Hi there. The Greenland Jacket does not have an adjustable bottom hem, not many of their winter jackets seem to feature bottom hem adjustment.

Hello. Great review! Could you please tell me how the warmth of this jacket compares with the Nuuk or Yupik?

Definitely not as warm, but a lot lighter. Harry

Is it significantly warmer than Greenland winter jacket? Thanks!
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 лет назад
There isn't much of a warmth difference, you won't notice between the two. The main difference is the weight, as one is down and one is pile fleece.
@TangoCharlieAlpha

If you have a bigger, barrel chest, is this a poor choice? Looks to fit a more slender frame. I'm like a 36" waist and a 50" chest.
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 года назад
It's not as long and slim as a few of Fjallraven's other pieces and features more of a regular fit, so theoretically you should be alright in one of the larger sizes. We'd probably recommend ordering two sizes and sending one back if you typically find jackets aren't large enough in the chest. Kind regards, Harry.

The Skogso Padded ended up not being warm enough for my liking although it is a very lovely coat. Is the Greenland Down warmer than the Skogso Padded?
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 лет назад
Hi Chris, yes the standard Greenland Down Jacket will definitely be warmer than the Skogso Padded. The Greenland Down Jacket features 300g of down, whereas the Skogso Padded as 145g of synthetic insulation which isn't as warm.

Hi Paul. How do you compare the warmth between the Greenland No. 1 Down and the Skogso Padded?
@chrisjohnphillips6352
@chrisjohnphillips6352 6 лет назад
Which do you prefer between this and the Skogso Padded? Which is warmer? I know this is down and the Skogso is G-loft.
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 лет назад
Both are extremely comparable in warmth, and in all honesty I wouldn't be able to choose between them easily! If I plan to be out in heavy rain, Skogso, if I'm purely basing it on aesthetics then I'd probably go for the Greenland No.1.
@chrisjohnphillips6352
@chrisjohnphillips6352 6 лет назад
Trekitt Mountain Sports If warmth is equal, how about the breathability of the G-Loft vs down? I think I'd prefer the slimmer fit of the Skogso if warmth and breathability were virtually equal.
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 лет назад
Again, they're both fairly comparable. There is less down, however down is naturally warmer, so the Greenland will be marginally lighter. Breathability wise, they're both going to be pretty much exactly the same and you can't go wrong with either.

The one in this video would do a brilliant job. It fits well, provides loads of warmth, is water and wind resistant and looks suitable during everyday life as well as countryside walking. Hello. Is it good for weather from -20 degree on celcius to -30 with moisture about 80%?
@trekitt
@trekitt 5 лет назад
It depends on which layers you have underneath, whether you're using it for an activity or just everyday use, how warm you are as a person, etc. Unfortunately it's impossible to provide an accurate temperature range for a jacket, however with just a medium weight baselayer while using it for everyday use, it most likely won't be warm enough. Kind regards, Harry.

Wonderful! Thank you. How would the standard Greenland Down compare to the No. 1?
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 лет назад
Standard Greenland has 300g of insulation, Greenland No.1 has 100g of higher quality down (but so much less of it) so it won't be as warm.

Trekitt Mountain Sports Good day Paul. I have a few down jackets and all of them have high quality down. I am interested in picking up an original Greenland Down. I see that they use 500 fill power down which is arguably on the verge of low quality down. Do you find the 500 fill down in the Greenland Down to be satisfactory? 300 grams of fill is pretty good but I've never had a jacket with 500 fill power so I'm not sure what to expect.
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 лет назад
Hi Chris, it's far lower than other alternatives and therefore won't be as warm as an equivalent jacket with the same amount of high quality down. That being said, we haven't had the standard Greenland Down Jacket before and can't tell you first hand how warm it will be. If you're using it simply for everyday use then 500 fill power will be absolutely fine. Regards, Harry.
@chrisjohnphillips6352
@chrisjohnphillips6352 6 лет назад
Trekitt Mountain Sports Thank you for your response Paul. Apparently Moosejaw and Backcountry are wrong when they say it's 500 fill power. The Fjallraven site says its 600 fill power (European rating, about 600-650 US), so it should be fine.

Hi Paul, I have this jacket but I keep running into one problem each time I wear it using the 3 layer system - the down gets wet from inside rather quickly. Wanted to ask you if you could help me understand what I'm doing wrong? My base layer is merino wool Icebreaker shirt, my mid layer is merino wool Devold Expedition shirt or Devold Thermo jacket and then I'm using the Greenland no.1 down on top. Probably the combination of merino wool and down is an overkill? I've run into this problem while cross country skying and on long treks. Thanks for advice.
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 лет назад
Hi Martin, the reason you're becoming saturated from the inside is because the Greenland No. 1 Jacket is causing you to overheat when combined with your other layers, increasing a build up of sweat internally. This jacket is brilliant when stationary, however as soon as you wear it during exercise it will be far too warm and lacks breathability. Our best tip is always to start your trek/cross country ski a little too cold, therefore as your body temperature warms you'll reach a comfortable temperature. Keep your Greenland No. 1 for when you stop for a rest or lunch, but possibly invest in something such as the Fjallraven High Coast Wind Jacket; this isn't insulated but is far better for activities such as trekking and ski touring as it'll allow your sweat to escape, whilst still providing a good level of wind and water resistancy. If you need any further information don't hesitate to ask. Kind regards. High Coast Wind Jacket: www.trekitt.co.uk/35108/products/fjallraven-mens-high-coast-wind-jacket-mountain-grey.aspx

I have been looking at the Yupik as it seems to be nice having more coverage with the longer cut and OK in wetter conditions with the membrane. It is big, heavy and somewhat bulky and is not G-1000. I am unsure about the durability of the Yupik’s outer fabric. Can you compare the two a bit? I will be in cold, damp or snowy weather in the Japanese Alps. Not for hiking or skiing as I will use a tech coat. Just day walks and cruising around town (on foot!).
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
The Yupik will be perfectly fine for your intended use, don’t worry about the fabric, it’s plenty strong enough.

Hi. Are you using this jacket as your No. 1 winter jacket or do you switch to another one if it gets colder? It's very lightweight so I am not sure if the jacket is warm enough.
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 года назад
It all depends on the activity. For everyday use the No.1 is warm enough for our UK winters, but if you were heading to higher altitudes during winter you'd need something more technically advanced and a little warmer. It also depends on which layers you're wearing underneath and how warm you are as a person generally. Kind regards, Harry.
@jonathanvollmer5187
@jonathanvollmer5187 4 года назад
Thank you Harry. I want to use it for German Winters which are comparable to the ones in the UK, I guess. So I suppose it‘s recommendable for this purpose.
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 года назад
@@jonathanvollmer5187 As long as it's just for everyday use, then I'm sure it'll be absolutely fine. There's always the option to add another layer underneath if it's well below freezing.
