I want to tell you a story. A story about a loving couple and their dream home
Elliot And Martha wanted to live on a farm with their 5 children. In 1915 they had purchased a large plot of land to build their dream Colonial Mansion to suit their family. Later on Elliot and Marthas Son Sam inherited the home with his wife Jean. Sadly in 2012 Both Sam and Jean passed away just 3 months between each other. In the time that the couple lived in the mansion the property was used as a Christmas tree farm that closed for good in 2018 when the property was bought by a construction company for $15,000,000 dollars. It is unclear what will happen to the beautiful home as there have been rumors of demolition in the near future. join me today as we explore this amazing mansion.

We are in the process of buying a Colonial home and it’s so beautiful. I refuse to buy a new build, same with my partner. He loves the old architect just as much as me, there’s just so much charm and character in old homes.

I believe old houses were built to last very long. Architectural aspect is rare nowadays. But please comment if I'm mistaken.

The separate section "Whole other house" section, I believe would have been for the servants. My brother has a house (over 100 years old) with a separate section like that. The smaller staircase would have been used by the servants to get to the dining /kitchen area.

Yup, as soon as he opened the door to the "second house"...that is the first thing that passed my mind. It is the servant quarters with the back stairs for their use. Beautiful home to say the least, so very sad to see it destroyed.

I’m guessing with all the keys, it was once a B&B. Someone needs to buy it and turn it back into a B&B. Looks like the foundation might need to be fixed but it doesn’t seem to be too bad. I would turn it into a B&B/wedding venue. I would definitely contact the historical preservation society with this house being as old as it is. The construction company are idiots for wanting to tear it down.

Yes definitely. It could have been a B&B. I would definitely reach out to your county and see if there’s someone who you can contact. Here in Canada often houses will be deemed as a heritage house and they cannot be demolished. However they can be turned into something else. There is a house here for sale in my town that I eventually want to purchase to turn into a spa.

This house was never a B&B. A house this size has a lot of doors and locks. Many of the keys were for GM automobiles not the house.

it really is; bankers and financiers aren't concerned with beauty though, they just need to make a new development with ugly dwellings. they'll trot out some twaddle about 'money and upkeep and repair too expensive' and people will repeat their garbage explanations while our choices more and more become soulless squares built with angles of sorrow.

If the do demolish this house I hope they are saving more than that door with the green tape on it. The windows, the built in cabinets, the doors, the molding, the mantles of the fireplaces, the door knobs, hinges, there's so much that can be reused in other old homes that people are restoring.

Dude, the range on the left at 16:13 is a Frigidaire Flair range from the 60s. It’s worth real money in that condition. You should try to buy it from the developer.

Ala' Bewitched. Samantha Stevens used a Flair to cook on in the TV series! They go for ALOT of money!! I was so excited to see that in that kitchen. It looks like bathrooms and kitchens were renovated in the 60's perhaps?

When my parents died, we sold the house, and my brother took the stove. It had a matching metal storage cabinet underneith. My cousin has a Flair like that in Wisconsin they still use daily

One closet/storage room on third floor, appeared to be a cedar closet. With a home of this magnatude I'm sure there were a lot of people there, even at different times. Proper bedding would always include plenty of quilts and aphgans and winter fur coats also kept stored safely from insects and mice, lol. Just a quick look is all you have but it's what struck me as you openef the door.

Thanks for sharing the tour, very interesting! Those wood closets were cedar closets & very popular decades ago. Cedar removes moisture from the air, so in humid climates, it acts as a natural dehumidifier keeping clothes from developing mildew. The house definitely had quarters for its staff, often you see small staircases for help too. That was a bidet. Bidets were invented back in 1600's. Sad to see it get demo'd.

Cedar is an effective moth repellent. Wools and other natural fibers would be cleaned, brushed and stored in cedar closets during the summer to make room for summer clothing. Did you notice the closets are not as large as in new homes? People did not consume and discard clothing like they do now. It would be stored seasonally (thus the massive cedar closet) and passed down through the children, or servant's children or donated to charity shops.

The video wasn't long enough (could have spent at least an hour there filming)! The toilet and sink by the front door is called a "powder room" for guests and visitors (powder rooms are bathrooms without a bathtub or/and a shower). The smaller kitchen was for the family and the bigger one was industrial which was used for parties with many guests. The second floor with a door adjacent to another bed room was a nursery (note the toy train wallpaper) as the mother (or servant) could get into that room without going through the hallway. Many Victorian women had their own bedrooms separate from their husbands. The room on the second floor with the storage cabinets could also have been the dressing room (a room to dry off after bathing and have the clothes ready, especially if it had a laundry chute door somewhere in it). The "other house" was there servants quarters with their own bathroom and kitchen. Very rich people built this house!

Love this house. Colonial has always been my favorite. 1 request 4 u. Slow your roll a little and enjoy the architecture. Older homes always have high. Window counts. Some times the glass is a little wavy. Love 2 explore with u though u seem 2 find the most unusual housed😁

My grandmother would have been 5 years old when this house was built . It is amazingly in good shape for it's age . I know if you start looking for weakness in places you would find it . The wallpapers blow my mind. Imagine how many tiny homes could be built with the lumber , windows ,doors , bathroom fixtures and the amazing wood from the floors.

Watch the movie The Money Pit. Likely there is so much wrong with it, there could be mold, rotting wood, bad pipes, heating/cooling issues, it would honestly take millions to fix these. A lot of it isn't up to code. I think millionaires today want everything modern sadly.

