Thanks for watching! Just to be super clear, fundamentalist Mormons don't agree with the current LDS (Mormon) church and vice versa. Less than 0.5% are fundamentalist Mormons. Peter, I think you mean 0.5% or 0.005 if you're being consistent with what you said in the video. I really appreciate your approach of curiosity in bringing us exposure to different cultures!

A good journalist keeps their own ideas out of the interview. (I doubt if MSNBC would ever be invited to report on this group.) This is what actual unbiased journalism looks like. As in, the journalist reports and the reader/viewer takes it in and forms their own assessments, opinions, and resolutions.
This is why I stick to the nightly news. No talking heads and opinion journalism. ABC, CBS, or NBC nightly news. Just 30 minutes of actual news. I don't need Sean Hannity to tell me what to think.
No one does honest and unbiased the way Peter does. Another great video. Thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different Mormon sects. I love how the guy hugged Peter at the end. To me that says he was glad he could help educate non believers of the faith and happy with how the fundamentalists were represented here Bravo, Peter! 👏👏
@@elizabethwitt2621he is absolutely biased. He does not give exposure to the other side of any idea or situation he highlights in his videos. He makes a living by showcasing extremes without his own opinions getting involved but his channel is ABSOLUTELY biased, otherwise the next video would be about the hundreds of thousands of FORMER Mormons saying the exact opposite of what we’re seeing in this video.
Peter, please never lose your sense of wonder, your unbiased approach, your gentle kind ways! You are a spark of light in a world of dark, biased, dirty journalism. Thank you!!
The reason why Peter is so universally accepted is because he doesn't find the need to debate people. He simply wants to understand their perspective. There would be a lot more communication between different groups if people approached conversations this way rather than going in with the intention to undermine someone else's way of thinking.
Yes, maybe, but at some point, people must be held accountable for their beliefs, especially when sexism, child abuse and fraud are involved. I am thinking of all the welfare fraud committed by The Order group and other fundamentalist groups.
There are some good documentaries out there about Mormonism on RU-vid. One is, "Test of a prophet the Bible vs. Joseph Smith", "The Lost Book of Abraham", and the last is "DNA vs. Book of Mormon".
They aren’t being completely honest though. They are holding back a lot and probably fearful to say what they really want to. Especially when they know it’s going to be seen all over the world.
Beautiful documentaries, Peter! You let the people across the communities speak, you do not judge, you do not misinterpret, you look into all angles. Your work is genuine and breath of a fresh air. Love your channel!
Gotta love Peter. During the whole interview, I would be like "that ain't right". But he is so respectful and open minded that the people continue to share. That's a gift to be a good listener and ask the right questions.
What I also like he lets us the viewers draw our own conclusions and doesn’t close or insert his opinions or self analysis into the story he’s recording. We get to much of that in our news and education today trying to suppress one’s own conclusions. 👍
Yeah man, it’s super awesome how Peter’s so chill about letting us taken in the misinformation and analysis it to uneducate ourselves at our own pace. Like he never steps in with other videos showing a differing point of view, you know with like facts and stuff, that would muddy up the waters. I really respect him for that. 🤟🏻 It has really helped me draw my own conclusions by watching the last three videos, all with Mormon subjects, in Utah. I’m sure the one video he has coming up in Phoenix of the ex-Mormon will be sufficient contrast to refute to firehose of lies. 🫡 🫠 FYI - he did a piss poor job covering this topic , sorry to burst your 🫧
@@Sandra_Kidd well maybe you can make a video covering the information that he missed. Just because he's respectful doesn't mean the audience is going to decide to follow a cult. I’m LDS & this is the most I’ve ever heard about the fundamentalists. Very interesting. I appreciate your professional demeanor in every different community you find yourself in!
@hannah1052 I, too, am LDS. However, I have done a lot of searching online about different LDS topics and the early LDS spin-off sects and WHY they split off. Wikipedia has a great page on all (or many?) of the Latter-Day Saint sects, who started them, why, etc. Within Wikipedia, search "list of denominations in the Latter Day Saint movement". I. e., the Rigdonite sect, Emma Smith's family sect, the AUB group, the RLDS, and many, many more. It was mind-blowing to see how many denominations there were and still are.
