Toy Guru talks about his personal top ten figures who never made it into the MOTUC line. Secrets of how toys are made revealed! He-Man and She-Ra toy line.
Ahh, that Skelecon! I would have loved to have at least 2 or 3 to flank Skeletor's side. And that Tug O'War that had "Blackstar Features" written on that concept pic definitely would have warranted a spot in my collection. Thanks for sharing and glad I subscribed!
I am still holding on to hope that this is just a hiatus and Mattel comes back with Lady Slither Illumina and Tug O’war I want them all! That said I would buy any new figs as long as they are in the classics style and not the filmation style
I can only hope with how great the Origins line are selling they go back into making new Classics figures. It happened with Star Wars Vintage collection. It was over for some time and it came back again selling better than ever!
As much as I would have loved any of these, I'm still in awe of how many characters we did get. It's not hyperbole to say that it was beyond my wildest dreams to get so many characters in toy form.
I would have loved to have gotten the rest of NA, especially the Space Mutants. Those are the biggest personal holes that i feel when I look at my collection. Also Scott, out of curiosity towards the end you said that you would have liked to have done keldor before he was Skeletor, but we ended up getting a Keldor figure. How would the one you mentioned ended up being different?
What I should have clarified is an "outcast" Keldor with an alt Keldor with Skeletor's hood up to use on the existing Keldor body. (as seen in issue 4)
Every single one of those characters are so cool I would of love to have them in figure I hope classics come back again all of you guys in Mattel back in the day did an amazing job
Love hearing about all these characters. Hope to see more videos talking about the more obscure. :) On a side note: Today I realized that Master's of the Universe is basically like if Conan the Barbarian and Flash Gordon had a kid..... Explains why I liked the line.
Skeleteen and Captain Randor are the two that I would’ve wanted the most, and for the same reason; having them provides balance, Skeleteen balances out Dare and Captain Randor balances out Keldor. Great video!
That Aremesh custom using a RoboCop body is pretty neat. :P I had the Ladybird books as a kid and always found those Skelcons creepy and cool. Would have been a nice army buidling in a seperate or double packs as you say. in my Mega Construx collection I currently use a couple of spare Skeletors with the goat skull of their havoc staff in place of their actual heads to fill in as Skelcons til Mega gets to making real ones (I hope they do, it would be a cheap and easy reuse of parts only needing a new head and fans like me would buy multiples). This is a cool list. :)
I would have loved a Dragoon figure from the filmation cartoon. It probably would have needed some tooling but it would have been awesome. Skelatine looks awesome, great video
I really wanted Skeleteen, especially since we got Dare. It feels unbalanced as it is now. I also wanted the rest of New Adventures. And I think I mentioned it in another video, but I think I was one of the biggest Bandwidth fans on He-Man.Org. I would have really liked to have him (and pretty much any of the other new mini-comic characters as well.)
Oh man!! I would have loved Tug-O-War! The frustrating thing is that he could have totally been made with existing molds. Arrrggghhh!!! Please do another video about other characters who didn't make it in!
GREAT list! I agree on all points, though Aramesh is a low priority. I always am wanted An Odiphus! Oh, and Catra’s panther form. And Spirit! I never knew why Swifty couldn’t be easily turned to Spirit.
There's so many characters that I still wanted. I could have easily purchased another 200 unique character before calling it a day. But I definitely wished we could have gotten the rest of New Adventures, Great Black Wizard, Lady Slither, Skeleteen, Scrollos, Songster, Ileena, Dream Mistress, King Hiss' Slave Girl, Twiggets and Widgets.
Spector Creative I’m really surprised that once you start bringing 200x characters into the Classic line like Count Marzo, Evil Seed, & Callix. That you didn’t think to doing a 2 figure convention exclusive like the Comet Warriors of Tuvaar & Baddar before they got merged into Two-Bad. Bummer😕🤷♂️
My personal number 1 is, and always has been Melaktha. . I have always wished for more non-warrior characters to get made as figures. But alas... Thank you for these videos. I really look forward to seeing them!
