The house used to be open to the public in the late Lord Fevershams time but his son closed it . To see the interiors try to find a film called “Diamond Skulls “ which was filmed there in 1987 or 88. I was an extra on it and spent a few days there!
Thanks so much, I’m really glad you enjoy them! I would absolutely love to do a video at Wollaton! This was built by one of my favourite architects. The problem is that I usually need permission to film and it can be notoriously difficult to get. If I visit Wollaton I will certainly endeavour to get permission to make a video!
My only unasked for criticism is the music chosen here. Honestly, why not music of the period. There is no copyright on classical music. The house is sublime, and looks well looked after. We has a house in the USA that was fashioned after this pile called Whitmarsh Hall. It had an English front, and a French style front. You’ll see what I mean. Many videos on it. The USA is know for wasting beauty. The interiors were designed by an English Firm named White Allom, who also re-decorated Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle in the great rooms. White Allom office was at 15 Hanover Square.
Thanks for your feedback David! This is actually quite an old video now; if I made it again it would be quite different. Real shame Whitmarsh Hall was destroyed, it looked to be a very beautiful home! Cheers
It's actually quite hidden. When in Helmsley you would hardly know the house existed unless you passed the moderately discreet entrance. Beautiful house, lovely town, and a gorgeous area. There's also a walled garden that used to be the fruit, vegetable, and flower garden for the house before becoming a market garden, and is now a restored garden project. Highly recommended !
Hi Daniel, thanks for your question! To be honest i'm not entirely sure as there is little public infomation about it. I would assume so. I cant say exactly how extensive the fire was, but I imagine it will have been more the interiors that were destroyed. I can't say for certain though!
The family name is Duncombe, the title is Lord Feversham. The present Lord F was disowned by his father due to the son’s bad behaviour, and the estate passed to his younger brother.
Nice video but why is it titled ""Inside" Duncombe Park" when it's really just the grounds outside. I was a bit disappointed. But at least you said in the beginning we can't go inside so I didn't expect anything more watching the video.
Fair point Gerry. I was meaning it was an inside look of the park, as opposed to the house. Really hoping them let me film inside the house though some day! Thanks for watching.
One of these days they'll get the hang of making films of these houses. Gardens, views, all very nice but the house itself, its structure, layout, design, decor - that's what's interesting and please, don't say inside the house unless you actually do go inside the house.
Nice video work! if only you added commentary about the history and architecture of the house. 5 minutes of b rolls doesn’t do your editing and page justice honestly.
