Amazing video. What a find for the man renovating his home! Unbelievable how the people carved out such a great underground city. What did they do with all the rock they removed? I wonder what kind of tools they used? How did people with mobility problems get around in this subterranean city? Thank you for sharing this video.

And all of those questions you ask speak to a highly organized and structured society, even the initial excavation of the city required an intricate support structure...

I would imagine people with mobility issues either were carried by a family member of left to die. (harsh I know but a reality in many societies..) From what I have read, the rock is rather soft. It is actually layers of volcanic ash that solidified over thousands of years, and relatively easy to carve with simple iron tools. What amazes me is how they managed to burrow out rooms, connective walkways and even huge chapels in such even designs.

That would be interesting to see in person. Hi from Alberta, Canada. I can just imagine someone saying. “Were you born in a cave?” Then someone replying. “Why yes I was.”

on my visit to Capadokiya, I wasn't able to visit the underground city but now that I am watching the narrow tunnels and how deep and dark it is, I feel I won't be able to visit it because I am claustrophobic. But it was interesting to watch the place in your video.

Actually one of the things that tourist guides inform to their groups is that if there is someone with claustrophobia or any respiratory illnesses not to go down, they advice them to just explore the first level and then go out again. To be honest many tunnels are way too narrow, even for me was a bit difficult, I’m only 1.60 mts and most of tunnels were a but changelling to walk through. But I’m glad at least you were able to see it through our video! 🥰

@@BeryIstanbulTips how far down is the first level and is it easy enough to get out of there back up to the top? I'm claustrophobic and after watching your video there is no way I could go the full distance, my heart is racing now watching it on the screen haha!

@@fistephenson4004 Same happened to me! It is a man-made marble but I can't visit it. Only by seeing the video I had tachycardia and the feeling of a tight chest!! 😬 It is unbelievable how far man can go!

Amazing find when chasing your runaway chickens in the basement haha!! They said that this underground city may be from 370 BC due to the ancient writings.

Derinkuyu, Turkey. It looks like my mice tunnels cartoon design, I seen before. Imagine people have to hide like mice from wars & attacks. We could comeback to this situations if war breakout ! The early Christians have to protect from persecution from Mongolians and later different years on from the Ottoman Muslims era ! Fascinating

Maybe the ground was already looking like swiss cheese and people just finished the job and shaped it to their needs. Floridas peninsula is an example of such a geological subterranean formation. All of the natural water in Florida comes from wells, eventually from these caverns. Unfortunately occasionally the surface over a cavern becomes unstable and we get sink holes. That limestone layer was created by millions of years of sea rise and sea lows...

It would be interesting to compare Derinkuyu with the vast network of tunnels in Viet Nam when it fought against the USA army that invaded their country in the 60´s

I'm Vietnamese, and I can say that the Củ Chi is not as big as this. This one is a big city with layers. Ours doesn't have layers or floor. Our tunnels and paths will be way more narrow for Vietnamese size 😅.

Could this be Noahs Ark. Where the animals were preserved? The surrounding volcanoes erupted and covered the mountains and lands in ash. God kept the animals safe in what is today called Derinkuyu - when he destroyed the Neanderthals and all flesh with the Earth - Genesis 6 ???