Yes! And his kid assistant, Stanlan, is a rather unique character, too, since he got telepathically communicated with by the Sorceress through He-Man's sword in the House of Shokoti! (And had an additional episode where he was a major character, too!) A two-pack of Melaktha and Stanlan would have been great!
Celice was one I wanted to see; she could've been packed with that monster she had to sing to sleep. Stratos's wife, Delora, could've been packed with Mulkram; minicomic/human Delora could've come with Haramesh... Ilumina could've been packed with the cat, and it could've become a whole subset of characters packed with beasts and monsters... Truth be told, MOTU is one of those toylines which will always seem incomplete, because there are always plenty of great characters out there in its surrounding mythos that rarely, if ever, become toys. I'm just thankful for the ones that have. 😊
Its crazy how we never got Miro which was a rather simple design, especially since Marzo (his nemesis) came rather early on. And given the idea of a Prince Keldor/Randor two-pack and from a narrative perspective a Miro would further complemented things.
The thing about the characters you mentioned that made it to a list is that they were up against some other heavily(some more than others) requested/demanded characters.
Lady Slither would've been amazing :) When the original line was around, when I was a kid, I came up with so many Snakemen & Snakewomen, I wish I could remember them now :)
The concept art for "Gladiator" and the "Black Wizard" were always cool. The biggest shame to army building was the whole licensing issue with the 87 movie. As generic as Skeletor's black stormtroopers were, they would have been the ultimate army builder. (Besides the Horde Troopers)
I like the concept here, but I was hoping for more details on why these characters weren't made! Like, what were the business factors that contributed? I assume all these characters were considered and then ruled out. Actually, I'd love a video about pegwarmers! The figures that got into the line and why, but flopped at retail.
I always felt that Dwarves and Goblins were missing from the toyline in MOTUC. Seeing as they are such major elements of fantasy and were featured in various media during the Masters creation, was there any plans to do General Tataran or the Widdgets ? I still think they would have been so cool!
Wasn't there a character called Michael Pisces mentioned in the comics? I remember because it was a play on the name Michael Fish, who was a famous weatherman in the UK.
So would've loved to see all those choices as well as all the new Heroic Warriors that appeared in one of the Mini comics. I absolutely loved their design. I definitely would've loved that Prince Keldor and Randor 2 pack I absolutely loved those designs. I personally took an extra Keldor head and place him on an extra Enternian Palace guard as my fill in got a Heroic Keldor
I think every one of those you listed were on my personal Wish List, except for Aramesh. Heck, I had enough on that list to keep MOTUC going for another eight years at peak Full Sub + Mini-Sub levels. The ones I really wanted the most, though, were Dragoon, Kothos, Melaktha, Hunga, and General Tataran.
Yeah, I know I am in the minority those first few mini comics are overlooked by a lot of fans. You did a great job combining mini comics with filmation to get a cohesive story. Thanks for all your hard work
Question: So the new Masters Origins Panthor isn't fuzzy like the original one was, it's just painted plastic like Battle Cat. Any idea how I can make it properly flocked? What was used on the original release?
I would have bought every single one of these figures if produced. I’m not an expert in MOTU lore but even just these few show the breadth of the concept - silly, serious, sci-fi, fantasy... it all has a place in MOTU. Would have really loved a Lady Slither - King Hsss is the only faction leader without a prominent female team member (He-Man/Teela or the Sorceress, Skeletor/Evil-Lyn, Hordak/Shadow Weaver)
I know this is something that only Super 7 could have done, but I wanted Meg Foster Evil-Lyn so badly. We were so close, I'm sure she would have been in CC Wave 4 had they gotten that far.
I would have dearly loved Melcatha, Negator and his Nerbs, the giants from 200x, and, honestly, a few "slime monster" based on anyone slimed in the various media (Beast Man, Spikor, Buzz-Off, etc). Would have also liked a normal Teela head with Goddess (as she was also in the slime pit in one continuity, and green teela would have done it). Beyond that, the lack of smaller characters like the Widgets, the Twiggets, the Manchines bugs me to no end. I wish they'd been included somehow.
