Motocross Action takes a deep dive into Jared Lesher's Yamaha YZ250 Two-Stroke. Yep, that's right, a two-stroke competing against the fastest 450s on the planet. But Jared and his mechanic Michael Shaw have a couple of tricks up their sleeves in order to stay competitive with the Premier class. Covered in titanium and carbon, very little of the bike still resembles it's stock counterpart as Jared's race steed is covered head-to-toe with upgrades. So take a closer look at this fine motorcycle and even get a sound sample for yourself.

@@alexpanneton2215 Hard to say with sponsors helping out a bunch, and a lot of R&D work done on the motors to get it right. Also we lease our suspension from Enzo, so that helps

I fn love it. In Australia we got the European YZ's which were white and red. Beautiful. I think they were and are the best looking bikes and colour scheme in the world. A crisp clean colour scheme always

Yep. Feld fails to realize how social media has allowed the Privateer and mid pack guys to be underdog hero's. I screamed for Lesher. Screamed for Moranz. It's so fun rooting for the Underdogs on their journeys and adventures in the sport. It's no longer a 1 champ sport. Add a 2 stroke class and the fans will be jumping out of their seats for a whole new crop of winners and contenders, bringing greater marketing value to the sport.

The mentioned STIC Keihin carb meter block insert is no joke. While providing big gains to the low to mid, it also adds peak hp and over-rev. 30 minute max install time. BTW, both jets go up 2(pilot) and 5(main) steps. So he's not kidding when he says it helps a lot. It creates a rapid cooled vapor delivery. When a head requires 98 octane on a 125 for example, premium pump gas can be used. My old KTM 200SX engine is bone stock and I went from a 100/90 to a 110/80. No drop in lugging or power delivery. That's equal to 2.75 teeth down on the rear sprocket! It's like going 25cc big-bore, but it revs much quicker and farther.

@@Shaw413 But how much gains power wise? The website is a bit fishy, claiming it would give you 2-3-4 + HP. That would be more than a pipe and silencer combo. Basically are there some true estimates numbers? Derek should updates his S.T.I.C insert video put it to the test on a stock 250 two stroke, - to really show the benefits and show those who think it "bogus". Basically a back to back test with the stock cast OEM Keihin PWK. People are extremely curious, and if there is Something that can boost the two stroke engines, peoples eyes and ears opens up. If you can gain any advantage over the stock application it is a win win.

@@mikebrown41182 Actually from my experience, exhaust is very mild in comparison to the STIC. In fact, think of combining every bolt-on, same outcome. It can be tuned to a point where it's difficult to manage from off idle to lower mid-range. I understand that there is no way to imagine the performance potential. Imagine a 125 with an exceptionally broad powerband and low end that doesn't want to bog or stall out. No cylinder and case work will do that.

@@rebelyankee4458 if u think that a 250t would beat the 250f around the sx track you are crazy. The displacement rule was ok back in 2000 but not now the 250f lap times are almost identical to the 450s.

Incredible detail throughout this awesome bike !! Seeing you (and every other 250-smoker mounted guy) getting pulled off the gate makes me think that the 300cc displacement would be about right to make the fight more fair. Keep up the great work, guys !

Sick work guys, that bike looks amazing, to the parts the complete build is what a bike should be today, 2 stroke for life…Make MX great again, 2stroke all the way.. Prob already know it but in the corners line option and carrying speed in and out is where that 250 should excel over a 4t esp the 450, good luck hope to see you in the main soon, where it and you belong, crush the enemy and drive them 450 into the ground, real men ride 2 strokes. 🤘

@@surfingawaveoflife Contrair professor, the ugliest sound is blowing up the engine, plus, maxing out rpms in jumps can save your life, literally, and not at the expense of a blown motor. I prefer the two stroke in a dirt bike, for multiple reasons, but the sound is not one of them.

@@dirtjump132 I think it was a 325 in the monster cup (non AMA). I don't think AMA allows for anything over 265 (2 stroke) unless it's open class.

I know the 250 two-strokes run in the 450 class and my question is can you run a larger motor, or is 250cc max? It seems like if you could get just a few more cc's displacement you could run to the first turn with the four-strokes.

For two strokes in the 450 class the displacement is 250cc nothing above that is allowed. The major differences is still the torque. In the right circumstances he would be able to pull a holeshot, its not impossible but it is hard to pull against full Factory 450s today. But mind you that the 450f of the pro’s are usually detuned so he is not night and days of in peak HP, but again the low end torque. But this bike is fast, no one should believe something else. But sure if the AMA and FIM were fair with the rules they should have made the ratio more fair. But the "missmatch" is not like the 125cc and 250f, those are night and days different powerwise

Rear brake pedal safetywire. Prevents twigs being caught between the engine and the foot brake lever and the foot brake lever being bent or blocked.

I'm 65 and grew up on the same tracks as Chase. I just started paying attention to MX again a couple years ago. If the 4 strokes are eco correct, how can they still have 2 stroke only events? Anybody?

If you’re talking about emissions ratings the manufacturers have to meet that’s just for production bikes. The Japanese manufacturers didn’t think they would be able to meet Europe’s new standards with their 2strokes so they focused on 4stroke r&d. Now with better carbs and fuel injection Ktm and Yamaha have met the standards. I don’t think there are any emissions rules for racing on private tracks

I would have mounded the hour meter to the engine somehow so that if you do pull out the engine, you take the hour meter with it.

We have 3 hour meters that are labeled for each of our motors, so when one gets swapped, the hour meter goes with it.

They need to put too risers on the 2 strokes and they will still win easily. This video makes it sound like 2 strokes can’t win and motocross is about two strokes. This just has to do with the riders because the bikes are more than capable of winning. They did in the past and could easily do it now

@@barkeep25 We have had good success with them. Derek Harris at HP Race development sells them and has a bunch of great videos about it on his page. I agree their page looks a little weird, but we like how it performs, and when you swap from a stock carb to one with a stic, you instantly notice the sound difference, its wild.

@@Shaw413 Now i saw Derek Hallman ride with one aswells he is an amateu but he goes pretty fast. Thus to remind people he used a stocks ktm sx 150, however he added the entire the stic carb wich is not just the block, and he said something similar about the torque, he was amazed how much longer he could pull in higher gears. Now people should realise you guys have a fully modified bike so everything is setup for application you guys have. But it is interesting that someone on such high level do find the power charactheristics it adds. but it seems a little bit fiddly to figure out the jetting (for some). But evidently it got potential, and HPD seems to trust in the product. I might give it a go.