@@wasatch0wrong. Remind me, which church did the Apostles that were ordained by Joseph and Brigham stay with after Brigham’s death? Did they just “poof” become apostate overnight when Brigham died, or where did it go wrong? Was John Taylor a false prophet? Or were the “prophets” that decided to start their own churches (much like the pastors in modern Evangelical Christianity) apostates?
They look like a nice bunch of people :) Very insightful and informative! Thank you Peter - and many thanks to the people who agreed to participate in this episode for us to watch later on.
I used to work for the Utah State Prison years ago. I sat next to Warren Jeff's cell on suicide watch several times after he tried to hang himself. He denounced himself as a prophet but later recanted. I remember his picture next to Osama Bin Laden's on the FBI's 10 most wanted list until they caught him in a souped-up escalade between St.George Utah and Las Vegas.
As a former flds and former believer of warren, I'd be really interested in listening to you. We were told that he was poisoned by the prison. We were never told that he tried to commit suicide.
Excellent coverage Peter. One thing I noticed with this group is that they are 'strongly' making sure that nobody confuses them with FLDS. Literally every single person repeated over and over that 'we have a choice'. It was so prevalent that it comes off as coaching. Excellent video.
I disagree. They are making it clear that this is our way as a people, and was never about force at all. If Westernkind returned to our rightful ways, you would totally get it. Modern law is nothing on what our people should be like at all.
In fact, they come across as shocked and scared of being ridiculed and judged about normal life, by the likes of people like you. Demonstrated in your comment.
There are some good documentaries out there about Mormonism on RU-vid. One is, "Test of a prophet the Bible vs. Joseph Smith", "The Lost Book of Abraham", and the last is "DNA vs. Book of Mormon".
Thank you Benjamin - I just appreciated listening to you so much. It is interesting how sometimes closed doors allow for both sanctity and isolation. Thank you Peter for always opening doors so graciously & with deep sensitivity and care. This illuminates all our lives.
Peter, I started watching you when you interviewed Titus. You have me hooked. I am Southern Appalachia man from middle Tennessee and I am enjoying learning about Mormons. To be honest, I knew nothing about them and judged them. I don't judge them now. Thank you. Keep up the good work. You truly practice tolerance. So many today practice tolerance of people who think like they do, but no tolerance for my culture. That is not tolerance.
Peter the content you get is WILD, and I love how many different perspectives you get without biases or skewed views. I think we can all agree you are one of the few true journalists around right now! Thank you for your work.
Been watching your videos since the ones you did in Saudi Arabia. You’ve opened up my eyes to parts of the world I never would have thought about. The way you approach situations and make everyone feel comfortable and open up to you is truly something I admire. Just wanted to show my appreciation as your videos are very insightful and your way of approaching people is inspiring to me and makes me want to try and be a better person within my own community. Thanks for everything you do Peter and god bless.
Peter is simply professional, kind and respectful. His approach and integrity simply shines. I have viewed every story. Each fascinate and educate me on and in the lifes of others. I really enjoy his valuable collection of great work in this INDUSTRY. Simply a Great platform of work Peter!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lost opportunity to give victims of fundamentalism a voice. Wish you would have interviewed one of the “lost boys”, who are the males kicked out of Mormon fundamentalist polygamist communities to allow for there to be enough women available for plural marriage. I worked with a lot of these guys in southern Utah and their stories are pretty heartbreaking. Important to shine a light on the dark side of a culture obsessed with artificially creating such a lopsided male to female ratio.
@@bluelivesmatter8502what do you mean by that? Look up Warren Jeffs. Is he the epitome of manliness? He became the prophet because his Dad was the prophet. Taking on over 30 wives. Then giving men who were subservient to him wives. If one sees who he kicked out, they were the men who stood up against him. Watch Keep Sweet. The more intelligent and masculine a guy was in that community, the less likely Jeffs would allow them a wife. Only the weak minded men got women.
I don't know how I found you, Peter, but when I did I had to binge because your work is so good! I look forward to every new series. Thank you for being so honest, open and respectful to everyone. ❤
Peter, as always, I appreciate your healthy curiosity and how you seek understanding with compassion and respectfulness. Our world needs more conversations, not fewer. We need more free speech and freedom of expression, not less of either. Thank you for your work!
Out of all the RU-vid channels, this one is the most informative I've ever seen. Thank you for taking the time to bridge the gap between different cultures and different ways of life.
I just love this channel. I think these people are completely out of their mind but it's so fascinating to get to hear their stories. Peter is so open and unbiased he can get these people to talk comfortably.
