As a civil engineer: glass is NOT a weak material. The problem is that it's not ductile and you can't really visibly see if it's going to break soon, it just kind of happens and that's the end of it. One of the most important things we should ensure as structural engineers is that we see if something gives soon enough, so that we prevent it.
Marques should buy an espresso machine and gift the crew some: how to make coffee courses. That or next hire should be someone with Barista experience willing to share the knowledge.
Back in 2019, I visited San Francisco (I’m from Argentina) and rented a Lime bike to look around Apple Park. While waiting at a traffic light, Tim Cook suddenly appeared crossing the street right there. I panicked and didn't ask for a photo, LOL, but I shouted, "Love you, Tim!" and he responded, "Thank you!" 😂
Having visited Apple Park, I can attest to the coffee situation. There's a whole Caffé Macs with the most elaborate coffee-making equipment I've ever seen.
The best thing i like about the apple park is that you feel one with nature. Not like raw nature but it feels like the tech can advance without harming the nature around idk how to define it. It made me feel good about the future of tech and sustainability, if thats what their goal was then they nailed it.
Man there's so many other secrets of this building that would be cool to share. I was apart of the team that built this building, but darn NDA, but there are some huge names that made parts in this building that no one knows about.
One interesting thing is apparently when Steve Jobs had passed they apparently had left his room untouched as it was the last day he was in the office, I wonder if they re-created that somehow in the new campus or just removed it from the old building or something like that
@@cellsheet There's no way they'd have recreated his messy office in the new campus. Most that would've happened is something names in his honour, eg Steve Jobs Theatre
The glass has wires running in the middle of the black joining pieces running vertical to provide power. The carved handrail in the Steve Jobs theatre is also featured in several stores, namely Regent Street in London. The round pizza box is featured in Apple’s “Underdogs” business RU-vid video series.
Steve Jobs Theater: You are basically correct: Both electricity and /water/ are run through the space between the glass. The lights don't need a ton of wiring, but the are required to have fire suppression systems. The food is overall pretty good. Though, I would say they're overhyping the coffee. It's good, but IMO not great... And while it isn't obvious, there are plenty of non-apple products in 'enterprise-y' roles like room controls, definitely a few PCs in media rooms and specialized labs...
Regards the services in the ceiling of the Steve Jobs Theater, both the electrical wiring and the plumbing for the fire sprinkler system run through the beading between the panes of the glass - the plumbing was specifically designed for this use case, pretty remarkable feat if you ask me, as a mechanical engineer
i used to go to community college a couple blocks out of apple park. all the neighboring cafes in that area would always be packed with students doing work, so my secret study spot was the apple visitor center because they have some nice outdoor tables with shade that no one would really think to go to on a weekday afternoon LOL
For the handrails, at the newer apple stores, they have the same carved stone railings, and I chucked many plastic water bottles down the path. really cool
About the glass walls holding up the roof of Steve Jobs theater, the panels are so strong that even if every other one shattered and disappeared, it would still hold up the roof and not collapse.
You guys are the most vibing team I’ve ever seen ❤ Everyone in the studio is so interesting to watch and just lovely. Marques did a great job in creating this team 🎉😊 You guys rock 🤘🏻
My old office has glass doors like that. We had to put stickers on the glass bc at least once a day you'd just hear "clink" then "bang" as someone walked into it with their coffee mug and then their body
did you know that the glass in Apple Park is self cleaning? lemme explain... in the first stage of the self cleaning process which is called "photocatalytic" a coating in outer layer of the glass reacts with daylight to breakdown organic dirt, then in the second stage "hydrophilic" droplets of rain hits the glass and spreads evenly and washes off the loosened dirt. the glass also designed to dry quickly without leaving watermarks. pretty cool ha?
I used to work for THE only Apple Premium Reseller in my country. When the boss asked which iPhone I was using at that time I felt really ashamed to tell him that it's a Samsung Galaxy S8. He asked: "Why do you want to work here if you don't have iPhone?" That was weird. He also had the same clothing style as Steve Jobs and probably thought he was the man himself.
@@0xbenediktpeople can recommend something that they don't personally want. I don't prefer iPhones, but I can still easily recommend them to the right people
Do you remember Germany largest APR „mStore“ with their HQ in Hamburg and in Berlin at „M&M:Trading“ ? Germans always thought that „Gravis“ was the biggest, but Gravis was only AAR - Apple Authorised Reseller, not Premium Reseller.
Shoutout to golden boy pizza!! You guys should try it the next time you are in San Francisco. Having tried it in SF and NYC, they are pretty comparable to the point where I don't really miss NY pizza. Of course there are fewer good places in SF than in NYC but hey, atleast the weather is great all year round xD
Since you mention people bring non-Apple products to a Apple event. I used to work for a programming tools company back when Sun Microsystems came out with the Java programing language. Sun was one of the most vocal Microsoft sucks companies around worse than Apple. Sun is a maker of Sun Unix workstations and their own OS called SunOS, I get an invite to got to a Sun presentation for some new Java tools. I get their and large hotel conference room and its packed with media and programmer types. The event starts late so when they do start everyone is focused. The presentation has a very Unix look to it and then they have a tech issue and all the screen in the room freese up. They start scrambling to fix tbe problem and it's taking awhile they final say we have to reboot the system but all should be fine afterwards. Next thing coming up on all the screen is Window logos and Windows booting up. People start laughing their asses off. Then you can see they are running Windows presentation software. Very embarrassed they get started again and finished the main presentation and they just say that's it for today. Years later I'm working for a major Sun customer big enough we have Sun sales and tech people onsite all the time, they all had Windows laptops.
The problem is that the handrail ends at the bottom of the flight of stairs pointed directly at the interior glass of the ring. I'm honestly pretty sure they designed it like that to deter people lol
@@vaughnkhouri1364 they just try it with a rubber ball or a ping pong ball, wouldn't be as fun, but much safer and less likely to cause them to be kicked out 😁
This whole experience is made possible due to architects design and the attention to details. I wish architects are mentioned and given due credits for this.
7:19 This was part of one of their event videos for a new chip at some point because some CAD software doesn't run on Mac OS so an iMac was running Windows with the app open.
Not sure if he still does, but my friend's Dad, who's a 2nd or 3rd generation sushi chef from Japan, makes sushi at the employee cafeteria during he day then works at a traditional Japanese restaurant nearby at night.
Just before this video was released, I had actually researched the site, section, and floor plans of Apple Park. Then I saw them being used as one of the elements in the intro animation. Whattt🤯🤯🤯
Hearing the iPhone Tim Cook story is crazy because I just went back to the interview and he's asking Tim questions from an iPhone. I guess he switched devices.
as an architect, i studiesd that building .. shouts out to norman foster for designing it, the cridet is not really for apple but for the amazing architecture firm. but odcourse apple gets in the vivion for the park.
So what waaait the marble thingy no that needs a separate video. Somebody needs to take one for the team (which is us) so we can see the marble go down!
it would be so sick to ONE day just be able to go in there. My new goal? make friends with these guys. Idk what ill provide, BUT DAMMIT I WILL DO SOMETHING TO HELP.
