You'd be forgiven for thinking the Nebula looks like a down jacket. It looks, feels and performs extremely similarly, however, the main difference is the Nebula features a fully synthetic insulation, making it a brilliant jacket for our typically wet and cold UK mountain conditions.

Both are great choices. Ben has a slight preference for the Superflux, whereas Paul is a fan of the Nebula Pro. The Nebula has a slightly more relaxed fit, but otherwise they're very similar jackets, means you can pick based on style preferences too. Unofficial Rule #1 - Look Good!

I'm currently looking into the Nebula and the Neutrino Jacket by Rab. I like that the Nebula is synthetic (for ethical reasons) but i don't know if it is just "enough" for what i need. I mostly would use as a hiking jacket in the alps. I dont do anything too extreme though, so i'm not sure with which of them to get with...
@trekitt
@trekitt 2 года назад
The Neutrino is quite a bit warmer but doesn't cope with damp conditions as well, so I guess it depends how warm you need to be and whether the insulation's wet weather performance matters to you. I'd probably lean more towards the Nebula for active use. Harry

A great video yet again. I am considering one of these, but i was wondering about how they are washed? Do they get washed as per normal sheet type insulated jackets, or do they need to be washed / dried in the same way as down? TIA
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
The Nebula Pro can be washed as you would wash any synthetic jacket. Please use a proper “detergent” such as Nikwax Tech Wash. if you need to replenish the DWR a spray on is best, such as Nikwax TX Direct. Wash on a gentle cycle no hotter then 40 degrees Celsius. The jacket can then be air dried. Thanks for watching. Paul.

How does this compare to the Atom AR? Thinking about getting one of these. The Nebula is considerably less expensive (I can get it for $185USD right now), but I think Arcteryx will have a 25% off Black Friday sale which will drop the Atom AR down to $225. Just looking for a highly insulated synthetic jacket that is comfortable/easy to wear and maintain without going to full winter jacket mode.

I’ve had mine for a little over a year but it doesn’t look like the one you’re reviewing! Checking the internal tag it says Nebula Pro Jacket follow by the No. Q10-25. On the outside by the left hand pocket it reads Cirrus and by the right hand pocket it reads Pertex Quantumpro. I've had a look at the pack sizes of this jacket and it is indeed a little bulky, is there another synthetic insulated jacket that is comparable in warmth that packs a little smaller that you can recommend?
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
Hi Anton. All synthetic jackets of similar warmth will have similar pack sizes due to the physical amount of insulation. The differences are going to be marginal at best, so if pack size and low weight are your priority I suggest you look at a down insulated jacket. If wet weather performance is you priority have a look at the Arcteryx Atom AR - www.trekitt.co.uk/facetresults.aspx?Term=Atom%20ar

Hi Paul, I recently bought this jacket on a different website and it says primaloft insulated instead of cirrus insulation, do you know anything about this?

It may well have Primaloft as Rab are slowly introducing branded insulation into their range for Spring/Summer and have already released some product. The performance is virtually identical to Cirrus and there would be no tangible difference between a Cirrus and a Primaloft filled jacket.

Axion and Axion Pro are warmer, Electron is about the same. However there are a huge number of variables that will affect how "warm" you feel in any particular jacket. I think this would work well for the Pacific Northwest of the US. How does Cirrus HL compare to PrimaLoft Gold that Patagonia uses? Thanks!
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
HI, I think it would work well too! Cirrus HL is a blown insulation that mimics natural down clusters, while Primaloft Gold is a sheet insulation. Blown insulation lofts better and warms up quicker, packs down smaller and is more breathable. Sheet insulation resists compression better, is more weather resistant and more stable. It really is a case of "horses-for-courses" depending on your needs and the environment the jacket will be used in. I hope that helps. Paul.

They're all quite different, so it depends how much warmth you need and which insulation type you'd prefer. The Senja is the warmest of the three and uses down, the Nebula sits in the middle and uses synthetic insulation and the Microlight is the lightest and uses down. We've got a good video about which insulation type to pick which should help narrow it down: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CE_XvzUdC5w.html

Hi, The Nebula Pro uses a synthetic filling whilst the Kinder Smock uses a natural down filling. Warmth wise they are very similar, and they have very similar face fabrics making them equally durable. The Nebula however performs significantly better in cold and wet conditions thanks to the Pertex Quantum Pro fabric and the synthetic filling. The fit of the Nebula is slimmer and this makes the filling more effective. The Kinder is a bit of a retro piece with a loose, baggy fit. It is super comfy and warm, but for serious outdoor use, especially in the UK, I'd recommend the Nebula. I hope that helps. Paul.

@@trekitt thank you. If I want to buy syntetic or down. which one is most durable for tearing?
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
@@semihguven454 Most synthetics will leak less if you rip the face fabric, but neither insulation type will necessarily resist tears.

Stuck between this and the montane gangstang for winter, which would you say is the warmer of the 2?
@trekitt
@trekitt 2 года назад
Nebula has 250g of insulation vs the Gangstang's 133g, so the Nebula will be the warmer of the two. The Gangstang will be superior in wet conditions, though. Harry

@@trekitt thank you, which would you guys recommend as a winter belaying jacket? Or just sitting at camp (stationary use)
@trekitt
@trekitt 2 года назад
Both will be fine, but the Gangstang is more like a traditional belay jacket. The Mountain Equipment Fitzroy is also a good option.

What would you say is the best winter coat for UK ?
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 года назад
There isn't one I'm afraid, it depends on how much warmth you need, which fits you best, which has the features you're after, etc. We've got a pretty good playlist which should help narrow it down; I'll pop a link below. Kind regards, Harry. ru-vid.com/group/PL08r2wWpJSjO_fOCilSZn7Kt6wbOUVFz9

@@trekitt I reckon this person means 1.85m tall, and 100kg weight. Therefore I think it’s quite likely the extra large sizing is correct for them.

Thanks for another great review. How warm would this be in comparison to rab down jackets? What would be its nearest down equivalent? Thanks.

The nearest down equivalent would be the Electron Pro. Kind regards, Harry.

Can you do a guide price on your reviews
@trekitt

Hey Lee, manufacturers change their prices between seasons, and we change our discounts weekly, so popping the price in the video may cause more issues than it's worth. For each video we do, there's always a link to the product on the website which will have the most up to date price. Harry

Hi, I reckon that it would fit into a medium exped fold dry bag which is 35x19x14,cm or 8 litres.

when the jacket is stuffed into the included back it has a diameter of 16cm and a height of 24cm, so a total volume of around 4,8 litres
