The $700 wheels aren't *really* intended as a product to be purchased. Don't get me wrong - they sell them and you CAN purchase them, but the wheels exist to psychologically manipulate buyers of a Mac Pro. The default configuration includes the wheels. You can then choose to remove them and "save" $700, so you become convinced that you've gotten a spectacular deal. It's a tactic as old as retail itself.

"they are huge, they're ugly, and they're awful"..... UK plug's/socket's are simply the best: Safer with strong chunky prongs that are shielded where they'd become live, ground on top because gravity, on/off switch to isolate supply and arcing/sparking, fused which is never a bad thing although not required in the US. And they supply higher wattage at the socket. The badly placed socket shown was a poor example to make a point, I'm sure the same could happen anywhere. We do suffer with more bulk, true, and sadly many just stick a UK plug onto their power adapters and call it a day or do it for aesthetic like Apple rather than designing it for the market. But if you want a safe, robust, capable plug/socket to deal with deadly electricity then nothing beats it.

"they are huge, they're ugly, and they're awful" - The UK plugs are the only ones I know of that include a fuse INSIDE the plug that protects everything you plug on the device/power-strip level. Without those you would need to rely on circuit breakers to detect shorts which rarely happens before something actually catches fire. I'm not from UK, but their plugs ARE better. Imagine a power strip can handle at max 2kW before catching fire. The embedded fuse would prevent it from burning, but a 15A circuit breaker, which is 3.4kW would not.

Yes, our sockets tend to wear out after a while because the contractors use the cheap ones and then nobody ever replaces them after they've served their non-respectable life and resort to duck taping plugs into sockets instead of hiring an electrician or learning how to safely do it. On the upside foreign users don't have the folding prongs which I've had where out after a while and a couple almost to go up and smoke and start losing connection. Which at that point I trade the duck head adapter that I'm not using with my mom then proceed to cut it open and splice in an actual cord.

So funny enough, I was a major user of USB on iPad going back to the iPad 4 which I had in school. At my family house, we had suck terrible wifi that everything had to be wired by ethernet for decent use. This included my iPad. I used a iPad 4, with the USB 2.0 connector to a powered USB hub, to a USB-to-Ethernet adapter for years. I continued to use this setup into my iPad Air 2 when my 4 got too slow, and then a major upgrade to 3.0 with my original iPad Pro 12.9 inch. iPads were necessary at my highschool and I kept using my iPad as my daily driver for notes, zoom/teams meetings, and much more through University. I only stopped using most of those when I got the first gen 2018 USB-C iPad pro 12.9in which I still rock today. My first job in highschool and into college was working IT for schools and we managed fleets of iPads and the USB connection was so useful for so many things. I worked at an Apple Store for 8 years until recently and the lightning to usb 3.0 adapter is still in wide use at stores because it supports wired data transfer between lightning iPhones and allows power in for charging during the process. It also allows the phone to work over a wired network provided you use a usb-a to Ethernet adapter and plug into power. I even used it with the old Apple wired keyboards which used to allow you to unlock and interact with an iPhone if the touch screen stopped responding but since iOS started locking out the usb connections if the passcode hasn’t been entered within a certain timeframe that hasn’t really been available.

Something I really appreciate about Apple is that they sell some of this old stuff still. As someone who collects iPods from time to time being able to just go out and buy a first party genuine Apple 30-pin cable is wonderful. Also while EarPods don’t sound as good as some other earbuds at their price point I will argue that they are quite practical. They don’t insert into your ear canal so if you are a person who has difficulty with in-ear buds you’re good. This also means you can easily put them in and take them out of your ears if you are in an environment that requires you to do so often. They don’t bleed sound in any way close to the version of the Apple earbuds they replaced. They also still sound pretty good for what they are. For phone calls, podcasts, audiobooks, and non-critical listening they sound pretty good. Especially for phone calls that microphone is absolutely superior to any wireless alternative.

Others keep a pair around to have a wired option/ headphones that don't need to charge. In South Africa, we have loadshedding. People say the european adapter is better because it's safer due to the fuse and the covering over the prongs. The cover on the prongs has already been done on the american one and just needs to be made standard. The fuse can be made accessible within the device itself, usually in an external power brick like a laptop with a door. Another option is to put it in line in the cable. Really anything to avoid massive connector in a world revolving around portable devices.

I love the earpods with 3.5mm jack. They feel like you're wearing nothing and the sound is more than okay for general use. I use them with my pc connected to a Røde NT-USB.

US citizens honestly don't get to speak on matters regarding wall sockets. Hot wiring appliances to the grid would still be a better solution than what you came up with

Yes, well, at least our power grid works. It would be nice if we could have universal healthcare as well.

I very much value the old stuff they still sell - especially power adapters for older computers! My 2013 MacBook Air refuses to die and why should it? I’m glad I can buy the peripherals I need to keep it going for longer.

I bought the USB Super Drive last year at a pawn shop. I use it on a HP laptop plugged in to a dock. With iTunes for Windows I burn CDs for my car, it works as intended and the Windows drivers were very easy to find and install. I also used it recently to play Call of Duty 4 on disk, it worked perfectly for that as well. I assume there are faster (burning) disk drives available from other manufacturers but the design is what drew me to the product in the first place.

That’s gonna be one hell of an awkward trip going back to Apple to try to get a refund on these items 😂

Apple stores have a14 day no-quibble return policy so it will not be awkward at all.

i am EXTREMELY grateful that apple still sells that 30 pin cable, i collect and restore ipods and all third party cables are really spotty with syncing and file transfers, please never change apple

i am very glad they still sell the earpods with 3.5mm they are the best 3.5 ear buds for the price imo. they also used to come in a kinda meh plastic case so they wouldn't get tangled but thats been since removed for the throwaway paper packaging only

“There’s no sunlight in Apple stores” Quinn almost every modern Apple store has floor to ceiling windows that let sunlight and UV rays pour in 😂 That’s why the plastic seal was yellow and why products in the front yellow before the ones lined up behind do

I don't think they are keeping that thing on the sales floor. I bet they have that in the way way way back. hahahaha

I bought one of these superdrives last month from CEX (£25) and it does work with the M1 mac, but you need to plug it in direct via a USBc adaptor. Its ideal for watching DVDs at work

tbh for what i do those apple headphones are amazing. I use them for work for teams calls, and simple fairly cheap wired headphones for my iphone. So I can listen mindlessly to music at work for hours. Not having to worry about them falling out and getting lost, having to worry about batteries etc. I stocked piled so many from friends and family who had ZERO interest in keeping them. Havent had to buy a pair for so long despite losing some, or some getting broke as I use them haha.
