I agree , I assumed I had a hang of the market at first, I gained $50k one year and I was super elated, not until I stumbled upon a portfolio-advisr whose been guiding me since the market's been sham after the pandemic, to my utmost surprise I nettd a whooping $280K during this dip, that made it clear there's more to the market that we avg joes don't know

Yes, mostly the Syrians and the Syrian army destroyed much of Lebanon and now the Syrian emigrants are destroying its nature and people. However it's still beautiful

80%+ of the country has been pushed into poverty. The issues in Lebanon have been going on for a very long time and are largely due to the fact that the country is made up of 3 separate groups. There was an agreement that certain groups always get certain positions in the government and there is long standing corruption and no repercussions if the jobs are not done well. There is a constant fight to obtain the most power and influence in the country and the groups are backed by larger entities like Iran for example. The focus has not been what is best for the country in general. There was some very poor decisions which lead to the banking sector essentially collapsing but was predictable. The IMF refuses to help Lebanon until they put in more effective government which they have not been able to do for years even though most of the country is struggling to afford basics and the country is not even able to provide electricity all day. Having a generator has been very common for most middle class and wealthy homes and business as well as other essential services like hospitals for at least a decade but fuel used to be available and affordable which is no longer the case. Lebanon imports fuel as well as most items and it is not uncommon to have to wait all day to get fuel from a gas station if it is available. If you have money there are black market ways to get fuel although you will pay more. Deliveries of fuel are inconsistent because receiving payment for the deliveries can be difficult or significantly delayed. Most of the country only gets a few hours of electricity a day at the moment. There has always been a wealthy group that is paid in foreign currency that has always done better than those who made Liras. There is also a large number of expats who have savings from abroad or those who depend on remittances to sustain their quality of life in Lebanon. Many have gone back to other countries with the current economic crisis. Most professionals are trying to leave Lebanon and there is a huge brain drain creating huge problems for places like hospitals. Professionals leaving will just lead to more pain financially for the country. If your savings were not in Lebanese banks you got lucky and did not lose all your savings. Technically those who have savings in Lebanese banks haven’t lost their savings on paper but they are only able to access a small amount per month so you don’t have access to your savings. The banks and the government don’t have the assets to cover all the deposits that are in the bank on paper so in reality most will never see the savings they deposited in the bank. There is also a very large number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon that have put a strain on resources but also have been incorrectly blamed for a large portion of the economic issues. Lebanon has started reporting some of the refugees back to Syria or have made it so intolerable to remain in Lebanon that some are risking returning to Syria. Unless there are significant changes the situation is only going to get worse. The political elite and wealthy don’t care and so unfortunately I expect this to get much worse. The only support being provided by other governments is done without allowing the Lebanese government to be involved or the money passing through government accounts. There are so many humanitarian issues going on in the world that most are only receiving a small proportion of the money needed to support the poor and displaced. Lebanon used to be a country where refugees or the poor came to settle (eg. Palestinians, Syrians,etc.) while now you are seeing Lebanese citizens taking boats to try to land in Europe, immigrating to other countries if you qualify, etc. This is a very simplified version of what is going on.