There are a load I'd have loved to have seen, a top 10 of my picks, trying not to pick the same as you, could be 1 Prince Dare 2 Starburst She-Ra 3 Kay-La 4 Battle Bird 5 Black Armoured Ram Man (son of Ram Man) 6 Kayo/Tartarus 7 Sagitar 8 Master Sebrian 9 Samurai He-Man vs Samurai Skeletor 10 Battle Blade Skeletor
Was the classic lines successful? I thought it was and I supported it when I could with my hourly wage at game stop at the time. I HOPE WITH Origins their is a revival some day. I thought Classics was amazing and you did a great job.
Do you have or can you recommend any videos that actually show the toy manufacturing process (ideally from internal concept pitch to store planagram/order negotiations to factory selection to prototype to tooling to early samples to production)? How does a toy company decide which factories to work with? Some figures are made in multiple factories leading to variability in quality and content. Do toy companies have strategic agreements with factories to only do products for them? Do they have chosen factories that they go back to time and time again based on relationship and know quality or is it always a bidding war to determine the winner?
@@spectorcreative1872 Yeah, thanks for that. Good video! Was actually the one that led me to your channel originally. I was thinking of like a "How It's Made" video with product running through a factory from tooling creation to pellets loaded/heated/screwed to parts being injected/ejected/complex parts to paint/masks/instructions/decals to assembly to QC to packaging to loading onto the container - all in the actual factory making the parts.
Three questions 1. Why didn't Skeletor come packed with his bonethrone? 2. Were you involved with the collectionbook that contains all the mini comics? If yes, maby a video on how that project came to be? 3. Was Geldor from the comic The secret liquid of life, ever made into a classic lineup?
1: Cost and tooling expenses 2: No, I wasn't involved with the Coffee table book but they did reprint my work 3: Yes he was released as a figure, in fact he won a fan choice poll!
@@spectorcreative1872 I love that book. Enjoy it alot more now as adult. Lots of the coverarts should have been made as wallposters. What prints are yours? Wish I had got him. Geldor was a really interesting guy. Too bad he was eaten by a tree
I just thought up of a new figure to solve a small problem. How do you display all the variant heads of your figures? You call for Hed-Lock, the Evil Hord Headhunter Robot. Hed-Lock is a wide boy with a large transparent dome to protect the eight still alive heads he has captured for Hordack. He also has eight eight "Body Control Units" he can place upon the bodies of the heads he captured for the Horde. Can He-Man and She-Ra keep their heads after a confrontation with this noggin thief?
@@spectorcreative1872 I'm shocked that you like all of my ideas. So far I didn't create a idea you dislike. As for Matell, the company probably doesn't for legal reasons do anything with these ideas. And I can't blame them. At least I have an outlet for them. I can still imagine the comershel for it. "Hed-Lock! Hed-Lock!"
Lady slither is my favorite on the list... I just cant get behind skeleteen though, something about 2 kids continuing on seems goofy to me it's too symmetrical for me I think.
I always felt shoe horning in all these random characters that didn't have figures into the new mini comics was a mistake. It would have been better to develop the personalities of characters we were getting toys of. Instead pages of the comic would be wasted on just showing a bunch of characters with their names labelled next to them who then don't really do anything or further the story.
Masters Of The Universe Classics: Missing In Action Series (2021) Propose this concept to Mattel Creations. Aramesh looks similar to one of the scientists from Inhumanoids and sort of similar to the Centurions.
Man what I’d give for that 2 pk prince Randor n Keldor! The motuc line ended too too soon. We need to find a way to revive this line. Not looking forward to the short n squatted looking 5” origin line
Never got an actual 200X Evil Lyn despite you admitting you had the budget. Just the cheap repaint. Never got Dragoon. Instead the 4H just ripped him off with Draego Man. And yes, single carded Skelecons would have been nice.