@deirdrekokora8680 less dangerous than the western hook up culture where families begin broken and out of wedlock. That is, if the babies aren't aborted.
Fascinating interview, very well done.👏🏼 I usually don’t like to listen to anything coming from Mormonism. You picked the perfect group to interview, I actually enjoyed it, and I found all of them very likable and relatable. Great interview! 👏🏼✌🏼🥰
SUCH A GOOD VIDEO! I used to be Mormon (as in LDS, Salt Lake City church, "Mother church", etc.) and this video was so eye opening! There is a huge narrative within the modern LDS church that convinces members that all other branches of the church are the Warren Jeffs type. Thank you for shedding light on other perspectives!
Most are very creepy and disturbing on the back end. My wife came from one of those cults, they even did interviews with BBC similar to this in the 90's. What you didn't see in the documentary was what makes those groups insanely disgusting.
Why do they all (fundamentalists) still practice *polygamy, though? Don't they know the men can go to prison for it? *co-habitation with more than one woman is a felony, in Utah (even if the women don't live in the same house!) So, Peter was "highlighting" a criminal practice!
@@ahashdahnagila6884they still practice it bc they believe it’s a commandment from God. Yes, they know it’s illegal but they believe that God’s law is higher than man’s law. It’s still illegal federally too but not as enforced as it would have been 100+ years ago
The amount of times that these people have said 'its our choice' or 'we aren't forced to' is kind of concerning. Other than this is very educational. Thank you Peter!
That's because majority over the years stipulate that they are a cult and brainwashed.. because of past events. Christians and catholics and Muslims and any other religious beliefs could all be classified as a cult.. get over it.. until people are being harmed who cares.. dual marriage isn't for everyone and they aren't the only religious group to do it
I think for those non-FLDS fundamentalist Mormons, it is mostly because they are defining themselves in relation to the stigmas people put on them, especially because of the FLDS. Seems strange, but I think they are just trying to fight the stigmas people oppose on them and define themselves as distinct from FLDS stuff.
It’s not actually. Most fundamental Mormons are always associated with the FLDS, the Kingston group or the Le Baron group so they want ppl that they open up with to understand that they are not the same. The centennial group (AUB) will stress that as well because everyone mistakenly lumps all mormon fundamentalists together.
This episode is my new favorite! There are so many interesting older RU-vid vids about versions of diff polygamous groups. I’ve never seen one about this particular group. I didn’t know they existed! Thanks Peter!!
This particular group is centered north of St George near the Utah Nevada boarder. It is also not the only one that is north west of St George. The FLDS are East of St George.
Good to see that your reputation of professionalism and active listening opens doors to new communities little by little, giving you more opportunities to show us new points of view. That long term progression of yours is really interesting to follow.
This maybe not for me and my lifestyle but I appreciate the information of other people’s choices and experiences. Peter you display professional journalism in an unbiased manner. Bravo !
Being LDS myself and growing up in the church my whole life, i've never really known anything about the F-LDS church and how they run things today since theyre completely seperate. This video was super interesting and cool to learn more about their beliefs. Thanks Peter
They don't talk about it because they don't want to explain why there are so many offshoots. It's not all polygamy many don't think Brigham Yong was next in line to be prophet.
I would argue big time that women are NOT more jealous than men when it comes to relationships. How many men stalk, harass and murder ex girlfriends/wives when they move on to another relationship. I’m not saying women don’t do the same, but to paint this broad brush saying women are more jealous in nature than men can be debatable.
Such a good point, also if men are less jealous, wouldnt the wives in this group (and the many other fundamentalist LDS) be able to have plural relationships with other men? No so something doesn't add up lol
I think they know men are leaders of a pack and therefore have multiple women kinda like in the animal kingdom. You have a male deer with multiple females etc and they see that in this.. one guy with multiple women and the women aren’t as jealous but yeah for sure the men would be
I absolutely loved the Vegas series, but this may be up there on one of my favorite videos of yours. Very well done, and you found some great folks to talk to, as usual.
This was super interesting. Thank you to those who allowed Peter to film. I've learned a lot. There were so many likeable characters in the bunch. I'd most definitely have a cup of tea sit down chat with these lovely people.
polygamy is the future. We will evolve faster if a man can reproduce with several different women, that is just how natural evolution works the more variety the better.
