This was really a great Beatles Micro- Lesson Scott !! It was so interesting and seeing the inside of Aunt Mimi’s home where John lived was something I’d love to keep watching and listening to ( I will watch again)!! The house itself was actually a really beautiful home, I don’t know why I didn’t expect that . Loved that you told us so much info regarding the house inside and out . I loved the windows especially the 6 light window !! Menlove Ave, Mendips was really a beautiful place , I love the house is named Mendips. They always name the homes in England, also my cousins in Ireland do also , I love that it’s done , maybe we should too !! Yoko did a wonderful thing by having the house put with the National Trust , she is really a good woman and respected everything to do with John after he passed . People say bad things about her but I think she’s always looked out for John and the family. My last words are that Aunt Mimi was a great woman , she took care of John while going through her own sadness, she loved John , her sister, etc that’s a great lady !!! Loved this seeing so much of Mendips Scott, really enjoyed this .

Thanks, Gail. It would be really cool of Yoko or someone can now buy the house next door to provide some additional parking and maybe admin offices and help expand the experience of Lennon living at Mendips.

Scott, I love and admire your work, but... much of what was said about Julia was revisionist. John really only spent a very few months (if that) staying at Stuart Sutcliffe's flat in Gambier Terrace near the art college and a few months at a time in Hamburg starting in the summer of 1960; otherwise, he was at Mendips with Mimi and George and then just with Mimi after George died in 1955. As for Julia's grave, by the time it was possible for him to afford a gravestone, John was concerned that fans would seek out the gravesite, so he decided to leave it unmarked; McCartney was in the same situation. You might want to check the arrangements when John and Cynthia lived there with baby Julian in 1963. John's Uncle George was, by all accounts, a very affectionate and kind man - consider that he took on the responsibility of raising his wife's nephew without financial contribution from the family or real help from Julia (she really wasn't around despite living less than a mile away). George Smith is buried in the field of St. Peter's Church in Woolton - in direct view of where The Quarry Men played at the church fair on July 6, 1957 - where John and Paul were first introduced by Ivan Vaughn. In the graveyard is buried Eleanor Rigby and a Mr. McKenzie, too. Lastly, thank you for your good words about Mimi. Fans often overlook or dismiss that she parented John, mothered him, really - took care of him when he was sick, helped with homework, sent him to Sunday school, arranged for outings, celebrated holidays, sent him up to Scotland to spend some time in the summer with his cousins learning to fish, sail, shoot and just run a little wild up there. You're right - she does not get enough credit. It might help for people to know that he called Mimi at least once a week up until the day before he died. Thanks for posting this on Mendips!

Thanks for checking out the video and for sharing your great knowledge. I most certainly think Mimi deserves a lot of credit for her positive contributions. Like so many others in the show of The Beatles, she gets often lost in it all, and sometimes people only think negative things ("the guitar is all right as a hobby, John ..., etc), but her influence was clearly living and positive, and clearly John knew that better than anyone. And with videos like this, perhaps more people will, too. :)

This is excellent. Gee, that looks like a lot more house than I've ever lived in, and I'm pretty old. Did Yoko need a big tax write-off that year, or something? Still, it was thoughtful of her. Thanks Scott.

Yeah, it is a nice place. Real estate is always fascinating. If Mendips was in London it would probably be worth $5 million. :) I am not sure if Yoko can get a tax write-off for properties purchased outside the USA, but it is possible. Either way, it was great that she bought it since I don't think English heritage would have done so. So now it exists for everyone to enjoy. :)

Julia and Jackie weren’t his step sisters, they were born of the same womb- they were his sisters. Technically half sisters but certainly not step sisters. Excellent video as usual however.