Not a fan of the She-Ra-at-Arms idea or Bandwith but I'm on board with the rest of them. There are a lot of others we're still missing as well and it goes to show how bad of a decision it was for Mattel to not let Super7 continue making them. I really hope they come to their senses in the future and let Super7 revisit the line because Origins is garbage that I won't be supporting. The fact that they killed a line that the fans were enjoying just to try to force them to buy another product which wasn't being asked for made my decision pretty easy. The ironic part is that if Classics was still going and they released Origins at the same time, I probably would have supported the new line as well to contribute to the success of the overall property.
Unfortunately, at a certain point you're down to characters that only appeal to a niche segment of what was a niche audience to begin with. I would have been cool with Eternian Peasant #3, but realistically, there's probably not a big enough audience to support that.
Every line, even this massive one which ended up running longer than The Transformers (1984-1993) but not quite 12 years to beat G.I.Joe A Real American Hero (1982-1994), had some unmade main figures from other series. Masters Of The Universe Classics is a phenomenal toyline and one of the greatest since Masters Of The Universe (1982-1987). I don’t collect ARAH (A Real American Hero) by the way.
How many characters are actually missing from the toy line. Whenever, you hear people talk about MOTU Classics, they always say how complete it is and there were no more characters to be done, but then there is a video like this and we can see that there were more characters to be done. How many characters were there to actually complete the line. From this video I can count 10, and don't include Filmation because that's kind of something different and it ended up being its own thing. We might see these in Masterverse. Have you done the video about what happened after you left Mattel. It was really a benefit to Super7, because they were able to do Thundercats from that and now Ninja Turtles Ultimates.
I would have like to see New Adventures finished off instead of shoehorning new , original characters into the line. And now Mattel has put MOTUC on hiatus. #ThanksScott
My biggest wants have by far gotta be the runner ups for the create a character contest. I wanted those so bad and held off on making customs until just recently. I've made my own Major Header and am working on a Ra-Jar. It kills me that we'll probably never get all those figures. I guess I'll just have to cry myself to sleep every night from now until I pass on 😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔
I’m a little confused. You mentioned that Keldor (before becoming Skeletor) was a figure that wasn’t made when he was. I have him. He’s an awesome figure. Was there another version besides regular Keldor and the Keldor from the 2-pack that you wanted to tackle? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dWLonBqkUos.html
Yes, we did do standard Keldor. What I was hoping to get to was Keldor in a few different outfits and/or head combinations (hood up, hood down with floating skull (Skeletor), Great Wars armor, outcast &c...
Spector Creative That would’ve been awesome. I’ve always loved the character. I was in that same line at Comic-Con with you when the original version was released. 😊
This honestly feels like you were scrapping the bottom of the barrel at this time, looking into characters that appeared in only 1 panel of artwork or were in a very unrelated spin-off production. But I mean-- you put out everything that was in the entire Masters of the Universe line and the She-Ra line-- well, a lot of the Beasts were never done like Bionotops and Clawdeen. You even got movie-only characters, unreleased characters, and 200X only characters. And then I guess you were up to everything to the 1991 toys which is where it got cut off. It is amazing you got out as many as you did. Even looking things up on the Wiki, other than the remaining "He-Man" 1990s line, only character I can find that might have been a nice addition would be General Tataran.
@@spectorcreative1872 There was hardly an episode of the Filmation series that didn't introduce a 1-off villain or ally. Most toylines barely get out 8 to 10 unique figures. The fact that you got out every figure made between 1982 and 1990, over 100 unique figures, and even added a lot of characters that never got them is well beyond any sort of expectations. Sure, I guess its sad that the 1991 to 1994 toys didn't get made, but I don't recall the "New Adventures" being a particularly popular era. As for the Fimation characters-- there was hardly a single episode of the 200 or so episodes between Masters of the Universe and She-Ra that didn't introduce some one-off villain or ally. It would have been impossible to do them all. Actually, it is kind of funny how the He-Man and She-Ra cartoons produced after 2000 focused in on such comparatively small casts making the worlds seem comparatively small and empty, I guess the animation studios were given far more free reign to just make stuff up to fill out episodes. And yet even some of those Filmation one-offs still got made in the Classics line even though they were never produced in the original line. Really, it feels like you might have even overdone it.