Thank you for this authentic, respectful and honest insight into this community! Very interesting!! Thank you Peter, and thanks to these kind people for sharing their day and their faith with us 🫶🫶
Peter is such a good man, I don’t have the ability to be so non judgmental and open to listening. He is truly on of the greatest content creators I’ve watched and I’m greatful for this content
I respect the fact that you are willing to learn about so many things and let people tell their stories! I do not agree with this practice or the Mormon religion in general but I always find your videos interesting!
Gotta admit - I wasn't that interested in watching your Appalachia / Mormon / Amish series. BUT I must admit - once I started watching, was really hooked. On Peter's great interview style & the openness of both Peter & the folks who appeared on camera. They were all pretty good spokespeople for their beliefs.
I'd like that. How we gonna have an "actual" discussion ? I have been replying to you so far through my Grand daughters Telgram. Apologies about being so difficult
Wilford woodruff is my 4th great grandfather. I come from his 4th wife. Make no mistake, he was not a hero. The manifesto was on paper only to appease the government to gain statehood. How do I know this? Well because his 4th wife had children after the manifesto. Some would also say that they were allowed to keep the wives they already had, but there are still documents to support polygamy post manifesto. It's just a lot of messiness and dishonesty. I am no longer LDS. I officially resigned my membership in favor of peace and true free will.
the manifresto and the federal govwrnment made a the pqct that any current wifes could stay ane have more kids hence the 4th wife with more kids you mentioned. howevwr wilford and others did not take more wives
the manifesto was to appease the government and get them to leave them alone and be able to be woth the families thwy already had...not abandon the extra wives and not live with them anymore
I’m not Mormon or LDS etc but have lots of friends who are, I appreciate Peter’s level of respect and dignity that he shows. He’s a class act. Bless you.

Nailed it again Peter. I’m pretty much agnostic, but listening to all of the different religions you have covered I have become much more open and thoughtful. Thanks again Peter.
I love your series on all these different communities. It shows the differences, yes, but also the similarities that bind us altogether as humans. I hope that the more people are exposed to different beliefs the more they will feel connected if that makes sense.
Peter, I know you hear this all the time but, you're just wonderful. Your sense of wonder and understanding is beyond fathomable. I totally respect you and all that you so. Thankfull for your channel, you and all that you bring us. ❤

Great interview! I appreciate the respectful unbiased approach, it’s amazing how much people will open up to you if you come in with the willingness to just try to understand them. I learned a lot, and appreciated hearing their perspectives!
All of this is very familiar to me. I have never been a Mormon, but my whole large family is/was. They all served missions around the world, and most of them went to LDS universities in Utah. They all married good Mormon wives/husbands, and all had good large families of 5, 6, and 7 children. I did not. Why? Because when this religion came into all of our lives, I had just finished reading through the Bible, and I had real concerns that it deviated from Christian Bible teachings. So after carefully reading through their most important books, I determined that my family had been lead into a cult. For anybody who is open to truth, that is very easy to prove. For example in the Bible many coins are named and mentioned. Today if you go to Israel and dig a basement, you are likely to find one of these coins from thousands of years ago. At the same time, in the Book of Mormon many coins are named and mentioned. Today if you go anywhere in the Americas, you will never find one of these coins mentioned in their "most perfect book" the Book of Mormon. They have serious problems, and many of them are leaving, including many in my family.
I am Mormon, but even I was surprised to learn there are multiple polygamous sects that exist today. I knew of the FLDS (Fundamentalist Mormons) -- the Warren Jeffs "version" -- but I knew of nothing else. It's fascinating to listen to these people talk about our shared history. Until this video, I had assumed that for the men, it was a "multiple sex partner thing", however, I did not sense that from the men interviewed here. Just as interesting were the women's perspectives on polygamy. I was surprised at the "tenderness" and kindness with which they spoke of polygamy. I did not sense they were being oppressed, but instead, polygamy was a natural part of their lives, even desirable. One additional observation: I like that the women were not wearing "prarie dresses", but instead wore "normal", contemporary clothing and hairstyles. They drive vehicles and, I assume, use cell phones and computers. In other words, they are not living in some isolated environment, but are actively deciding who they are and how they want to live. I guess the truth is that if the women are happy, loved, and feel they belong, they have a supportive community, have a safe place to raise their children, enjoy a happy marriage, and get along (reasonably) with the sister-wives, then whatever they're doing is working.
