 14th bday party here in 2008… place was soo clean & fun when it first opened.. we had a BALL here. I remember when the pool shut down for the night. I worked here when it first opened. It pretty much went downhill the day it opened. You were looking for the stairwells to the hotel floors, the door is actually outside the hotel. They emptied to the outside, which was an issue with guests. Kids would go down the stairs, in their bathing suits, in the middle of winter, not knowing they exited outside. Then to get back in, you needed a room key card, which most kids did not have. Working there provided me with so many stories.

Thank you for posting! I'm always fascinated by abandoned stuff like this, and this is the most in depth look of this place I've seen. It's amazing how much stuff is just left behind! Great Wolf of Kalahari could definately get those slides working again, especially since the Sandusky Great Wolf is desperately missing that star attraction. I may not be the biggest fan of the intended theme (then again, I ride coasters almost uncritically so I'll admit to being a hypocrite there) but I'd spend a night here for the spookiness of staying in an abandoned hotel factor. If you want to do urbex together sometime, I'd be happy to meet up.

Place is 7 minutes from my house. Lived in central Ohio most of my life. I drive by it all the time. Never got a chance to go, but there are other places in Ohio similar that have been open forever and never had issues like this. I can't believe how incredible it is inside the water park. Insanely clean for being abandoned for years...and the owners are pure trash and owe the city way too much money. A guy is trying to buy it so he can turn the hotel into a legitimate affordable housing place. He's done it to many abandoned hotels for years and it works. I hope it goes through because it needs to be revitalized into something good. Thank you for going in and showing it to us. Incredible channel, incredible people. Soo sad seeing these types of places close up and become abandoned. Kind of surprised to see power on in part of the complex. Judging by the look of the place the water park could be cleaned up, resolve the hotel issues and make a whole new place out of it. 59:00 wonder if the smell was from the water damage from the pipe bursting up on one of the top floors. If so, that's quite a few floors worth of damage.

It was always so warm in there when I went. Plus, with all of the excited squeals of kids and water running, the sound of the highway was severely dampened. I loved the hot tub, the slide that pops out and into the building, and the funnel. I think there was also a lazy river (which are always the best at a Waterpark 😊.) Pretty sure the first empty rooms led to locker rooms.

We were there in 2015 2 years before they closed. The heat was broken and it was cold AF in the building especially where the water was. Even the pool water couldn't be heated. It was -20 out. We initially chalked it up to being because of how cold it was. Until a few months later when we saw one of many articles about the heat and that they failed their inspection that year for many issues regarding sanitation.

Drive past it all the time on I 70. I remember going there for meetings at work. I remember them building the water park addition. It seems that those buildings depreciate after ten years or so, they get sold then the new owners let it go to waste. Don't want to spend the money to maintain it.

Places like this don't last because "new owners" only want to pinch every last dime out of it without doing any maintenance or paying staff well. I worked at a place like this. The owner was handed it from his father. He was repeatedly told about the lack of ventilation in the Holidome. He finally upgraded after we told his wife that the ceiling in one of the rooms collapsed. After i left, they let people have a pool party and one of the unregistered guests got caught underwater and died. Idiots managed the place. This place looks to be in good condition and could be refurbished and rebranded.

We went here in 2010, and I reserved the romantic wedding anniversary package. I was suppose to have flowers and chocolates in the room. Nope. Went to the water park only to get stuck on a slide and our eyes burning of chlorine. This was in the span of 30 minutes. Waited over 30 minutes for an elevator, it was jammed packed with people and we were forced to wait for another 35 minutes. So we’re hungry and we sat at the bar for food that smelled rotten. Tried room service, only to have it cold with no silverware. The next day No breakfast at the restaurant when I was specifically told they are not seating anyone else. When I did pay for it in the package deal. Tried to get my money back and was told by a VERY rude manager “No!” And we walked right out and on the phone with the BBB

Does anyone happen to have a photo from back in the day when the pool (with the saloon background 38:21 in the video) was filled and working??? I have searched every single photo on Google including blogs and their official FB page and cannot find one! I’d really appreciate it 💕 Great video!!!

Cool explore of this water park I can understand why this place closed down when you have also a hotel you need to keep the rooms spotless and clean even the beds etc even the water park would need to be spotless sounds like the management didn’t care having the place spotless clean.

I've been to this spot twice with family and it was a great time the first time, while the 2nd time was questionable. 2nd time I thought water was a lil yellow and the chlorine was really high in the water.

Imagine the exercise the kids would’ve got running up and down the stairs to try each slide… Now they’re probably just sitting at home playing video games Sad really

I worked there in 2007 before it was bought by the new owners that didn't care about the uptake. It was so nice and clean. I wish they would use our tax money to at least fix it up. The only thing is it'll cost 6 to 7 million to fix.

When I went there as a kid even when it was still open they would block off certain slides and once I hit my head really hard on a slide and then they had to block it off and there would be cockroaches and just nastiness
