Outstanding review. Nobody is producing videos of this quality apart from Trekitt, and particularly Paul.

I think Montane have got the sizing of this jacket spot on, i wear mine with a merino baselayer a fleece jacket and could even get another thin fleece jumper underneath it if seriously needed. The arms are spot on especially when reaching and climbing up a cragg with great all round articulation and shoulder movement. And this jacket easily transitions to casual hiking walking and everyday use also. Some people have said the jacket isn't that warm but when walking hiking etc the heat regulation is excellent as soon as you get going etc. So all in all a great all rounder of a jacket and I highly recommended it.

Been looking for a good all-round jacket for outdoor photography in the Scottish hills. Lots of standing around involved. I've looked at a number of possibilities but after watching this my mind is made up. I particularly like the number of pockets. So thanks Paul for a very informative video.

My go to jacket for the last 10 years, doesn't matter what the weather is doing you're good to go, hill walking, rainy dog walks or snow. Light, very comfortable, warm, soft and glides over undergarments. It's warm even when wet, I've never felt cold in this jacket. It has loads of useful pockets, washes well and is hardwearing with good wind proofing. Mine has just worn a very small hole on the peak of the hood after 10 years! I've just ordered a new one in black. Best jacket I've ever had! I just wish they came in a few more colours Montane!! You either have bright red, Narwall blue (boring!) Navy blue or black! What about some more subtle colours please!

Mine has just arrived from Trekitt (good price). Not had a chance to try it outside and now the weather has turned mild. Well pleased with the look and feel of it though. I was going to go onto the website post a review but you've covered it all here already :-) I'm a medium but based of the comments on the web I went for a large. Glad I did, fits well over a base and light fleece, but is not too bulky so also fits under outer coat if ever needed. My thing is photography and increasingly walking, I didn't get this for walking, more for putting on when I stop for photos (belaying I believe). It will with practice stuff into one of it's lower pockets forming a package a little larger that a 4 pint milk carton, which will fit in my photo back packs.

Thanks for the order Martin, I'm sure you and your Flux will share many photography adventures together! Harry

@@trekitt Not had much cause to use it until now. Following a visit to Trekitt (fleece & socks) I went up Hay Bluff. +1C in the car park, probably -2C on top, in the clouds with haw frost and blowing snow. Dispite sitting around on top for half an hour fiddling with the camera the cold never penatrated. I've also got an Icarus Gilet that'll fit underneath but I've yet to find the conditions that justify using both together. Love the two chest pockets, one for phone (satnav) and one for glasses, why don't all jackets have this.

i normally wear xl size. sometimes xxl. so i would say i m somewhere in between sizes. and heard that montane gear is on a slim tight side. would you recomend xxl for this jacket?
@trekitt
@trekitt Год назад
An XXL is probably a safer bet if you're using it as a layer to stick on over everything else to provide static warmth. Paul usually opts for a large, and although this is a large, it's a little snug.
@ipodgooroo
@ipodgooroo 2 года назад
As you go up in size with this, do the arms get wider/baggier? I only ask because I have an XXL (for the length) and the arms are very baggy and the fabric inside rarely feels warm to the touch with just a t-shirt on. Would an XL have closer fitting arms? Thanks
@trekitt
@trekitt 2 года назад
Yes ever so slightly, but not massively so. If there's excess space in the body of the jacket, though, it won't be able to insulate you properly. I'd pop to our shop to try a few different jackets on if you can. Harry
@ipodgooroo
@ipodgooroo 2 года назад
@@trekitt the body of mine keeps me warm, it's the arms, they tend to feel cold. My Icarus jacket is an XL and keeps me warmer, from what I can tell.

I wear Rab Electron in medium, also Montane Alpine pro gtx in medium, same for almost every other jacket or t -shirt. I'm 5ft 11"tall , 104 cm chest and 85cm waist Will medium be the right size on top of base + fleece or should I consider large ?
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
Paul wears a large in both the Electron and the Flux, so I would estimate a medium would fit fine in the Flux. We've got a good sizing chart on our website which may be of some use; just follow the link below, scroll down and click 'sizing information'. If you used this for climbing mountains (white mountains of New Hampshire winter) with steep elevation gain (anywhere from 500-1000ft per mile) with temperatures ranging from -20 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit do you think this would be warm enough? I would like to have excellent breathability. Ideally no more than two layers below. Wind up to 40-50 mph.
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 года назад
Hi, thanks for your question. It's a really hard one to answer as there are so many variables surrounding the "warmth" of a jacket. That's why brands don't put a rating on them like they do for sleeping bags. However, you have given some detail and I can assume that you are fit and healthy and that you'll be wearing a good, warm, base-layer underneath. The Flux will cope with those conditions provided you are moving and active. You'll need to carry additional layers for protection and safety. I would also recommend the newly revised Arcteryx Atom AR, it is more breathable than the Flux and just as warm. www.trekitt.co.uk/40254/premium/arcteryx-mens-atom-ar-hoody-cobalt-moon.aspx Thanks for watching. Paul.

hello mate.. another great review.. i dont have the knowledge on materials and fillings.. how well would this do being squashed down to save space or would it mess up the inside.. am ordering one thanks to your review and am debating new backpack sizes at the minute with all my gear ready for birthday trip to snowdonia in june.. thank you in advance
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
Hi Tony. The Flux can easily withstand repeated "squashings" and compression when being carried in a pack, just don't store it for long periods in a compressed state. Have a great birthday summit day! Paul.

I am a size Large chest wise but a bit chubbier around the middle, have a Montane Halogen Alpha Jacket which is snug around the waist to say the least (Lockdown!!!) but nice and warm as a layer. If considering purchasing the Flux jacket should I perhaps go for the XL rather than L. 5ft 10inches and around 13 Stone. The unfortunate thing about lockdown is that you cannot walk into a shop and try different sizes on! Thanks.
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
Hey David, if you follow the link below, scroll down and click 'sizing information', we have a good sizing chart where you'll be able to compare your measurements. Which size you opt for will also depend where you plan to use it in your layering system - i.e. a belay jacket will need to be a little larger to fit over your other layers. Montane don't actually state whether it is or not, however the insulation is completely synthetic (no feathers) and the outer fabric is made from recycled nylon, so it most likely is suitable for vegans.

Awesome review. Perfect done. I own 2 jackets, the montane prism and the montane flux. Thats all I need. Can you tell me wich loop is the correct one to use when hanging the jacket on a jacket holder? The elastic loop on the jackets inside in the neck or the strap on the outside of the jacket in the neck, the one that has montane writen on it? Best regards from Denmark

Hiya , can you advise me , I am trying to decide between these 2 jackets. I am moving to South Sweden in a couple weeks and looking for a all rounder jacket I can use in autum and winter. I know the flux must be much warmer, I am worried it will be too warm If I am being active. The prism is much lighter but I think if I layer with a couple fleeces and a hard shell, will it be warm enough for the cold parts of winter ? Thank you

An otherwise excellent jacket spoilt by internally captured hood drawcords. A pet hate - your hood needs adjusting - you unzip your jacket, adjust, zip up - still not right - you unzip your jacket, adjust, zip up, and so on. The awkwardness of that amply demonstrated here. Not Trekitt's fault, of course, it's Montane's, but the review is here on a public platform so there you go.