I am a lifetime member of the church of Jesus Christ of LDS and I even live in the city these people live in and I had NO idea they existed or call themselves Mormon. I’ve laughed at so many people asking if I had sister wives. I thought it was a joke since most people know Mormons don’t practice polygamy anymore. But now I know that there are sects that do so I guess I’ll say “polygamy free LDS!” Lol 😂
Do we think the husband ever bends the rules and is with both wives at the same time? Or is he just moving from room to room on Fri night? Seems like a churchy way to ok having your cake and eating it too for these guys!
I have been a member of the mainstream Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints my whole life (32 years old) and have always lived in Utah. I can honestly tell you that this is the first I have ever heard about the Righteous Branch.
@@benzun9600there’s 100 of them, not exactly noteworthy all things considered. This group is insignificant compared to the 10,000 member FLDS Jeff’s cult.
In Tibet, there are polyandry families with multiple husbands, which can be practiced as an ethnic minority cultural tradition in China but not encouraged. So the world is so large and interesting.
In the US people often see things as cool and acceptable if it's exotic like from another country or culture. But if the same practice exists here it's considered horrible, a cult, and sinful.

Wow... you got in with the Peterson group??? 🤯 Keep in mind, folks... this really is a 'branch' ... one of the many tiny off shoots. Not even regular LDS people have heard of this group. It's only a couple of hundred people. BTW.... Benjamin is an attorney. He's actually a super intelligent man. I know of him through the legal field - because we are both in the probate and estate planning fields. I'm not sure I totally agree with his fundamental views, but there's no denying that he's is a very well read and educated man. He's the lawyer for the Goldback company. Benjamin is pretty well known in the Fundamental world. He converted after being mainstream LDS. There's a podcast that he's done about it. The Peterson Group is very unique... all good people with some kinda quirky ideas.
I am so stunned by this. I am a member of the SL mainstream and had lived in Mormondom (UT, NV n ID) for many years but this is the first time to listen to the polygs. Thanks to Peter for such an excellent and rare video.
As someone who grew up LDS but no longer is. It's really interesting to see their perspective on things. Thank you for this video, it really does grow my respect and understanding of their beliefs.
These people are not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You can refer to Peter’s pinned comment. These people are fundamentalists who have formed their own version of their own religion.

Hello friend. I've been returning to your channel impressed with well cultured content. I'm fifty something and have spent several years in rehab but the biggest thing I've learned in that time was how to understand people. People that I was taught were wrong or I should disregard as unethical. This was not easy and am still working through it but I got to commend you for your unbiased approach. Subscribed. Keep up the good work son.
This is a great video like all your videos are, Peter. You're doing some really great work here. Man, that Benjamin guy is super articulate! I'm mainstream LDS, and I wish we had more people as articulate as him to defend our viewpoint.
Benjamin is the man! Thank you for showing what your group is all about in such an eloquent way. I love that you guys stay true to the original beliefs of the Mormon faith, its honorable and I respect that. What stood out the most is they don't JUDGE or talk bad about others or think of themselves better than other Mormons or non believers. VERY COOL!
This was so great. I so enjoy learning about the different ways we all choose to live and believe. The older gentleman toward the end - when they're in the Indian restaurant - dark blue/navy blue shirt. He reminds me so much of Woody Harrelson! Could be his father, wow!
I’m really curious about one of the first women in the interview in the car when she spoke about getting married at 16… her vibe changed and seemed emotional about it yet said how it was her choice.
Also the other woman who was expecting and married in a non-plural relationship. How she spoke and her demeanor showed to me that she would not want to have a plural relationship but due to their beliefs she had to reluctantly say that "if it was God's will", they would do it. Maybe they think that this is their choice, but it is because of their belief system that they grew up with, that they would make such decisions in the first place. They think it's natural, but I don't think it is. I think it's painful to share a spouse. Why else would people be so hurt by cheating that they would get divorces?
I lived in Saint George at the time of the Warren Jeff’s trial. It was such a circus I’d never seen the city that over run with media. I was a student at the time.
Wow. Of all your videos Peter, THIS was the one that has surprised me the most!. I think that you have indeed stumbled (fortuitously) upon a very unique expression of Christianity in this group. A very articulate bunch of people, who are both very grounded and also very connected to higher questions and answers.
The young pregnant girl didn't sound like she'd be too happy to share her husband with another women. The husband on the other hand would just love it!!! Freaking suck!!