Thinking maybe if it wasn't demolished independing on what condition it's in from what we could see I wouldn't mind buying just a house and the small lot around it they can have the rest of the land

What a stunning home. I appreciate the delicate design of the wallpaper; someone was intentional with that selection as it's easy on the eye. This home should be preserved and repurposed - it's so elegant. And those sun rooms - amazing!!! Every time I watch these videos I keep saying "If these walls could talk!" Loved the intro to this one. The 2nd floor kitchen and that section most likely was for servants. But the 2 kitchens on the ground floor are odd. Unless they had made the place a bed and breakfast at some point. Or maybe a wedding/reunion venue. But definitely a great look inside.

Yes. This msnsion is old though verywell maintained. I LOVE IT THIS MSNSION WAS SO WELL CARED FOR. NO ABUSE AND NEGLECT FABULOUS COLONIAL. WOW SO LITTLE FIXING TO BE DONE. BTW BIGBENZ THE SMALL BACK SECOND LIL STAIRS R FOR SERVANTS USUALLY A LIL.KITCHEN NEARBY A FEW STAFF SMALL BEDROOMS AND I SAW AS ON SECOND FLOOR. ALSO SOMETIMES THERES A CLOSET AREA OR CUPBOARD THAT WOULD BE A "dum waiter" cookd and staff put food on the shelf or food box and the servants pulled the box up to second or third floors by ropes. Unloaded and let the box down again to main kitchen. 2nd fl had a stove and sink maybe for older ppl re stairs!!! If look close u will find these. Later on DumWaiters got motorized

Quiet motors maybe the dumwaiter was carpeted and insulated... look for these very old attributes ive seen these THIngs UBREX GUYS DONT KNOW THESE THINGS EITHER.. Some people don't want anything with a history. I would move in it is really pretty. Some of the wallpaper is really nice. I really liked the sunrooms. Everything about was really nice. Maybe a bakery or something like that, there was a lot of room to cook. Sort of updated stoves. Great video.

They paid the $15 million just for the property it sits on, not for the house. It'll cost them even more to demo it, so it must be in one heck of a nice location. I can't imagine what it would cost to heat/cool it! I really hope they're at least salvaging everything they can out of it before they demo it. Really sad to lose another beautiful home rather than restoring it, but there could be some serious, unseen issues that we're unaware of too. I'd almost kill for some of those windows, doors & cabinets!

The back staircase inside was for the full-time live-in servants. The smaller bedrooms most likely were for them also. Have you ever watched Downton Abbey on PBS?

Truly amazing! I have to throw my 2 cents in here about the second house. Yes, it may have been for the household staff, but a lot of people of "means" back then would plan the house so that as their children grew and married, they could stay together and still have their privacy. There is an incredible Colonial home like that here in the heart of Lancaster City PA. The Father built 2 huge homes that connect for his daughter and her new family to live.

The House is definitely worth millions. But the 15 million probably encompasses a ton of land that they used to grow Christmas trees on. With All that land the builder can build a ton of homes.

When You said it was Sold to a Developer, I knew what was coming next, There's absolutely no reason why these Homes can't be saved and given to a Homeless American Veteran Family,with all of these abandoned Homes,We could have absolutely single Homeless American Veteran off the streets. I'm thinking that the House had additions added on for like The Parents of either the Husband pr Wife, Colonial doesn't always mean what people think.

I really do like your videos but you need to slow down and film more of the details in rare places like this. You missed so much I was left feeling disappointed. (Why did you not go down the second set of stairs??) It was very rushed. Not trying to bust your chops - you're one of my favorite channels. Good job on the research, commentary, and overall videography. Just slow the pan a bit ;)

That town is ignorant to allow a construction company to demolish a such a jewel. It causes a whole town to loose it’s charm. Town’s zoning laws should not be motivated by money, but by history. In parts of Canada, you are not allowed to even demolish an old wall, keeping a towns history and character. Thank goodness you have documented this homes existence. Gone forever…..so unfortunate

The third level was for servants and the first bedroom has a lock on the outside, where they would lock the girl in. It was found out by a different youtuber. The cost to update the electrical and heating would be enormous, cheaper just to start again. They are building an apartment complex

On the 2nd floor there is a bedroom connected to the bedroom with the blue wallpaper. The connected bedroom had wallpaper with trains. That bedroom was obviously the family's nursery. The section of the 2nd floor, that you call, 'another whole house", with the smaller bedrooms with all the same carpet and a kitchen and a back stairway, was most likely servant's quarters. The first little. “kitchen”, before the larger kitchen, is a butler’s pantry. The larger one with the, “industrial stuff”, is the actual kitchen. In mansions where people entertained a lot and had large parties, they had more, “industrial” type kitchens. The, “metal’, counter tops are stainless steel.

The industrial kitchen was probably for the help, wish you'd have gone down the 2nd stair case, it probably came out by the kitchen as the "second home" was more then likely the helps quarters... Beautiful home, it should be saved..

Butlers pantry- hired hand quarters- maids and family’s- that last room looked like a place to clean the chickens - they probably maid their own sausage-- etc. etc. etc. I think I’ve asked you to learn more about the job you have chosen , cause your pretty in mature about everything! Yes by all means contact the historical society of the state where it is. Someone needs to rattle a few doors and keep asking & searching until a restoration Hero steps forward and stops this, it must not be demolished. What a pity it would be. Save it please!

Stunning. I'm surprised there is no historical marker on that house to where it could not be torn down. They probably had servants quarters that's why that odd kitchen on that second floor. That's a cedar closet to store clothes. If they had a tree farm that one bathroom, when you come in by the front door ,may have been for customers to use while they looked for trees on the lot. They may have also sold baked goods... If those walls could talk. Thanks for another great video God bless
